Should we cut off benefits to those families entirely? That’s a poser. And what about the children born here? Are they citizens or not. I’ve read opinions both ways.,

They are citizens thru jus solis i.e., birthright citizenship. They are issued passports and have all the rights and privileges of any citizen of this country. Congress would have to pass a law to change it and if it fails to pass constitutional muster, we would have to pass a Constitutional amendment. Scholars differ on what would be needed to change the current practice that is part of US Code.

That looks similar to the study I read.

I was merciful enough not to post the whole thing, though.

(hah)

Perhaps the entire welfare system needs to be revamped considering the fact that the so-called poor are not any poorer than the household I grew up in long ago in which nobody would have dreamed of expecting any sort of federal assistance.

Daughter uses bandwidth from a neighbor

If she doesn't have permission, she is stealing.

It seems Huntsman referred to him as a
“well lubricated weather-vane on the issues.”

OUCH!......
**RUB / RUB**
That's gonna leave a big mark.

I live in bear country.

Folks here learn quickly that if you allow bears to eat food intended for humans on your property, whether it’s fallen fruit or thrown away food scraps, not only will they press ever closer to your house, they will return next year with their cubs!

Don’t feed the fracking bears! Is that so hard to figure out?

I don’t know who or how they managed to make smoking a sin.

Someone on FR (I forget who) suggested that the change came when the tobacco-producing states went Republican! Back in the Solid (Democrat) South days, tobacco company money went to Democrat politicians!

It’s petty theft though. Or is that pretty theft.

All the neighbor has to do is protect her connection.

I have an open connection and my next-door neighbor always used my bandwidth ... our computers were pretty close together. She laughed about it and so did I.

Believe me, she did enough for me so that I could spare her a little bandwidth.

...David Gregory reading a quote of how Steve jobs distorted reality by being arguments to meet his plans, along with a mention that “this made schedules hard to meet” or something along those lines. Then Davey made a comment that we need a leader like that in DC to get things done.

A distorted reality which led him to chase a false cure for his cancer when a surgical cure could have save his life? It does bare some resemblance to the type of leadership we are getting from our current president, chasing false solutions to our economic woes. But then, I think Obama wants the US to die.

The costs must be huge. FAIR estimates that illegals cost us $113 billion a year just for education, health care, and incarceration. I know they are much higher when you throw in fraud. And the presence of illegals impacts on the drawing of congressional districts and the allocation of federal money. For example, California would have fewer congressional seats if we eliminated illegals and LPRs from the count.

I didn’t post the entire study. You should read it. Can you provide the link to your study? I would be interested in reading it since I spend my time lobbying on the Hill and in Richmond on the immigration issue.

NBC is about to go off cliff's edge. While traveling for a couple of weeks, I viewed more NBC than usual and have noted such propaganda spewing from Brian Williams mouth, it's almost unbelievable.

I wonder if Williams actually believes that crap he spews and perhaps wants to distance himself from the propaganda machine that is NBC (owned by GE, in bed with Obie). He's debuting a prime-time show this week. He hosted Today Friday, perhaps to plug his show, or maybe to further shift his image away from the 'spewer of lies" image on Nightly News.

You are correct, it is a full court press for Obama. I can't imagine how Williams sleeps at night. I give him more credit, so I hope he's losing debates with his producers who clearly have an agenda and instructions from the top floors of 30 Rock. Jeez....WAPO "journalists" appearing as experts, lying ,covering, omitting to help Obie.

When I was a child, smokers were everywhere. People smoked on airplanes, in college lecture halls, in grocery stores as they shopped, in offices, in government buildings.

I live in a small town (14K), small apartment complex (20 units). The complex mainly has older folk (like me) who seem to be more permanent residents and young 20-ish couples who typically stay a few months and then move out.

The one startling thing I have noticed with the young couples is that most of them (male and female) are smokers. PSA's bashing smokers started in the mid 80s. Apparently, the PSA's are not working any more. And that huge extortion 'tobacco settlement' money is not paying for the right kind of no-smoking educational programs.

I quit smoking in early 2003, mainly because of the cost. I wonder how this young couple manage to afford the habit. When I quit, a carton was about $40 and I was smoking 3 a month. I think the cost is now about $70/carton.

Newt: He shows how drilling our own crude solves the balance of payments, unemployment, money to govt. problems and quickly. Lets hope its adopted at some point before its too late.

I thank my lucky stars that there IS a solution to our economic problems. Perry seems almost as strong on this as Newt, and suspect Perry may well win the nomination because of it.

The way I look at campaigns is that they tell us what they would like to see happen in an ideal world. That tells me what is in their heart and mind, what their values are, what their philosophies are, what they would fight for or against.

Well, I agree with this. And Cain, Perry and Bachmann have all said they want to RAISE my taxes if they can. I’m not voting for that.

LOL! Had some just yesterday. Yum. And the BEST thing was, there was no 9 percent federal surtax on them.

Because until your reform the tax code and broadenthe tax base so
everyone has skin in the game spending guts are always temporary.

Good point...of course...
his (Cain) problem is...any preconceived cost cutting
is going raise questions..."about his heartlessness"
Cain's retort: "Where's is this; in the US Constitution..
we don't have the $$$$"

Sorry, I don’t remember, but the charts and graphs you posted looked familiar.

I’m sure I didn’t study it as closely as you did.

So, since you are actually involved, what do you propose doing?

Cutting off all benefits to illegals unless they have children who are citizens?

I think we should seriously study all benefit programs. There is surely much waste and fraud.

Additionally, the RATs have painted the budget into such a corner that some obvious and necessary cuts (SS) are real complicated and would take a phase-in as we have heard in the past. (Bush’s meager modification called “privatizing sosh-security)

Try playing the budget cutting game yourself...search “Budget Hero”

Just 4 years ago the budget was about $1 trillion less than now. It CAN be done—’cause it already has been.

That said, my dispute is with a gaggle of Repuke wannabe monkeys who are running on a “my tax plan is better” platform that basically raises taxes on me and many others though I really care MUCH more about me.

You never hear anyone mention the billions of kickback grants to phony “green energy” companies or corn growers or the millions pissed away buying .50 cals and grenades for Mexican invaders or the garbage political correct programs that infect every agency INCLUDING DOD which is stinking fat with tail to tooth, etc.

There’s plenty that can be cut—just start with every bogus regulation wielded by agencies, sell Fannie and Freddie off for a $1 and get out of the mortgage biz, close down student loans for which there is NO constitutional paltform, etc etc etc.

Cut cut cut cut cut.

The only monkey among the chimps talking cut cut cut cut is Ron Paul. He’s a screwy little dude who doesn’t care whether anyone likes him or not. I’ve always semi-disliked the guy myself but he’s the only conservative running at this point. If I had to vote for one of these characters it would be Paul

I’m a frickin’ Paulbot now. Stop trying to reason with me.
