I agree totally with your perspective on Newt and Cain. Newt got bamboozled time and again by Clinton. He is a brilliant professor, but not a leader.

Herman Cain may not have all the nitty gritty answers but his leadership skills would be a great asset to our country.

Hilarious, isn’t it? Perry declines to participate and instead of his sychopants critizing him for a chance to state his ideas, they’re whining about the two men who did an incredible job. What a bunch of whack jobs.

This ‘dialogue’ had limited content— entitlements. Economics and unions were not the topics. But they should do another one that includes those!

I think cain is coming off pretty lame in this format.

He needs his “horse” lines, his 999, and all that jazz to be popular.

When he gets clinical he loses steam

Yes, sweet old Cain not quite so sweet as to how he’s treated Perry.

Cain, Santorum and Bachmann are heroes in ensuring that we will NEVER be stuck with the liberal Texan. God Bless Cain, Santorum, and Bachmann. Santorum and Bachmann especially put America before themselves when dealing with Perry. Cain, Santorum and Bachmann are incredible conservatives, patriots, and heroes!!!!!!

Agree completely. It was a true upper after all we’ve been enduring the past few years, including the GOP race so far.

Just finishing my 2nd viewing.

At the risk of becoming a nuisance, I’ll re-post the C-SPAN archive site where it can be watched again at each FReeper’s leisure:

Haa! We news junkies are all alike.

It was a very good discussion. They didn’t disagree with much that each other said, so it wasn’t really a debate in the true sense of the word. But they both spoke well, were courteous, relaxed. Certain topics weren’t mentioned that folks would’ve like to have hear but there is always a time constraint. Be sure and watch it when you can. The press is already distorting Cain’s remarks, so you know they must’ve said something right.

And happy anniversary.

OK. I have now watched Cain’s Social Security answers in the replay, and I still have a question.

It seemed in his discussion of voluntary privatization that he kept talking about taking the payroll taxes that the company and the individual pays, and allowing individuals to direct parts of those dollars to a private account. That’s fine.

But Cain’s 9-9-9 plan eliminates those payroll taxes. So how would Cain create a partial privatized social security using employer/employee payroll taxes, when there are no payroll taxes? Would he have to fund it from general revenue, since under 9-9-9 social security has to move into general revenue, as it’s dedicated funding stream is eliminated?

Gingrich called for separating Social Security back out of the budget, so it wouldn’t get caught up in the debt debate and so congress wouldn’t keep spending the SS “trust fund”. Obviously you can’t move SS off the budget under Cain’s 9-9-9 plan, because SS becomes a general program.

At least, that’s how I understood 9-9-9. But Cain’s talk on Social Security sounded like there would still be payroll taxes. So I’m confused.

Could one of you kind Cain supporters, who understand the details of 9-9-9, tell me what if anything I got wrong there?

The only problem with what you say is if it were true, Obama wouldn't be president. We don't need more of the kind of experience that we already have in Washington.

Every president goes into the office with hardly any true knowledge of what is going on in foreigh police. Thats why there is communication between outgoing and incoming admin. What one does with that info is what makes up the new foreign policy..it can be followed or taken in an entirely new direction..

On many things candidates can only talk in general directions and based on their own knowledge where they want to go.

In many ways being president is an on going experience learned. They just need to state that based on what they have known, they would go in X policy.

The actual candidate and the outgoing admin. do exchange actual information not open to the public..

Where has all that policy knowledge from career politicians gotten us? I like Newt, but it’s time for an outsider.
