Rick Perry’s new economic plan won’t revive his campaign
WaPo ^ | 10/25/2011 | Ed Rogers

The best thing that can be said about Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s economic plan and its Tuesday rollout speech is that before now, he didn’t have a plan, and now he does. He can check that box. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, and, as a good Republican, I support everything he said. The problem is, we have supported it all before. Our voters want and appreciate creativity. This didn’t offer much in the way of anything new. This program is Steve Forbes-lite. But it is what it is. Now he has to stick with it. “Cut, Balance, and Grow” is a good slogan, but this plan will only be a net plus for Perry if, over the next few weeks, he can recall and defend the details on live TV with smart, semi-hostile reporters asking the questions.

From behind the podium, Perry looks great. He looks so much like a Hollywood-produced president, he makes Mitt Romney look grunge. But Perry’s speaking style Tuesday was not reassuring. He appeared to wander at times, and he had the occasional aside that didn’t fit the speech very well. I couldn’t tell if he was using a teleprompter. If he wasn’t, he needs one. If he was, he needs to practice with it.

Whether or not Cain’s plan is ever enacted really has to do with how much We The People push for it and how much We The People work to send people to D.C. who will vote WITH a President Cain, not against him.

I wouldn’t give up on it at this point.

OBTW it is not revenue neutral.
It's not intended to be. Why should it be?

I am just pointing out that we need to recapture the senate if we are to effect real change.

That’s the good news: we are showing that the push for major tax reform is real. As Steve Forbes said, “The nightmare on Main Street is about to be over.”

In my view, Cain’s plan has some flaws, but I can’t say I’d call them “serious.” More like “normal.” As in, the normal types of issues that have to be hashed out a little more during the political/legislative process.

But viewing 999 in terms of principle — specifically the principles of the Laffer Curve — I couldn’t be happier with it. It fires on all counts. IOW, it’s got the principles correct and it needs a little tweaking on implementing them.

But I don’t see the correct principles in the Perry plan. For one thing, anything optional is not bold. But my real objections to it, I already told you. So won’t repeat! :)

Yup.
The good news is now we are having a national discussion on tax reform.

“Running” a state government which has been in existence for over a century, and which does not need to make a profit, is not in any way comparable to running business. Rick Perry’s problem is that he has never had any real career outside of politics, and we should all know by now what the career politicians have done to this country. They only want to win the next election, and they will do so by pandering to Mexican invaders, or Muslim scum, to Merck, or to any other special interest.

I agree. That statement exposed Perry's feelings and he still feels illegals should get special perks.

Allegedly he made another stupid comment - that he is against anyone who changes his positions. Thus, expect him to stand by his "heartless" comment.

There are numerous times where a politician needs to change his positions - such as when situations change, when he/she realizes he was mistaken, when voters put pressure on him to deport illegal aliens.

I'm not a big Rush fan, never was. His opinion is his own.

I am a fan of this man and would agree with his take on Perry far sooner than I would with that of Rush.

If he get’s ahead of Cain, Wapo will love him, cuz then they’ll have an inarticulate dummy that Obama can beat with a little help from his teleprompter.

Rush loves insiders, but his audience doesn’t, so he is in a hard spot for now; his audience strongly favors Cain, and the party wants an insider like Perry or Romney.

Perry’s Big Pharma backing may help him yet.

>> “Like Cain distanced himself from that naggerhead thing?” <<

.
Cain never brought that up in the first place; it was the mediots, and he just answered frankly in the manner that any black conservative would answer the twisted question that he was asked.

Then it wasn’t Perry that you were listening to. He is not intelligent by any stretch.

.
That is why I’m not particularly worried about Cain’s 999; that will never get passed congress or the mediots.

My, even a total Perrywinkle like you should know that’s an absolute lie.

He threw no bomb; he only answered questions that were put to him.

You’re obviously a liberal statist.

Tax increases kill jobs and economies.

I call this Santa Claus time. Everybody gets a tax cut (or stays the same) unlike with that mean-hearted Grinch Cain who proposed a flat tax that he got beat up for. Imagine Perry in the debate :”My tax is better than yours because everyone makes out”, Merry Christmas Santa

And Cain was going to sales tax those illegals just like Texas does, mean, mean, mean, LOL

Those paying attention will know what happens to tax cuts that score positive deficits by the CBO based on congressional rules.

That's all cool and as it should be. Mark Levin, who hasn't been enthused with Perry's campaign, says Rick Perry has come up with one hell of a proposal and that it could give his campaign legs.

Not influenced by the words of Levin either. You keep posting theses things as if you think I should be. Why?
