Republican 2012 presidential candidates Republican 2012 presidential candidates Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich met in a Lincoln-Douglas style debate on current economic and social issues facing the U.S.
Gingrich was superior.
Me too...Newt was excellent on unemployment on medicaid and spouting off figures on soc sec. Two good men. Newt/Cain
We all know that Newt has more “knowledge” but that is only half the battle. If you can’t inspire, and sell, and establish trust, it doesn’t matter how smart you are.
Gingrich is a good leader of politicians, Cain is a good leader of the people in general. The average Joe understands and connects with Cain. That is crucial in the general election.
Cain/Gingrich would be a juggernaut.
Again, I am really nervous about Gingrich’s ideas of centralizing medical information. Seriously. And in another debate, I did not like his pell grants to states for K-12. We need to get gov’t out of education.
That was outstanding...simply outstanding.
I have friends in computer security involved in the health care industry. With few exceptions, there is no security in health care information.
Excellent discussion. Refreshing to see two GOP candidates with genuine respect for one another. I thought both did well in their own unique ways.
Our long time neighbor bought a new house. She decided to rent the one by us out under Section 8. It’s a 3 bedroom and would rent for about $1000/mo. It is being rented to a young single mom with 1 child.... a 3 bedroom for 2 people. The young lady works part time at a fast food joint. She gets every benefit there is! Enough is enough.
Newt must have read some of my previous posts on FR ;)
If they’re young and able bodied they go to school on a pell grant. She’d qualify for a pell grant anyway. Give them 6 months after they’re done with school and no more freebies. Why in the h e double hockey sticks are the taxpayers footing such a big rent bill when there are cheaper places in town? I think it is part of the socialist agenda to make everyone equal.
It is garbage, baloney, crapola, whatever word you want to call it. If you have renters near you, go to your county public records and find out who the property owner is. Betcha it’s a realtor who is renting section 8. Some are getting fat off our backs and it’s high time it stopped!!!
Cain gets a standing O for belting the unfair, unethical national journalists during this campaign —no doubt referenced “the smear”— right between eyes with a tire iron! LOL!! Eat on that one, Karl Rove. People are energized...and Cain his turned a cruel, sinful negative against him INTO A GROWING POSITVE. That one should go viral!
Watched this over the ball game, and glad I did. Very informative and entertaining debate - refreshing to not have to hear Huntsman’s lame jokes and Romney’s non-answer dithering.
I prefer Newt and intend on voting for him in the primaries, but like them both. I could definitely see these two guys as the ticket, with either man at the top of the ticket.
I thought this was the most substantive “debate” of all to date.
While Newt did very well, and is obviously smart and knowledgeable, I was a bit concerned by his frequent references to “the government giving people more choices”. He’s got a fundamental understanding wrong, and that tells me that he is still a “statist” as Mark Levin puts it, albeit one who is more conservative than many others.
Lot of us early boomers on this board it looks like. Agree whole-heartedly with your statement. Both of them will pull each others poll numbers up.
I think all GOP candidates should refuse to ever debate again with a leftist moderator. :)
YES, they did.
This was inspirational. That's all there is to it!
..no, just exchanging ideas ; -)
ditto
Our Republican office is open all year round - the activity never stops.
That would be great!
As I said earlier in this thread, can you imagine Newt debating Plugs Biden? Newt would destroy him!
That's not the people they were specifically addressin...more those who are simply riding out the weeks of unemployment... I've seen these people...shopping, vacationing, fixing up their houses, and many doing nothing at all. I was unemployed and it's not an easy place to be...there are no days off..it's on your mind 24/7...you're either thinking about the next place your going to applu...tweeking resumes'...cold calling places...and that's seven days a week.
Cain/Newt
I honestly believe this is America's last chance to get it right. We need to earnestly pray for discernment for the right President/V President combination whot will unite this country and reinstill the principles on which America was founded.
Both need to be servant leaders who love the Lord.
