Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance a position that has been rejected by many Republicans, including several who likely will be running against him for the Republican presidential nomination.
Appearing on NBCs Meet the Press, Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.

They all have to destroy Newt now.
I remember when he said this and I was PO’ed.
Now that the field has played musical chairs and come back to Newt, I’m of the opinion that he is the smartest guy in the room . . . AND . . . he has the experience to beat Obama. Oh, and he is NOT Romney.
He is my current favorite.
PING!
Biggest mistake number 3 or is this 4?
I stopped reviewing your postings at about 25. Every single one was anti-Gingrich. I hope you’re getting paid by someone otherwise you have a one track mind. How about a pro whomever you’re for or an anti-Obama.
Haven't we been here before?
With the newt it’s a target rich environment.
And yet people here believe newt now...
It must work or else why would they make such a effort. I would say coordinated effort.
Sort of like reality tv. Its cheap to produce and mostly made up but it sells.
Newt is a super RINO now.
Will he wimp out like McCain in the final stretch?
And people still think Newt is a conservative. This tired old RINO is just more of the same left-wing crap.
Newt is exactly what we need now. Warts and all. He’s right 7200 votes, 15,000, + speeches, 24 books. It’s all out in the open. weigh his baggage honestly against his record of accomplishments and his strengths. I think his time is now.
The MSM continues it’s attempt to select a Republican candidate that Obozo can beat. They begin to see Romney’s probably not going to be the one so now we see their second choice. They’re both top shelf RINO’s. As far as I’m concerned Newt should stick to writing historical novels.
Newt needs to give us an in-depth explanation his vision of healthcare in America. In isolation I can’t evaluate the “must purchase” idea.
I’ve thought for a long time that universal healthcare ought to be done by expanding medicare. The machinery’s all in place. The issue of cost is always present no matter what scheme is used.
The problem with expanding medicare probably is that it’s too simple.
