DeMint: No king to make, no candidate to back (No endorsement for anyone from Jim)
Washington comPOST ^ | 11/6/11 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 11/06/2011 3:41:15 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat

My colleague Marc Thiessen breaks some news in reporting that Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) will not be endorsing a Republican presidential candidate in the primary. This is a surprising but understandable recognition (as Bill Kristol did in his own way) that there is no viable not-Romney in the race.

Anyone who expected he might endorse Mitt Romney hasn’t been paying much attention to either the GOP race or DeMint’s role in the Tea Party movement. When DeMint did offer supportive words for Romney, he was beset by angry activists and soon backed off. DeMint is not about to sacrifice his role as a prominent Tea Party leader by endorsing the not-Tea Party candidate, Mitt Romney. DeMint and Romney most likely both know such an endorsement would be worthless in any event. DeMint’s followers wouldn’t follow his lead on this one; Romney supporters and potential supporters are not the type to be swayed by the hard-line DeMint.

"Last time he went Mitt...hmm."

Translation: "I don't want to get primaried."

This is a crock. Rubin is full of crapola..the supposed WaPo conservative blogger is in the tank for Mitt.

BOTH DeMint and Nikki Haley decided long ago, and said so publicly, that because SC's primary is so important to picking the nominee..it's the first one in the south, where the GOP base is, that they would refrain from any endorsements untul AFTER the SC primary...

Not too surprising. Very weak field.

Cain is proving to be a very viable candidate, one who makes the establishment very uncomfortable. They don’t know how to regard a complete outsider.

“DeMint’s followers wouldn’t follow his lead”

Well then they’re not followers. They’re leaders.

Didn’t even notice the byline until I read tha article, and I wouldn’t have wasted my time if I had noticed who wrote it.

Everything that Jennifer Rubin woman writes is pure disinformation.

If Romney gets the nod, then try and enjoy the 2nd term of 0bama.

DeMint is less than a year into a six year term of office. The last thing he’s worried about is getting primaried.

Cain scares the establishment to the point of the “scandal” getting 11,000 headlines on Google News searches, yet none of them have any kind of explanation on what was “scandalous”.

I love Jim DeMint but why would his first inclination be toward Mitt Romney. Not good. Now he says there is no viable candidate? Anybody but Mitt is a good candidate at this point. I am very disappointed in Demint. He was my first choice for GOP presidential candidate.

I sometimes wonder if Demint doesn’t really commit until after he sees where the crowd is heading.

That should tell you all you need to know. DeMint is much to silent on conservative issues. I think he’s a card carrying RINO.

Not having the courage to make an endorsement is cowardly. He’s more concerned with politial smartness than what is good for America.

Yep, they still refuse to get it. Tea Party conservatives will not vote for a RINO. RINOs absolutely can’t believe they can’t control real conservatives any more. If they really believe a third party candidate can’t win then they must move to us not us to them.

That said it is important that conservative House candidates win and we take control of the Senate. That way, if The usurping Marxist Onada wins—or a surrogate—he/she is powerless.

The Tea Party altered the trajectory of the Republican Party and the national agenda. If it wants to change the leadership, it’ll need to learn new skills and run smarter, better candidates.

We had such a candidate.

She chose not to run.
