The editors at Red State and Free Republic (among others) have had the wool pulled over their eyes. They seem to actually believe the lies originally propagated by supporters of President Obama and, in some cases, even by President Obama himself. Now, for some reason, these editors/moderators are so insecure in their prejudice against Gov. Romney that they ban people who openly support Gov. Romney. Free Republic (mostly because of its owner Jim Robinson) has purged all of the Romney supporters they could from the site in two waves of purges over the last few years. The anti-Romney and anti-Mormon bigotry evident at Free Republic now is absolutely sickening.
I havent been to Free Republic quite as much as I used to partly because I have been banned from posting. During the 2008 election, Mitt was accepted and lauded by many at Free Republic like he was by most conservatives. One of the best summaries of Gov. Romneys accomplishments was actually from Free Republic. However, Jim Robinson seemingly fell in love with Sarah Palin and initiated purges of anyone who wouldnt pledge allegiance to her. A few months back, I tried to make a new account and see if I could post about Gov. Romneys jobs plan and I was promptly banned and called a few derogatory names implying that I was a Mormon. Besides the fact that I am not Mormon, I cant for the life of me figure out how a site like that, filled with such hate, can find enough donors to keep it going. When I think of Free Republic, Im reminded of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke is warned that he is entering A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany.
Red State has been fairly hostile to Gov. Romney for awhile, but they have crossed into new lows now as well. The guys from WhyRomney.com [3] have been working very hard and diligently to refute some of the many misconceptions about Gov. Romney, and I hope this unfortunate episode wont dissuade them or anyone else from trying to correct the people endlessly smearing Gov. Romney. What so many of these people who dont like Gov. Romney dont seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks. Its abundantly clear now, no matter what Rush Limbaugh says [4], that President Obama is scared to death of facing Mitt Romney [5] in the general election.
If you want to check out the three open letters posted to Red State, you can read the one on mandates and health care here [6], the one about abortion here [7], and the final one on miscellaneous issues here [8] unless Red State removes the posts now that they have cowardly banned the authors of the letters. Also, Ive saved a screen shot of the admin belittling the efforts of our friends from WhyRomney [9] and giving his/her bogus reason for banning them which you can read here [10] just in case the admin tries to cover his/her tracks in shame. If you want to see how rude Free Republic is without actually subjecting yourself to the hate, just click here [11] for a screen shot of the reason they banned the author of a similar open letter.
I know there are bastions of bigotry against Mormons on other sites besides Free Republic and that Free Republic and Red State arent the only sites that have ever banned people they disagreed with, but Ive concluded that they are the grandparents of this anti-Romney crusade that fortunately seems destined to fail. Some other sites seem predisposed against supporting Mitt, but not at the dangerous level of these two.
The motives of people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh [12] to not want Gov. Mitt Romney to be the GOP nominee are easy to understand (hint: they make more money with President Obama in the White House), but I believe many other sites and conservatives are simply following their lead reinforced by the disingenuous people at Red State and the sheltered leader of Free Republic. Most other conservative sites that support candidates other than Mitt at least vow to support Mitt if he is the nominee, but I worry about what is festering at Free Republic and now, Red State. Once our nominee is selected, we will need all hands on deck to defeat President Obama. The members of these two sites should realize how detrimental the actions of their leaders may end up being to the ultimate cause of making President Obama a one-term President. I hope they will ask for their leaders to act in a more responsible fashion.
WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC!
NOTE: FR's "editor" (namely, me) is not shy about stating FR's conservative principles, purposes and goals or about stating why liberal progressive RINOS are not acceptable on FR and so adds the following links for reference:

The truth about Romney straight from HIS progressive big mouth
--Jim Robinson
Stopped once and for all, otherwise he will keep coming back like a vampire every 4 years.
Figured he would have been jeered at like Ceausescu was at his last speech in derision by a crowd of consevatives by this point, guess it could still happen.
Hey, the guy does have a talent. He can switch his position on a critical issue faster than the Millenium Falcon on the "Kessel Run"....
It's amazing the man doesn't have permanent whiplash.
Not regarding a socialist.
Stop him this time and he will be disgraced.
When he returns, he can return under the democrat side of the aisle where he belongs.
I’m not against Romney, but i do have a problem with those who presume hes going to win, and that hes the only one who can beat Obama. Such people stink of northern arrogance, and are a real turn off.
They make a man feel concerned between two unfavorable options.
Well there is a 3rd option separation, and that is an option that will become all the more appealing as the left becomes all the more despotic. Unfortunately to achieve a separation we will need to get our ducks in a row. We will probably have to help the left crash the Federal army, navy, and air-force, while at the same time encourage them to disarm their own people at home.
It is a long term goal that must be presuid with casuion and due delgent recognition of what happened the last time it was tried while there was a tyrant at the helm with much less preparation.
Fortunately 150 years later the nature of the battle field oweing both to technology and cultural attitudes has changed in the respects of dramatically empowering a minority while disarming the prospective enemy. Simply put we don’t need a larger army, manufacturing base to win anymore, Indeed we don’t even need to fire a shot if we uses our heads.
Yes the enemy will be, given time, even more desperate to keep us, but they will also recognize the costs of enslavement would be most of their lives.
Why fight to keep a slave if you won’t be around to rule & impose upon them?
The point is not to argue for separation but to point out it is possible if things keep getting worse, and thus we ultimately have a 3rd option even if we only do have 2 viable paths for immediate victory.
Victory today is only helpful if we are to preserve the union with theses leftist scumbags. That goal is in itself somewhat questionable in its merits. Is it worth fighting to condemn our children to fight the same political fight against the same morally repugnant big goverment leftist ideology we have been fighting unsuccessfully for the last 100+ years?
Or might we be better off to simply separate, if not in the partal independents of states designed to mitigate the problem by allowing easy exile and segregation of the political population, then (if they force it) full Independence?
Its something to think about, is it really worth compromising a parshal victory that will only prolong this political war? Or should we go for full victory either by means election or separation instead?
Saundra Duffy, every 4 years like clockwork to push the idea that mittens is a conservative savior or the like.
There must be a bloodline or something equal to it..
0bama understands him well...like a brother, is why.
0bama doesn't want to lose his talking points to Mittens.
I wish Newt didn't have so much baggage...I think he MIGHT be an excellent POTUS, and compared to the present resident his baggage pales...except the little snit over having to leave Air Force 1 by the back door...Clinton baited him there.
I won't support if he ends up the nominee[Which I believe that he will], nor will I vote for him.
mark
I pretty much stopped watching Fox as all they seem to do is discredit Herman Cain and praise Romney as the second coming. The worst was O'Reilly trying to state Cain only has 6 employees.
First off that is BS as I have a friend who works for him. Secondly, does good old Bill realize that Cain has thousands of thousands of volunteers, say, like those of us here on Free Republic, who have been out getting petitions signed in our various states, and telling our neighbors, friends and family about Herman Cain!!!
I don't have many liberal friends, and all of my conservative friends solidly support Cain! Not one person I am associated with supports Romney. And I live in the Soviet State of Illinois, ground zero for Obamaites.
BTW do you guys realize now that instead of giving us Romney's positions this is the new line, "Well I guess you support Obama (or Ron Paul)". And then they complain about this website and call us nazis, communists, censors, ect... because we don't like RINOs. They can't give us a single issue Romney is conservative on. It is all smoke and mirrors, and they've found their latest tactic, we are now all "anti-Mormon bigots"!!!
Just like the dems calling us tea partiers racist even though we all support Cain who is black, but we are still racist according to them.
I'd say to them that they are merely providing me entertainment now. I enjoy Zot threads, thank you once again to TheOldLady for pinging me to those threads, I love Viking Kitties and lightning.
Everytime I think about Newt, I picture him and Pelosi setting on a couch holding hands and spouting mademade global warming crap. No Newt for me.
Mitt’s best gem of all, was in the SC debates in 2008, when he cut over Fred Thompson, saying ‘I like mandates, mandates work!’ Every single fantasy people might have about Romney seeing the light, becoming conservative, etc, is out the window with that statement - he wants big government, big rules, and if elected, it’s exactly what he’s going to give the US.
Didn't lnow supporting a candidate on FR was......trolling.....fair enough. I'm a Cain and Perry supporter...am I a troll as well?
Saundra,
Anyone who can be elected in the EU style hell hole known as Boston is in no way a conservative or even a Republican.
I don’t hate either one..I hate Obama’s socialist/communist ideology and the harm he has done to this nation and I hate that Romney waffles and flip flops.
.I don’t trust his conservative speech. I don’t like Romneycare or Obamacare.
Romney is too far left for me.
Shove it RINOs!
Herman Cain will soon tire of Rove and deal with him in his own manner. Perhaps as soon as his appearance on BOR’s this coming Tuesday.
Rove's days as the architect are over, Rover. He's reduced to a babbling Dick Morris clone, although he has his American Crossroads’ RINO Fund, so he still wields money for the RINO candidates, whilst withholding funds for conservatives.
Fact: Mitt Romney supports homo activists in their war against the Boy Scouts.
Starting during the Clinton Administration (does the name Roberta Achtenberg ring a bell?) the Boy Scouts came under relentless fire by the Democrats and their newsrooms for rejecting the idea that they, the Boy Scouts of America, should welcome homosexual scout leaders into the organization and let them take little boys off into the woods. Boy Scouts leaders didn’t think this was such a good idea. Naturally, Massachusetts Mittens sided with the homo activists.
Below are a couple of columns from 10 and 12 years ago about the Boy Scouts being turned away by Mitt Romney and the Olympics Committee for volunteer work on the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts had been very active and high profile at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and were looking forward to participating once again. But the Boy Scouts had just won an important Supreme Court case (in June 2000 the Supreme Court ruled that the BSA was a private organization that could choose whoever they wanted as scout leaders and could therefore reject sodomites) and the Democrats/homos were still mighty ticked off about it. Massachusetts Mittens could always be counted on to pander to homo activists, of course, so he gladly came up with a lame lie of an excuse for turning the Boy Scouts away from the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts’ disappointment was palpable, and Mitt Romney never returned their calls.
