STATE COLLEGE, Pa (Reuters) - The lawyer for the Penn State football coach charged with child sex abuse said in an interview on Monday the boy at the center of a 2002 incident detailed in the grand jury's report had been identified and said it never happened.
Jerry Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator for the Penn State Nittany Lions, was arrested more than a week ago on charges he sexually abused eight young boys over a 15-year period.
Speaking to sportscaster Bob Costas, Joe Amendola, who represents Sandusky, said "we anticipate we're going to have at least several of those kids come forward and say, 'This never happened.'"
Sandusky, in a telephone interview with Costas that aired at the same time, acknowledged he had horsed around and showered with children involved in the Second Mile charity he founded.
But he denied he was a pedophile.

I don’t know about hush money since the indictment came down, but his MO was to keep the kids quiet with bribes of various sorts (and threats when that wouldn’t work), so it would not surprise me.
I feel sorry for the kids in the case. What a burden they are being asked to carry. You KNOW their names will be leaked, and then, for the rest of their lives, they’ll be “that homo kid” or “that guy that got Sanduskied” or, even worse, subject to death threats. So Sandusky ruins their lives twice — once with memories of these awful episodes, and a second time by the media exploiting them. Horrible.
You obviously don’t know much about the case. The investigation of Sandusky in 1998, and the disappearance of the DA in 2005 happened long before any of this became public knowledge.
It’s the Michael Jackson Trial all over again...perverts certainly know how to consult the playbook.
Did he have dementia in 2000, when he witnesses the crime and told the other janitors of it?
This is one hell of a conspiracy. Poor, poor Jerry. Crazy janitors, 7-20 kids, McQueary, all making up the same crazy story about him. What are the odds?
Those kids will wind up being even more on trial than Sandusky will.
“Still, he admitted to showering and playing with kids?
That’s guilty talk!”
He can’t very well deny it now, when the police overheard him admit as much back in ‘98. His lawyer must try to create a narrative that takes that into account, while minimizing the rest of the charges.
Does he really think we’re that stupid?
I lived in Charlottesville for a few years in the mid 80s and attended PSU 89-93
UVA is far more elitist/old money...Penn State is far more middle class, nouveau riche, and conservative...at least that was my impression at the time.
Wrong.
Penn State doesn't have a pension system. It isn't paying Sandusky anything.
Tonight, Fox News questioned why Penn State is handling Schultz and Curley's legal bills. The answer to that is simple: they have been accused of a crime in the discharge of their duty as university officials. Penn State agrees to indemnify its employees in those kinds of cases. There is nothing the least bit wrong with it.
Tonight, Bill O'Reilly said Joe Paterno "participated" in a "cover-up" and got what he deserved. Really? How does reporting the crime as required amount to participation in a cover-up? Does Ted Baxter know that the PA Attorney General questioned Joe Paterno's firing as unjustified, since he is a cooperating witness?
ESPN has actually been even worse, if possible.
Idiots on this very thread are crediting the silliest and most unfounded rumors as true, and "go all the way to the PA Statehouse." Really? How is that actually possible when the current governor (as AG) was the person who began this investigation? You think he opened this can of worms to hide it? You think Paterno had McQueary report the crime to the head of Campus Police to "cover it up?" Seriously? My Lord...
And so on, and so on, and so on ... ad nauseum.
We KNOW NOTHING more now than we knew then days ago. Nothing. And what we knew ten days ago was not proof of anybody's guilt. Yes, I think Jerry Sandusky is guilty... although I'm not yet sure of what. I very seriously doubt Schultz and Curley are guilty of felony perjury, but we shall see.
I think UVA gets that from the northern virginia influence. That’s the reason I don’t put it in the PSU because it’s not really UVA in my mind. Then again, the “We are Ivy League even though we aren’t” mentality does grate.
Exactly. The STATE has to presume that Sandusky is innocent until proven guilty, no matter how damning the evidence looks. The rest of us are under no obligation to ignore the obvious.

Tell the truth for once on this thread.
I’m not defending Sandusky. I think he’s probably guilty. What I am saying is that there are significant facts in dispute, and some of things in the Grand Jury report will not withstand scrutiny. The Grand Jury inclusion of the 2000 incident was a mistake which will not be admitted at trial unless the actual victim comes forward. The janitor was a temporary employee who left PSU shortly after the incident and never reported it to the police. What his coworkers testified to is hearsay.
Penn State doesn't pay the pension and can't reduce or increase the benefit -- which is set BY LAW -- by so much as a single penny.
Penn State has nothing to say about it whatsoever.
By Law -- PA ACT 140 -- only the SERS administrators (who are not in the least bit answerable to PSU) can take those benefits away, and only upon conviction of very specific crimes.
Why do you think posts 2 and 3 have been deleted. As I previously said, early on the lynch mob mentally was clearly expressed in this thread. That is where I first comment in agreement with some. So you are wrong.
Sandusky didn’t admit to a sex act with a child per se, because the incident in question wasn’t purported to be a sex act by the accuser. It was more a case of inappropriate sexual touching, and that is what Sandusky basically admitted to, although when pressed about the most damning detail he said he “wasn’t sure” whether or not it happened.
Second Mile has some pretty big donors.

Penn State participates in the Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System. It is paying Sandusky his annual $60,000 pension until he pleads guilt or is found guilty through the SERS program.
Now you're just being completely disingenuous. Do you work for Penn State?
