That was fast: As part of its seemingly ever-evolving media strategy, Herman Cain’s campaign appears to have pulled the plug on blaming Rick Perry for the swirl of accusations surrounding the candidate.
“We want to move on with the campaign. Let’s get over these things that don’t mean anything to the American public,” Mark Block, Cain's campaign manager, told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Thursday afternoon.
But that’s not about to become any easier. Politico reported Thursday that one of the women who accused Cain of sexual harassment during his time at the National Restaurant Assn. received a payout of $45,000 to settle the matter and keep quiet.
Previously, the New York Times reported that a second woman received a severance of $35,000—which for her was a year’s salary.
The Politico report would seem to again put Cain’s credibility at issue. He has said the woman’s complaint is one that he recalls, but has described it as “baseless” and first said she received a negligible “termination" settlement of perhaps two or three months' salary.
He later shifted his account, saying the amount could have been larger, perhaps six months’ salary.
Block appeared on Fox News on Wednesday evening and blistered the Perry campaign, accusing former Cain aide Curt Anderson, now in the Perry camp, of leaking details of the harassment allegations.
But Anderson, in a round of media interviews, denied knowing anything about the allegations and had nothing but good things to say about Cain.
“I didn't know anything about this. It's hard to leak something you don't know anything about, of course,” Anderson told CNN on Thursday.

You have NO IDEA what a rumor mill this town is !!! Secrets and confidentiality have no place here, especially in the political realm. Truman’s ‘get a dog’ line was not for naught.
Think about how many people knew the story ... NRA staff and their lawyers and their staffs, their lobbyists and their staffs, some Capitol Hill staffers and their wives, girlfriends, friends, 3rd cousins twice removed, and on and on and on.

And so did the fuzzy little angels of digital discorporation flutter down from Valhalla clad in the protective armor of “Hazmat the Inviolate” so as to ward off any lingering and as-yet unidentified pathogens from the binary nits and bytes of the bezotted bonehead. And lo didith they carry him off to fell Trollhenge and deposit him into the Porcelain receptacle with the rest of the poopith.
And there was MUCH rejoicing! (For we ALL haZ a happy!)
Today brethren, a team of Asgardean scientists gather daily to try and make sense of one whose sense clearly left some time ago. A reading from the Book of ZOT!
Confusion reigns amongst the faithful brethren and we are left to wonder why.
Should it come as a shock to those proclaiming the Conservative virtues that when they turnith to words liberal and speakith falsely that Divine justice should fall from the skies of Asgard?
As the Norns foretold long ago brethren, to thyine own selves one must be true. And so it came to pass that two more amongst the faithful, Clarity and Polybus, did forsakith their conservatism and so speak falsely amongst the realm.
But their lies did not go unnoticed by the Kittith, whose eyes are everywhere! In ceilings, in basements and across the fruited plain!
And so did the Kittith show the mercy of the Great Cat himself and stay their sword and claw, for the two were brethren of some reknown. They were given the chance to repent their ways and rejoin the true way of conservatism. Yet they didith forsake such mercies and spitith upon their would-be saviors!
And so it did come to pass that the two didith escelatith their liberalism, and one did adopt the ways of the fell Gobbels, propagandist from another realm! Clearly the Plague of Stupidicus hadith indeedith befallen him!
And so, like the assassins of old, did the Lord thy Mod come, stealing their digital lives like a thief in the night...and there was much rejoicing! For we are a merry people. Yet some amongst the faithful question such wisdom!
Why? These lands are a place for those who believe in truth and integrity! It does not take a long study in the science and engineering of rocketry and other high magics to comprehend that liberal actions and words false havith no place in the realm!

Oh, for sorrowful shame, but I might have known. Those two have long pushed the fell edges of the envelope with their scurrilous blatherings, and have disheartened many of the merry folk of our realm.
I, for one, rejoice at their disintegration, and raise a toast to the Kitteth and the Great Cat for removing their foul essence from our midst.
