It's pretty clear that this Herman Cain harassment story does not have any legs. Of the truly damaging kind, anyway. (Unless, of course, this new employee can provide any actual details.)
Here's what appears to be getting lost in that story. Herman Cain's continuing ignorance on foreign policy.
Sure the initial ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan remark made for good late night fodder. But Cain's remarks regarding foreign policy in the last 24 hours should be sounding alarm bells. And they aren't.
Imagine for a moment (as Joe Scarborough did this morning) that Sarah Palin had said in an interview that she was worried about China as a military threat because they've "indicated that they're trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have."
Cain said that last night on PBS. China has had nuclear capability since 1964.
Or declared it was her intention to send war ships into the Persian Gulf and get in a shooting war with Iran. As Cain did on O'Reilly last night.
Palin, meanwhile, was excoriated (and rightly so) for telling Katie Couric she reads "all the papers" and that her foreign policy experience was rooted in the fact Alaska was bordered by foreign countries (hence the SNL line "I can see Alaska from my house").
That interview was so damaging it essentially ended Palin's (and McCain's) White House run. One wonders if Cain would even make headline for anything so mundane.
It's true that Cain is not the official nominee as Palin was. But he has now sustained his lead in the polls for so long that he needs to be treated with some gravitas. Outside of MSNBC the media has been slow to shift to

Why the Hell do this people think the State Department exists? Why the Attorney Gneral exists? Why the Secretary of the Treasury exists?
IT’S BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT DOESN’T DO EVERYTHING HIMSELF!!
JR is gonna have to make a new rule regarding this misnamed rag.
If it’s all about creating jobs, Rick Perry gets the nod.
If it’s all about who has the best business sense, Mitt Romney is at least his equal.
If it’s all about intelligence, Newt Gingrich is the obvious choice.
If it’s all about character Tim Tebow will be available in January.
Ooops that was some other guy, nevermind.
Hell they don’t care if somebody does know what they’re talking about. They just want to attack those they see as outsiders.
Michele Bachmann has been ridiculed for foreign policy comments she’s made and she’s on the select committee on intelligence.
Also, Palin was honorable. I never felt that she lied about anything, she released everything immediately (at one point even overwhelming the hostile press) and she never attacked another GOP candidate, even though she probably had ample reason to do so.
But I actually think one of the reasons she didn’t run after all - although for about 2 years, I hadn’t thought that she planned to run - was because she didn’t want to be anybody’s personal savior. Some people here on FR are so committed to Cain (just as the Dems were committed to Obama and even to Clinton) that I find it a little frightening.
It’s not about personalities, it’s about policy and capability.

I was very fortunate to have as my professor in foreign policy studies to be a gentleman by the name of professor Lawrence. He had been a adviser to president Kennedy. The most important thing he said we have to understand about foreign policy is how quickly it changes, three months and it is mostly stale. The damage done and ongoing right now by the current administration; makes it impossible to predict where the world will be when Cain takes the oath of office.
Herman Cain is a CEO by training in a real world scenario, which has made him a great manager, which means he knows how to identify good people, no one knows every thing, except Obama that is and look how that’s working out.
Cain’s plan is projected to create 6 million jobs.
Agreed, but if you're honest you could also say the same thing about Palin.
PS; What they did to Sarah Palin was not a standard! It was political slaughter!
I guess the game wasn’t as “on” as some folks thought.
Agreed, but if you’re honest you could also say the same thing about Palin
Mostly the same people, switching from one idol to another..
I would rather have a President who admits he is not an expert on every single issue and knows how to hire good people to help him the the last few who pretending to be geniuses on every single thing
Stupid move.
Ending the Obama Presidency and his Keynsian nonsense will create at least that many no matter who we nominate.
