The best thing that can be said about Texas Gov. Rick Perrys economic plan and its Tuesday rollout speech is that before now, he didnt have a plan, and now he does. He can check that box. There wasnt anything wrong with it, and, as a good Republican, I support everything he said. The problem is, we have supported it all before. Our voters want and appreciate creativity. This didnt offer much in the way of anything new. This program is Steve Forbes-lite. But it is what it is. Now he has to stick with it. Cut, Balance, and Grow is a good slogan, but this plan will only be a net plus for Perry if, over the next few weeks, he can recall and defend the details on live TV with smart, semi-hostile reporters asking the questions.
From behind the podium, Perry looks great. He looks so much like a Hollywood-produced president, he makes Mitt Romney look grunge. But Perrys speaking style Tuesday was not reassuring. He appeared to wander at times, and he had the occasional aside that didnt fit the speech very well. I couldnt tell if he was using a teleprompter. If he wasnt, he needs one. If he was, he needs to practice with it.

Yes, I am serious that I do not know about all the allegations made against Perry. If I knew everything like some people apparently do, I would not be reading these threads to learn more. I am not from Texas and I have enough to do keeping up with what is happening in my own state.
I notice that you have started a few of your posts with the comment, Are you serious? then you make a reference to God; such as, My God.. Do you feel contempt for people who you don't consider as informed as yourself? Why would I be following how Rick Perry governs in Texas when it has not affected me or my state - nor made the national news? I am still learning about him, and while uncertain if I will support him, I most certainly will support him over Romney, Obama, and a few others.
Almost the entire Texas legislature including almost all Republicans enthusiastically supported it. Are you saying the Texas legislature is for amnesty?
Just about all the Republicans who voted for it were re-elected, as was Perry. Are you saying the people of Texas are for amnesty?
His pandering to La Raza, and yes he did pander to them.
He told La Raza he was against an open border
Regarding SB 1070, you know that Texas and Perry filed an amicus brief in support of it, right?
That aside, his overwhelming love for illegals did him in. When he said 'Heartless' he meant it. Ditto for when he implied conservatives were bigots for not kissing illegals butt's as he likes to do.
He could promise that he'd give everyone Five Weapons of their choice for 'free' so we could exercise our 2nd Amendment Rights and I still wouldn't vote for him. Not even if he threw in a Pony.
The guy is over, toast, stick-a-fork-in-him, DONE. Plus he's a certified DUNCE.
I watched the whole La Raza speech, he says a couple of good things (after pandering to them for quite a few minutes), but you still haven't explained why a so called conservative is going to a racist organization, and giving a speech to them, a group that wants to reconquer the US through illegal immigration and bolstering only one race. Go ahead explain this.
Maybe it's because the National Council of La Raza doesn't want to do that. MEChA is the group that pushes for Aztlan and racial exclusion.
All of our last four presidents have addressed The National Council of La Raza, btw.
If this group speaks for a lot of people in Texas it probably is best that Perry doesn't give them the cold shoulder.
And if Perry is going to go tell them that he is against an open border, what is wrong with that?
>> “Why do you assume that we are not powerful enough to get it passed?” <<
.
Its not power.
No small business owner is going to sit still and see a national sales tax pass without a huge fight. NST is a massive job killer. The chamber of commerce will dedicate millions to defeat any NST.
If I thought that it had any chance of passing, I would not vote for Cain, but it is DOA, so no worries on that. We need a true flat tax (not a Perry flat tax).
Consider this resume of an office of the National Small Business Association:
David Burton Joins NSBA As General Counsel
[snip]
Burton has advised, lobbied and litigated for small business on employment, securities, corporate, health care, tax and administrative law. He is a nationally known proponent of fundamental tax reform. He drafted four major pieces of tax reform legislation including the FairTax, the first national sales tax introduced in Congress, the first flat tax introduced in Congress and Sen. DeMints hybrid business transfer tax and national sales tax proposal sometimes called the BEST Tax. He also also drafted Medicare and Social Security reform legislation.
Too much Goddam information.
Cheers!
I think she meant to post using her alternate screen name, narcissa.
Cheers!
Gee, you're almost as flexible as Romney.
Principled much?
Cheers!
” Jeeze, I’m hoping they ditch the plan to have Rick rail against the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand. “
UH....MONDAY : )
” If this group speaks for a lot of people in Texas it probably is best that Perry doesn’t give them the cold shoulder.”
Based on your reasoning, Perry should drop what he is doing, and make a heart-warming speech to the Black Panthers...
Jeeze, Im hoping they ditch the plan to have Rick rail against the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand? HOLY CRIPE, not that! No History questions please. Rick didn't do too well at History in college. (Yes, that is a shocker, I know.)
The word is, he got stuck on questions about 'the Alamo'.
sorry for the tardy reply. it's that 'work' thing.
LOL!!!!
He was informed that previous presidents established the summer WH in places like Cape Cod and Maine.
Perry replied he would establish the summer WH in downtown Tijuana.
” Ricky’s so in tune to the concerns of American voters: he’s readying a campaign ad promising to wipe out diptheria in our life time. “
I’m going to wipe out RINOS, and publish a novel(posthumously)
: )
When asked about The Alamo, Ricky said, “get me two soft tacos with extra hot sauce and a large Coke.”
When asked about the Texas economy, Perry quipped “ Carlos Slim wants to make an offer “
