I agree with the taxes you list, although many of those are state and local taxes that would remain unaffected by 9-9-9, the question was whether or not the business income tax functioned as a VAT. I think the way it is currently structured, it appears it functions as one. You can argue that this is better than the current, byzantine tax code, but you can’t argue it isn’t what it is.

I like “Major League” (also with Chazz), the sequels are terrible though.

And my old childhood favorite “The Sandlot”.

I also liked “Rookie of the Year” when I was a kid. Upon seeing it as an adult though I realized it was a horrendous piece of crap.

It’s not his Mormanism. It’s his liberalism. You can call it “hate” if that makes you feel better. But frankly, I don’t have much “feeling” about Romney one way or the other. He kind of glides thru without making much of an impression on me beyond the surface polish.

What I do hate is that the R establishemnt is going to cram yet another liberal down our throats after doing it in ‘88, ‘92, ‘96, ‘00, ‘04, and ‘08. They are doing it again.

Reagan was the last opportunity us older ones had to even vote for a conservative for president. A whole generation of young conservatives has NEVER had the chance to vote for a conservative for president.

That’s not the Democrats fault. It’s the GOP’s fault. The money in the GOP fears and hates conservatives. Bad for business and all that plus, they’re not sophisticated like us—so neanderthal with all that Bible and flag stuff. It’s that simple. I’ve been on the inside and I can tell you that is true and the way it works.

The only guys that get out of the primaries are the ones Karl Rove (or his like in the state parties) knows will play ball and not rock the boat (regardless what the candidate says to the voters). They will keep the nanny state expanding, not interfere with the alphabet agency power, keep the illegals flowing across the border, keep the cronyism going, etc etc. If a conservative bucks that and wins the primary, he is usually villified by the GOP establishment and is pretty much on his own financially in the general election.

My only difference with Romney “haters” is that I don’t blame Mitt. He’s just fulfilling his silver spoon destiny to be the next progressive technocrat president and advance the state’s glory. I blame the guys who run the GOP.

I don’t see why you cannot see Romney is the next guy in a sorry chain of GOP nominees. It is obvious to all but the willfully blind.

I think you have to be a fan of baseball to appreciate films like that. I’ve never gotten much into sports (save for a brief foray into tennis 2 decades ago, which had more to do with watching women), so I’ve never understood the obsession with it.

Yes, the first Major League was good.

The Sandlot, also good.

Rookie of the Year: Ehhh. Not that bad.

Women’s tennis: You beast!

Baseball on TV can be very boring. Throw in the amount of ads (like the NFL, it’s worse than ever this year, which is why I’m not watching much), the attitude of many of the players, and yes, it’s easy not to be a fan of sports.

Myself and many others have made it so plain to the Republican Party that if they insist in putting another RINO on the ticket, they will not get our vote. Yet they continue to push and support Rommney. Either they do not believe us or they don't give a damn. If they decide they want another RINO on the ticket, fine. I just won't vote for them.

At the close of the Republican Convention, you will be able to tell if obama gets a second term or not. If the Republican Party has a RINO as its standard bearer, obama is guranteed a second term. Without campaigning. The choice is theirs.

I suggest making a checklist of the most important conservative values and then determining which candidate meets those values.

Assigning the RINO label to a candidate is frequently based on a single issue that’s NOT among the top 4 or 5 conservative values.

I absolutely love Field of Dreams. I think it’s right up there with Raging Bull, Hoosiers, Rocky, and Bang the Drum Slowly (an early ‘70s film with Michael Moriarty and Robert DeNiro about a baseball player diagnosed with cancer) among the best sports films of all time.

Eight Men Out is good, too, and the original Major League was fun (albeit not as good as Bull Durham). I never cared much for The Sandlot. Rookie of the Year was an abomination (”horrendous piece of crap” does not do it justice); my brother liked “Little Big League” (about the pre-teen who manages a major-league team) and I used to think that he was talking about Rookie of the Year, but it’s a different (and far better) film.

IMHO, Raging Bull is one of if not the greatest film of all time, sports or no sports.

DeNiro is a flaming leftist, but he was phenomenal in that one (The Deer Hunter too).

Oh, I see. Then manufacturers and small businesses will be exempt from the nine percent tax when they pay for materials? Or will they just be prohibited from passing the extra cost along to the consumer? Smart bears or fuzzy math?
