Godfather’s only “bled” a loss for a couple of years, and they certainly expected to turn it around.

And certainly, being able to maintain profit is better than having losses. But we aren’t talking about a 2-year window here. He ran the company for 10 years, and was on the board for another 6. And during that time, other CEOs managed to make profit and grow their business in exactly the same field that Cain was in.

I’ll let you read through my long-winded post on the subject before I comment further. As to the “staffing”, you have to remember that a lot of the stores are franchises, so you can cut them and it doesn’t change your headcount.

On the other hand, please think about the logic behind the statement “he managed to close half the stores while cutting staff by only 20%. Quite remarkable”.

The staff exists to manage the stores/franchises. You are saying he cut half the stores, but only got rid of 20% of the support staff. Isn’t that a bad thing? Isn’t the idea to get rid of 50% of the staff, but only have to close 20% of the stores? (I have no idea if those numbers are correct, I’m just using your numbers). The point of a company isn’t to employ as many people as possible, it is to get as much out of each person as possible.

And last point — most companies get into profit trouble when they expand, because new stores cost money and don’t have the income yet. The easiest way to regain profitability is to close the stores that are bleeding you dry. That is not remarkable, it is the FIRST step in a turnaround, and the easiest. What you want from a turnaround artist is to do that with as few cuts in stores as possible, and to then get new stores under a better controlled structure that makes you money while growing your revenue.

There is pretty much no way to spin a loss of 6 places within a market as a sign of good leadership, over an 18-year period.

We turned in here for a discussion of the Cain/Gingrich debate. Perry wasn’t even invited, so I figured it would be safe from the anti-Perry childish namecalling, but as usual, I underestimated the childish delinquency of a few freepers. So before the debate even started, there were multiple false attacks and childish namecalling of perry and his supporters.

Come on, Charles. I'm not going to go look now, but I clearly recall some Perry supporters cracking wise near the beginning of the thread. They're well known enough, that their meaning wasn't lost on those who were paying attention. That's when the "games" began.

If you really just wanted to track with tonight's debate, you could have let the Perry comments slide, and concentrated on conversing about the topic at hand.

Glass houses, and all that...

Gingrich laughed a lot, and then didn’t answer the question. Gingrich asked Cain a serious question that would allow Cain to explain to the audience what he would bring to the presidency. Cain used his question to Gingrich to make a joke. There was no way as a candidate for President to answer that question.

I noticed it more on the 2nd time through — it was like Cain was pretending he was doing a job interview with Gingrich for the VP slot. Gingrich decided to take it as a humorous question, and ducked it with his humorous response. He NEVER answered the question seriously — because no Presidential candidate would.

Possibly the most informative, intelligent and civil debate I’ve heard. Kudo’s to Gingrich and Cain.

You didn’t even bother to participate in the thread, so what difference is it to you? Now you are here right in the middle of an excellent discussion of Cain and Gingrich, and going off-topic with a rant about how the “thread” was taken over.

This thread was taken over from the start, but in part by people who decided it would be fun to trash a candidate who wasn’t even invited to this debate by lying about that, and by making fun of him. I was here to discuss cain and gingrich, and before the debate even started I had to address false charges against Perry.

But still, most of the thread that you missed was quite an enjoyable discussion of the debate and the issues that were brought up at the debate. Maybe you should go back and read the 1500 comments. It wasn’t as bad as you might think.

“Yep. I suppose that I’m as guilty as anyone for adding fuel to that sidetracking. “

I just thank God that in my perfection, I have never done that ;)

When you crunch the numbers, there are a mere handful of posters here going Gobbels. Spot over 30% for margin of liberal and the polls still show the Public rejects him for his ideas and bad aim. I don’t think this is so much a case as conservatives tearing each other apart as it is liberally inclined right wingers (and flat out lib disruptors) coming to grips with what they really want. And what they want is at odds with conservative values.

Perry or Mitt would be McCain 2008 redux.

I'm telling you, they must hate Free Republic with a vengeance, because (most) Freepers have had them figured them out all along.

Charles, what I participate in or commment on is none of your business. Dont like it? Call a mod and make your case to JR. And when you take into account the disgusting display of liberalism you put on in our last encounter (the Oct 17 Cain thread) your opinion is less that credible.

My comment was made after reading the entire 1500 post thread. Which caused me to comment. See how that works?

What are you gonna do? Squeal on me?

Are you always so non-sequitur in your responses? No wonder you're so in love with Rick Perry. You both speak the same garbled, unintelligible language.

“Well, them so-and-so’s made me that way! LOL “

That’s heartless of you to say. Rick Perry would never do something like that and I think that his supporters here would back me up.

Er...wait a sec...

Gingrich: Some illegal immigrants may stay

I haven't seen the details of the Perry transcript; but it sounds like a version of Sarah Palin's plan, as she outlined it some time ago. You seal the borders, get the flow of illegals under control. Then you offer temporary work permits to the illegals already here and working. It gets them out of the shadows, you get them registered, figure out what work they are doing and if they are needed, and then after their temp permits expire, they go home and re-apply (the part which called for them to go home and come back).

If they don't immediately register, you track them down and deport them. It's a middle ground for those like Palin who say you can't just round up all the illegals and send them home. You may disagree, but we haven't had much luck doing it so far.

I can't find Cain's statement on what to do after the border is secured. Maybe you can provide a link.

Hey, she clarified it, and in only ONE clarification. Since you are a Cain supporter, would it help if she offered 2 more clarifications? Cain usually has it right by the 4th one.

I accept that principals are not fresh. They are rock steady. My problem is that we seem to be looking for the Politician du jour.

Well if that's all you're worried about, why not support the other presidential candidate from Texas? He's been serving a whole lot longer than Rick Perry has.

They would form an alliance with the Democrats before they would ever support the Tea Party.

I'm not too sure that is not done already.

Thank you. I just get so frustrated, and depressed after reading an entire thread of that. I’m sure there are some Cain supporters doing the same thing, but I haven’t seen it because I don’t read Perry threads anymore.
Regardless of who’s doing it, it needs to stop, or we will lose next year, or we’ll end up with Mittens, and that will be the same thing.
