Perry pledges to remake federal government (Detailed Proposal)

BETTENDORF, Iowa - An early copy of Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry's government reform speech shared with the Des Moines Register shows the Texas governor is planning to propose widespread changes for the federal government, including term limits on federal judges and Supreme Court justices, a part-time Congress, and laws criminalizing insider trading.

The governor first previewed the reforms in a speech Monday evening at an event by the Scott County Republican Party, where he said, "Washington doesn't need a new coat of paint, it needs a complete overhaul." Today, he will deliver the details of his plan in a speech at the Schebler Manufacturing facility.

Even if the President can only change the spending and salaries in his own Executive Branch, this plan is more than anyone else has come out with.

hocndoc, I'm not talking about the things that are possible, I'm talking about the more absurd aspects - namely that Perry can't bypass the Constitution or Congressional approval to get his judiciary or Congressional budget/salary changes. It's dumb as hell for him to throw those out there - either he's ignorant of the inner workings of the government, or he's counting on ignorant people to cheer this, not realizing that it involves issues out of his reach.

Just wait until somebody asks him in a debate how he's going to accomplish this without a Constitutional amendment or Congressional approval.

Yes.

Perry's position is that the founding fathers were absolutely WRONG when they decided U.S. judges could be appointed for life by politicians without the people's consent, and we MUST to amend the Constitution to change this.

However, he says the founding fathers were absolutely RIGHT when they decided U.S. Senators could be appointed for life by politicians without the people's consent, and we should have NEVER amended the Constitution to change that.

I haven't seen any platform this schizo since Cal Skinner ran for Illinois Governor in 2002 on the Libertarian Party ticket. His message was that voters should choose him over the other two candidates because of his "12 terms in office and two decades of experience in the state legislature" -- but all our problems in the state were caused by "professional state legislators" and his first act as Governor would be "term limit" them to "3 terms or less".

Nah, can't be. Perrybots explained to us that anyone who opposed Perry was a "purist" who would attack ANY candidate not named "Sarah Palin". Yet Cain's surge began even before Palin had announced she wasn't running.

Gov. Perry’s idea, for a part-time Congress, isn’t new. In 1996, when Lamar Alexander ran for President, he said that Congress should cut their own pay in half and be in session for half as long as usual. He said that, usually, when Congress is in session, longer, they pass unconstitutional laws that spend too much money. His slogan was “Cut their pay and send them home.”

Additionally, on 10/15/2011, or one month ago today, Herman Cain was averaging 23.2%. Today he is at 21.3% for a difference of 1.9%.

Herman Cain's polling average, one month ago today, was only 1.9% higher than it is now.

If you actually paid attention to what is going on in the world, a congressman (Democrat) was on Cavuto last week and said we should do away with the department of Commerce because everything it does is duplicated in other federal departments and this is one of the departments most rife with waste and abuse of taxpayer funds.

The Founding Fathers were WRONG about slavery and term limits for Presidents, too. But they were RIGHT about the Bill of Rights.

Perry also wants to repeal the 16th Amendment, BTW.

The sad thing is that I was hoping that Perry was the conservative we've been looking for. And I really - really - wanted to like and support him, though he did have to answer for his past 'mistakes'. Like endorsing uber liberal and infamous gun-grabber Rudy in 2008.

But from his 1st debate it was a flame out. A crash and burn of Hindenburg proportions. His fall makes Howard Dean's demise seem mild in comparison.

Perry's dumb as hell to try to bolster his losing candidacy by dangling the remake of the govt in front of voters - either Perry's ignorant of the inner workings of the government, or he's counting on ignorant people to cheer him on, not realizing that it involves issues out of his reach.

Somebody needs to ask Perry how he's going to accomplish this within the framework of the US Constitution.

Perry's contempt for voters, and for the US system of govt, is unrelenting. He operates like this in Texas, as well----dangling "secession anytime we want to" in front of trusting Texans that he knows can never happen.

POINT TO PONDER Perry could be getting a lot of help WRT to demolishing the US govt from Mexico and his Islamic pals who also share a contempt for our republic.
