STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- The Nebraska and Penn State players gathered at midfield before the game, kneeling together for a long moment in a quiet stadium. Sometimes, the most powerful statements are the simplest. A child sex-abuse scandal involving former assistant Jerry Sandusky has rocked Penn State to its core, cost Joe Paterno his job and prompted a week's worth of soul-searching. Saturday's game was a combination of pep rally, cleansing and tribute, fans and players balancing their wish to show love for Penn State and Paterno while also wanting to support victims of abuse. "This has been one of the saddest weeks in the history of Penn State and my heart goes out to those who have been victimized. I share your anger and sorrow," new school president Rod Erickson said in a video played in the first quarter.

I would have been proud of them only if they had decided to sit the game out. My guess is even if the players made such a decision, the Penn State administration would have threatened each and every one of them with some sort of academic penalty.
Being a cult member will do that to you.
It’s awful. The way Paterno is idolized is pathetic!
This whole thing is not over by a long shot...
the football season should be over for Penn State.
TOO MANY PEOPLE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON!!
“I would have been proud of them only if they had decided to sit the game out.”
Yes, that would have been the appropriate response by the football team!
Agreed. It sickens me.
“This didnt happen to any players!”
The players would already know what’s up. This stuff doesn’t stay quiet....like the prof who likes certain young men/women students. That stuff gets out. Fast.
But Sandusky does live near an elementary school.
Consider this: Could this be Sandusky paying back Paterno/Penn State for telling him he would not be Penn State head coach? Just sayin’............
For those watching the game...
I heard on John Claytons radio talk show, that they were best friends, and next door neighbors.
I wonder how many players helped the mob of stupid students tear up the town a few nights ago.
NEBRASKA WINS!!!!
The NAMBLANY LIONS LOSE!!!!!
Pedd State loses 17-14.
Good. I’m glad they lost.
How awful that they even played today.
Penn State just lost. Good.
My favorite?
From now until eternity, Whoever beats Penn State!
Are the players praying on the field and the crowd is screaming PSU chants while they are doing so? Is that what I just saw? PSU fans lack class.
Penn State lost YEARS AGO.
This household did not participate in this game.
This household, if finding out, will not purchase sponsor products.
This household salutes Cars.com.
This household honors the vulnerable.
“What fellowship hath light with darkness?”
they are really conflicted, aren’t they?
It’s really a no-brainer.
PSU has no shame or class!
At the end of the game, the announcers were speaking as if Penn State and Joe Paterno were the victims. The actual victims were an afterthought.
