We do turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy, pies, lima beans, rolls, etc and it cost MANY times that $43. The turkey can cost THAT much. 7 of us eating.
We’ll spend considerably less than that on food for 11 of us, especially using the free-turkey special at the Food Lion.
But we’ll spend more on wine and beer.
Article says turkey costs 1.35 per pound. However, I just saw turkeys on sale for 78 cents/pound and they will go lower by Thanksgiving.
In other news, Al Gore still has not found the key to his “lockbox”.
13% is a small price to pay for an end to the Stuffing Mine wars.

TV dinners have NOT gone up 13% since last year...
I’m showing solidarity with my OWS brothers and sisters and eating at my mom’s for free this Thanksgiving.
I’m showing solidarity with my mom by washing first. I hope OWS won’t disown me...

A Thanksgiving meal for TEN for less than $50 bucks?!! Not around my house! Turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, corn, rolls, pumpkin pie with Cool Whip, apple pie, and a cherry one thrown in for good measure. The good thing about it is leftovers for several days.
It’s the chestnuts for the stuffing that set me back the most. Last year they went for over $3.50 a pound.I buy at least 3 pounds.
Cut farm subsidies.
I think we will be paying about $50 and that’s for appetizers, salad, pop, and tableware. (our share) Bet our total family outlay will be close to $250. Ten people.
What’s REALLY difficult is getting the spouse to understand that there has been a huge rise in food prices, but our fixed income is well...fixed. He thinks I’m just being cheap. I’m trying to keep our heads above water.
It’s going to be difficult to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.
All of the turkeys are in Washington, DC.
CNBC reported this hurriedly yesterday going into a station break, but said it was $49.20 per person, not for ten. I figured they were pouring some pretty good wine at their table.
Well......eat a unicorn......I guess that’s OK now.....evidently we have unicorn farmers.....damnit......spilled my whiskey bottle.....unicorns-the other white meat.....filthy stinkin’ cannibals.
Has the price of turnips gone up?
I checked with Ram’s Horn restaurant. Turkey dinner will be same price as last year. :-)
Here is an unusual, but popular, Thanksgiving dish. Very
rich, and even kids like it.
Asparagus, Egg and Cheese Casserole
6 tbsp butter
3 tbsp chopped green pepper
2 tbsp grated onion
4 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
Saute green pepper and onion in butter until tender in top of
double boiler, then put over hot water, add flour and blend.
Gradually add milk and cook until smooth and thick. Add salt
and pepper.
3-15 oz drained cans of asparagus
6 sliced hard boiled eggs
American cheese slices
3/4 cup buttered crumbs
Alternate layers of asparagus, egg slices and cheese slices,
and sauce in a large, square baking dish. Top with final layer
of sauce and buttered crumbs.
Bake, covered in a 350F oven for 20 minutes.
That's pretty cheap. Maybe we could downgrade the "food stamp" program to just give out Thanksgiving dinners for every meal - it would be cheaper, right?
