Red State and Free Republic Declare War on Mitt Romney Supporters for Some Reason [JR post 132]

The editors at Red State and Free Republic (among others) have had the wool pulled over their eyes. They seem to actually believe the lies originally propagated by supporters of President Obama and, in some cases, even by President Obama himself. Now, for some reason, these editors/moderators are so insecure in their prejudice against Gov. Romney that they ban people who openly support Gov. Romney. Free Republic (mostly because of it’s owner Jim Robinson) has purged all of the Romney supporters they could from the site in two waves of purges over the last few years. The anti-Romney and anti-Mormon bigotry evident at Free Republic now is absolutely sickening.

I haven’t been to Free Republic quite as much as I used to partly because I have been banned from posting. During the 2008 election, Mitt was accepted and lauded by many at Free Republic like he was by most conservatives. One of the best summaries of Gov. Romney’s accomplishments was actually from Free Republic. However, Jim Robinson seemingly fell in love with Sarah Palin and initiated purges of anyone who wouldn’t pledge allegiance to her. A few months back, I tried to make a new account and see if I could post about Gov. Romney’s jobs plan and I was promptly banned and called a few derogatory names implying that I was a Mormon. Besides the fact that I am not Mormon, I can’t for the life of me figure out how a site like that, filled with such hate, can find enough donors to keep it going. When I think of Free Republic, I’m reminded of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke is warned that he is entering “A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany”.

Red State has been fairly hostile to Gov. Romney for awhile, but they have crossed into new lows now as well. The guys from WhyRomney.com [3] have been working very hard and diligently to refute some of the many misconceptions about Gov. Romney, and I hope this unfortunate episode won’t dissuade them or anyone else from trying to correct the people endlessly smearing Gov. Romney. What so many of these people who don’t like Gov. Romney don’t seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks. It’s abundantly clear now, no matter what Rush Limbaugh says [4], that President Obama is scared to death of facing Mitt Romney [5] in the general election.

Also, I’ve saved a screen shot of the admin belittling the efforts of our friends from WhyRomney [9] and giving his/her bogus reason for banning them which you can read here [10] just in case the admin tries to cover his/her tracks in shame. I know there are bastions of bigotry against Mormons on other sites besides Free Republic and that Free Republic and Red State aren’t the only sites that have ever banned people they disagreed with, but I’ve concluded that they are the grandparents of this anti-Romney crusade that fortunately seems destined to fail. Some other sites seem predisposed against supporting Mitt, but not at the dangerous level of these two.

The motives of people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh [12] to not want Gov. Mitt Romney to be the GOP nominee are easy to understand (hint: they make more money with President Obama in the White House), but I believe many other sites and conservatives are simply following their lead reinforced by the disingenuous people at Red State and the sheltered leader of Free Republic. Most other conservative sites that support candidates other than Mitt at least vow to support Mitt if he is the nominee, but I worry about what is festering at Free Republic and now, Red State. Once our nominee is selected, we will need all hands on deck to defeat President Obama. The members of these two sites should realize how detrimental the actions of their leaders may end up being to the ultimate cause of making President Obama a one-term President. I hope they will ask for their leaders to act in a more responsible fashion.

Thank you for your forthright post to S Duffy regarding RINO Romney. Every word you said to her is true.

No Saundra... we will skip voting for EITHER LIBERAL candidate and leave that spot on the ballot BLANK and vote for CONSERVATIVE Republicans on the remainder of the ticket. If there are RINO Republicans, like Romney running for office on the lower offices, THOSE SPOTS ON TE BALLOT WILL ALSO BE LEFT B L A N K AS WELL.

The message the GOP needs to get loud and clear is this: We are THROUGH voting for the "lesser of TWO EVILS". We are THROUGH voting for RINOS. We are THROUGH towing the "party line" and throwing our support to LOSERS like McCain, Dole, etc... because the party says it is their turn and everyone had better get in line and support them or "Obama will get reelected". Guess what? We DON'T CARE anymore. If Obama gets reelected because the GOP is stupid enough to try and foist the liberal, stand for nothing, flip-flopping RINO Romney on the American people then they will LOSE the next presidential election and it will be the GOP's fault.

One more thing: Everything Mr. Robinson said about M R is true and on top of that, the guy is a CULT leader, he is a Temple Mormon and believes he is going to become the "god" of his own planet and that his wife is going to pump out "spirit children" like the queen Alien from Aliens in order to populate god Romney's planet with "spirit children" so that they can believe in, follow and WORSHIP him! That is what Mormonism teaches and that is what Romney believes with all his heart. That is heresy and that alone totally disqualifies him from being president.

Free Republic is not a 'communist country' SD. That fact that JR has allowed you to spout off so much so far is evidence that you whine is not factual.

However, you forget that this is also JR's house, and it is not nice to spit on its owner so glibly.

If liberal progressive RINO Myth Romney is the GOP nominee, I won’t leave the spot blank. I’ll either vote for the strongest third party conservative on the ballot if there is one or write in the name of the strongest conservative TEA party person I can find. You betcha!

I don’t hate Romney and I don’t care what his religion is, I just don’t want him to get the nomination because he is not conservative and I think he will continue the globalist agenda.

Furthermore, I have not pledged allegiance to Sarah Palin. I like her but I am not sure I want her president either. I always speak my mind here, even with concerns about Palin and have never been banned or censured. There are quite adelicious few Romneybots on here that post freely. I think the moderation here is excellent. If this poster got banned, I imagine there were personal attacks and spam involved and not simply for promoting Romney.

I live in Michigan. I live about 30 miles from Mitt Romney's home. I won't speak for JimRob, but I'll speak for myself, first addressing the points here, and late my own problems. I personally don't give a damn what his religion is. I have no problems with Mormons, although I don't believe in the same thing they believe in.

Most opposed "Rudy McRomney" I didn't support Mitt. I protest voted for Ron Paul, but I was strongly against Mitt, even more than I was for McCain. Most conservatives who supported Mitt was because not of who he was, but who he was not. McCain.

Why is Obama scared of Romney? Dude. Romney lost to John McCain. John McCain. This was before now. He also can not close a sale. If you look at the money Romney has combined with his organizational skills, there is no reason why he should now have wrapped everything up. However, he's not breaking through in the polls. Flawed candidates are beating him in the polls. Bachmann. She drops heavily. Perry rises. He drops heavily. Cain's now rising. Romney stays the same. He's a very good campaigner except for one major aspect of the campaign. The candidate himself.

I am undecided outside of no Romney. I will vote for Cain, Perry, Paul, or Huntsman before Romney. Yes, Jon Huntsman is better than Romney. Romney's biggest problem is not that he is liberal. His problem is that he is a phony. He's the Republican John Kerry. He's an out of touch Cranbrook rich elitist son of an executive who does not understand real people. He was pro-abortion...until he ran for president. He was pro-gay....until he ran for president. He's anti-gun and signed a ban.Still is. Romney care. Tax increases. Regulations. Why the hell would I vote for that?

He also gaffes as much as Cain. "Corporations are people too." "I'm also unemployed." Yes, I know the Corporations are people legal arguments, but that is a dumb thing to say. He also strapped his dog and his cage to the top of his car and drove it cross country.

I got none of that from "Rush Limbaugh" or whatever the dumbassed talking point the left says we get our information from either. That's Mitt's record. I don't care what a politician says. I care what he's done. Mitt's ideology is just to be president.

A good friend of mine is a political consultant here in Michigan. He also runs a blog and is very anti-Mitt as I am. He said it best. "I know what I'm going to get from Perry, Cain, or Huntsman."

The bottom line is that Mitt Romney is not trustworthy enough for the job.

Romney is just not LIKABLE. Period. Regardless of his views, the candidate who is the most likable will be elected. A lot of people theorize that Romney is the most electable because he's moderate and comes across as intelligent, but he doesn't inspire anybody to be passionate about him. I'm an independent, conservative on most issues, not conservative on some. But even I don't like his shifty demeanor, a dull robot man. I don't think he'll do as well with independents as people think.

I think Perry (or Cain) will actually do better with independents because they stand for something. People respect strength, even if the views are not 100% in line with personal beliefs.

I wouldn't say it is spirutual, but it is ideological. RINOs do more damage overall than democrats. They damage the state/country and the party, and then lead to democrat rule.

Right now I'm dealing with Rick Snyder who is raising taxes. With "republicans" like him or Romney, who needs democrats.

There’s a big, immediate ramping up of experienced staff from a primary to general election, and it is quite credible that that’s where lots of MittWitts went, and that Palin sabotage is a lot of what they did.

That’s probably true. Mitt was supposed to be “the guy” in 08. He was the establishment choice. They hated McCain as much as we did.

Does anyone believe that Mitt Romney would deliver this?? The mainstream media is trying to do the Lucy/Charlie Brown/football play again - they praised McCain for his "maverick" stance but then turned savagely against him in the election, even going so far as to push the "Obama is post-partisan" theme. They are trying to use the same play with Romney - we aren't hearing squat about his religion, business background, or Romneycare, but they will be used as weapons in a general election. No more RINOs!!! Since we know that the Republican nominee is going to be savaged by the mainstream media, how about getting one who is actually a conservative. Romney isn't that guy.
