Look, when this story first broke, Cain had everyone on his side.
We (even non Cain supporters) were indignant that such an apparently baseless smear would be leveled against the guy.
We all know how hard it is in business not to be accused of something by some nutcase.
But why is it still a hot topic? Why wasn’t it a one-day wonder?
I think one of the reasons Rush is so passionate about it is that it reminds him of Clarence Thomas and Rush loves Clarence Thomas as do I.
Mr. Herman Cain has kept this story in the press by his own words and actions.
Doesn’t anyone wonder why?

Someone needs to figure out why the Cain hate for Perry.
Not only did he make the ridiculous claim that Perry is racist based on a Rock, but he made the odd and unnecessary statement that he would be willing to be a veep for Romney but not Perry.
More interesting to me than this woman charge, except, well, why did he indicate that no matter how many women came forward they were all lying ... okay, okay, not in so many words but ....
I really don’t care about the women. I care that he is so amateurish and unprofessional.
If he can’t handle this simple little thing, how can he run a country?
That is pretty much how I see it, altura. When did we evolve in our own primaries to hero worship and blinders? This is when we are supposed to vet the best candidate out of the bunch to go up against the other party, instead we seem to be holding a popularity contest and since Hannity, Levin, Boortz all think their fellow radio guy is the cats-meow then hey vote for him, no matter if he a GOP version of Bill Clinton... what bothers me is he didn’t seem to know China has nukes, thinks he can use Aegis missals to protect us from Iran, his 999 plan will kill the poor and seniors on fixed incomes; just like Clinton and Obama he is skating by on charm, i want substance.
How do YOU know they are baseless? You can hope they are baseless, but none of us KNOW they are baseless.
Not only would the lawyer have kept the file, he would have posted the result on his web page without naming the specific national association along with an approximate settlement number.

I doubt that it has been Mr. Cain's intention to keep this story in the press. Although he has admitted that he would have liked to have handle it better... I am not sure that his words and actions would have changed the outcome.
On the other hand as I said previously in another post; the only way that this is going to turn out badly for him is if a beautiful young woman with a heart breaking story of abuse and a semen stained dress comes forward. Short of that, the name recognition and the perception that the media and the other candidates are using smear tactics against a good man are only going to increase his numbers.
Lets face it, most of the public would much rather tune into a sex scandal than boring debates about the depressing state of the economy, or a candidate droning on about foreign relations. So I definitely understand the point you are making. After watching Rick Perry great performance on Hannity tonight... I am cringing even more about the feuding going on between Republican candidates. It is just bad news.

Mr. Cain never said that Gov. Perry was a racist... he specifically said that he did not believe that Gov. Perry was a racist but that the name painted on the rock was “insensitive”.
This was a gotcha question posed by the media. Mr. Cain could have ignored it completely and gave ammunition to those calling him an “Uncle Tom” or he could respond in the least confrontational way possible. It is a little unbelievable to me that Perry people have savored this issue for so long. Everyone would have forgotten about it if Perry people would stop bringing it up in discussion after discussion. We understand that you want your guy to look like he is a victim but it is starting to get a little pathetic.

We agree on that. Attacks on other Republican candidates are counter productive so despite what I just wrote you about the rock... I think it was a mistake for Mr. Cain's campaign manager to attack Gov. Perry tonight.
Well, I haven’t kept bringing it up. I’d almost forgotten it until this other stuff came up and then I started thinking about all the times Cain has shown hostility to Perry.
As for it being a gotcha question, oh, sure it was. But Cain did handle it badly. He should have just said he didn’t know enough about it to comment. I saw the show. It gave me a little tiny feeling that this man is way too sensitive about race (okay, maybe with good cause) or that he really doesn’t like Perry.

There was no “settlement,” but there was an unsuccessful begging process. The Lawyer that was doing the begging has admitted that he has no records of it, and that definitely means that he failed.
At this point, Cain is the only one that is not screwing anybody.

You can bet that Perry definitely had everything to do with it.
Perry has always been that kind of guy. Spoiled kid never grew up.
Look Carolyn at this point the charges are baseless. Only one of the women is supposedly restrained from commenting by a legal agreement and she has now told her attorney she doesn't want him to try to get the agreement dropped. The other two are not willing to come forward. The allegations are ambiguous and the accusers are anonymous. There is absolutely no proof of anything at all. That is the pretty much the definition of baseless.
When Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo Kopechne there was a body. When President Clinton lied about having “sexual relations” with a young intern his semen was found on her dress. When John Edwards payed off a campaign worker who he got pregnant there was a baby. All of those episodes had physical evidence that proved that they happened. Unless someone produces some type of physical evidence that this fishing expedition has something substantial to back it up... the allegations are baseless.
That is my feeling also, but I would have prefered that someone other than Mr. Cain’s campaign manager would have made the accusation. I don’t like the appearance that our candidates are fighting and don’t like one another. I am pretty sure that they would not have done this if they didn’t know all of the people involved personally and were sure they knew exactly what happened. If not it was a risky move.
