When an over-zealous regulator shows up at a farm dinner demanding that food be destroyed as hungry guests await, who do you call? Heres Lauras account written as a letter to her guests who had come to Quail Hollow Farm expecting a meal of foods harvested from local small family farms.
[split]
Susan deemed our food unfit for consumption and demanded that we call off the event because:
1. Some of the prepared food packages did not have labels on them. (The code actually allows for this if it is to be consumed within 72 hours.)
2. Some of the meat was not USDA certified. (Did I mention that this was a farm to fork meal?)
3. Some of the food that was prepared in advance was not up to temperature at the time of inspection. (It was being prepared to be brought to proper temperature for serving when the inspection occurred.)
4. Even the vegetables prepared in advance had to be thrown out because they were cut and were then considered a bio-hazard.
5. We did not have receipts for our food. (Reminder! This food came from farms not from the supermarket! I have talked with several chefs who have said that in all their years cooking they have never been asked for receipts.)

Nothing runs off an intruder like a Blunderbus.
This was a commercial event. The business was charging the guests $75 per person, $125 per couple, and extra for wine pairings.
This is private property and you are not welcome here, no one is here who does not want to be - and no one is being forced to eat anything they do not want to eat.
But that is a problem,.....
....when Fannie and Freddie OWN over 90% of home mortgages, the government basically OWNS the housing of this country.
That is the big reason that MERS has not been overturned and been allowed to “foreclose” with no real interest, no real proof, no legal paper trail of ownership.
We have been nationalized, while America watched American Idol.
And a pile of tar and feathers on the FReepers who lied about what has happened to the housing market.
I read the entire account. I’m a little unclear on a couple of things. Was this because they were charging money and so it’s not really a private dinner, or was it because the food was all organic. The woman writing the piece talked of a legal hotline for farm to customer operations. This is the first I’ve heard of a government vendetta against organic farming, I’m not saying it isn’t happening, just that I haven’t heard of it before.
Any Freepers in the know on this issue?
If this happened the way they all said it happened, I’m of course appalled, but I’m a little bit questioning the fact that the video doesn’t show the inspector actually giving that order, or standing there verifying that the bleach is being poured on the food.
I’m not calling all these people liars I’m just wondering why we didn’t see any of the actual bad behavior of the inspector, which I totally believe is a possible thing, that government a-holes are a-holes.

Not only that these individuals COMPLIED to get the BENEFIT of being an OFFICIAL CSA - through the USDA.
That means they chose the chains that bound them.
You cannot have it both ways. It’s like OWS complaining about the government and requesting more Regulation over (insert X).
If I had a private dinner party, it would be different. These were PAYING .GOV approved CSA Members.
She asked if it could be fed to the pigs. That’s where she went wrong. Turn the pigs out and head them to the tables. Let Ms. Susan try ordering a few several hundred pound pigs around.
So, how did the health dept. find out about this event? If it was advertized then that made it a public event. The guests paid for their meals which leads me to believe it was a public event.
“He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”
That is one fine document. Those Founders knew it would come to pass both in their time and in the future.
That is why they provided written instructions on how to handle this in the future.

It is no longer possible to give ANY Federal official the benefit of the doubt. The burden of proof is on them, and those who defend them.
jimnm,
thanks for that info on the admission charge; I didn’t see it in the posted story... where did you find it? I did a google search on the lady’s name and found a radio interview; was it there?
My take on it:
If its private, then the host had every right to complain and to tell the inspector to pound sand.
If the ‘guests’ are PAYING, then its NOT private, and the ‘host’ has a problem indeed.
It happened in Clark County. It includes Vegas, but also has its eastern border along the Colorado river and is quite fertile.

Not all of Nevada is desert like you imagine...:^)
Yes it is.
Gardener’s Ping!!
Even so, I'm conflicted. On the other hand, most of these good libs (and, let's face it, they probably are) would sue in a heartbeat if they got e-Coli from the organic broccoli. Then again, what business is it of the government?
This is where the safety regulations that everyone demands begin to conflict with the liberty everyone used to expect.
People die from e-coli. There’s no guarantee you’ll just get a cold seat and walk away safe.
Did you miss that?
We also must remember that we have ONLY the event organizer's description of what happened.
It said "REFUND" and that's the only item that came up suggesting it was a catered affair.
If somebody is after "organic farmers" this area which is a hotbed of USDA and FDA personnel (who work at headquarters in DC) they'd certainly have shut them down.
What I wonder is where's the ABC permit? Did they get one? Does Nevada require one?
They’re real handy.
