Thank you, Taz. It’s just a cold, but the cough is really nasty right now.

I’m ready for my bankie! :)

Webb now turned to the failing fortunes of Motown’s Supremes (minus Diana Ross) and produced an album for them, titled ”The Supremes: Produced and Arranged by Jimmy Webb”. It did not improve their fortunes.

”5:30 Plane”

”I Keep in Hid”

In 1973, Art Garfunkel, after splitting with Paul Simon, recorded an album, ”Angel Clare”, with two Webb songs. The first became a successful single.

”All I Know”

When Columbia released “All I Know” as a single, they butchered the ending because they feared people would not sit still for its full length and might change the station. It’s very difficult to find recordings of the album version, but I managed to locate one. At the end, the piano resolves the song’s line, slowly and gently, into a beautiful and serene C Major cadence. It’s a masterpiece, and one of the very best songs Webb ever wrote.

”Another Lullaby”

The Grace Cathedral organ makes a fine addition to this song.

Beautiful...and the organ makes a fine accompaniment for it. I know someone who might appreciate that.

In 1974, Webb married Patsy. He was 28, and she was 19. The guest of honor at the wedding was their baby. Webb had pretty much kept his commitment, although he got the baby part and marriage part in reverse order. The marriage was to produce six children and last for 22 years.

Jimmy Webb went back into the studio to record ”Land’s End”, which received more critical acclaim.

Joe Cocker surprised everyone when he recorded a Webb song based on the title of Robert Heinlein’s classic sci-fi novel. It was to be one of Webb’s most recorded songs and a true masterpiece.
