In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:
Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency. ...
Liberal progressives and other enemies of the constitution and or of Liberty itself are not welcome here. Accounts registered here by liberal progressives and other assorted trolls, malcontents and disruptors will be removed on sight or at the convenience of the site administrators.
The site came under fire from Ross Abraham, a blogger for Mitt Romney Central, who wrote today that Free Republic is just one of several sites (along with RedState, he says) on the right-wing Internet that are pretty much off limits to Mitt Romney's supporters.

Screw Politico and screw Mitt Romney.
I will be.
Hear, hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is Mr. Robinson’s site. Therefore, he gets to set the rules for posting on it. Those whose disagree with the freerepublic policy are free to start their own websites and post whatever they wish. That’s called freedom and competition.
OooRah! Jim Thompson is THE MAN!!!
Look, Free Republic is a PRIVATE SITE. Jim can allow or disallow ANY kind of post(s) he likes.
Frankly, I think he is pretty tolerant. I supported Mitt and Fred Thompson in the last cycle...but never really advocated for them, because I wasn’t totally SOLD.
I think what JR doesn’t like is advocacy, especially of Mitt. He even has a “Mitt Romney Truth File”.
This cycle, frankly, I am undecided. And while I know Jim’s position isn’t “undecided”, I appreciate him allowing the discussion of the issues from a wide variety of candidates in the Republican party.
If it was Romney or Obama I suppose I would swallow 3 times hard and vote for Romney. Then go home and take a hot 3 hour shower.
I won’t criticize anyone who could not do it.
Romney is an absolute nightmare. If it’s Romney vs Obama, I may sit this one out!
>>>Screw Politico and screw Mitt Romney.
no thanks. they’re more than welcome to screw themselves. or each other.
Anti-Mormon bigotry? I'm here virtually every day and I have not seen it.
Politico is supporting Willard because they know he will continue Obamacare and other policies of the present “regime”.
Poor Willard! He’s been campaigning since 2008, spent a pile of his own (and others’) cash, and is getting whipped by a CONSERVATIVE.
Just DANG!
As was clear during abortive Republican investigations into various Clinton scandals, in the culture of impunity of Washington, politics stops at corruption's edge. Almost all major corruption is either bipartisan or common enough that one side can effectively blackmail the other.
It's up to us to make sure that phony is NOT our nominee! Let's eliminate that choice.
{YAWN}
Oh Noes! Now Politico doesn’t like FR either?
Mitt and Obama...two peas in a pod.
Romney may wage war on individual freedom, liberty and conservative values. I say “bring it on!!!”
