Romney refuses to back Kasich against govt unions
Washington Examiner ^ | Oct. 25, 2011 | Conn Carroll

Campaigning in Ohio today, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney stopped by a Republican Party phone-bank making calls in support of Gov. John Kasich's government union reform referendum, but refused to endorse the actual referendum. CNN's Peter Hamby called the scene an "incredible moment in politics."

“In June he was 100% behind Kasich. Hume and Rove will take care of the spin on this for him.”

Romney has no convictions. His guiding light is whatever will get more votes. He is the prototypical sleazeball politician.

But, Romney is smart enough to see Kasich on the way to a defeat, and is steering clear. Kasich mishandled SB5, and the Ohio voters are going to spank him for it.

I am also 100% prepared to either stay home Nov 2012 or vote 3rd party if Romney is our nominee. Consequences be damned, atleast I’ll be able to live with myself not being a political whore. A Romney presidency is worse than an Obama presidency because atleast the House GOP (and part of the GOP Senate) will stand up to Obama from time to time, and not be pawns in Romney’s big government agenda.

This is typical Romney behavior of never taking a position.

If we think Obama leads from behind, Romney will be worse.

The union bill is unpopular in OH.

Ergo, Mitt “Windsock” Romney is against it.

Romney would convert to Islam if he thought he could carry Michigan by doing it.

Wouldn’t it just be simpler if Romney, Huntsman and Hillary ran against Obama in the Democratic primaries? Based on his foreign policy and such, Wrong Paul belongs over there, too.

Newt and Kasich were tight in the 1997 balanced budget effort. I believe they remained friends. Kasich made a run for the GOP presidential nomination - too bad he failed.

He’s a good guy.

Same here. No more holding my nose and voting.

The loss of our votes will be filled by Mitts Moderates anyway.

It would only be a gaffe if Cain or Bachmann said this.

Pray for America

Do as you see fit. However, three years ago, many here were whining and said Obama would be no worse than McCain.

I submit to you that they were wrong on a grand scale.

And I also would say that a second term for Obama would be orders of magnitude worse than a Romney presidency.

I’ll vote for a brick over Obama.

Just a wild guess - bet Cain, Perry and Newt will back Kasich.

Oh lord, I hope so. We NEED Issue 2 to PASS in two weeks!!!

Romney, you're an idiot.

Kasich is going to get hammered on the SB5 vote. Romney knows that, and doesn’t want to be anywhere near it.

So what’s Mitts plan to get spending under control? If he doesn’t support Kasich’s plan, what’s Mitts plan? Raise taxes?

I voted for McCain, and I could probably plug my nose and do it again. I can’t do it for Mitt. Sorry.

Romney sure isn’t big on taking any risks during this campaign, is he?

Man up, Mitt.

“So what’s Mitts plan to get spending under control? If he doesn’t support Kasich’s plan, what’s Mitts plan? Raise taxes?”

First, it’s not Romney’s issue, it’s Kasich’s. It’s a state level mess.

Second, a plan that doesn’t work, isn’t a good plan. Rather than go for incremental reform, Kaisch went for the whole enchalada. If Ohio voters were given SB27 that asked public employees to pay a small fraction of their healthcare/retirement plans, and not hit the collective bargaining issue, it would have passed.

Ohio is a fundamentally blue collar state, a smart politician will operate with the conditions on the ground.

romeny wouldn’t want to lose any of the union vote, would he?

He's a fool if he thinks he's going to get any of the union vote anyway.

“I can’t do it for Mitt. Sorry.”

Do as you wish. But, Obama and his band of commies in a second term, with no re-election to worry about. Well, in 4 years, we’d look back at this time as the good old days.

It’s politics. Kasich is going to get hammered on the SB5 vote. Romney knows that, and doesn’t want to be anywhere near it.

Well if Mittens really didn't want to be "anywhere near it" he could have been in any of the other 49 states instead of in Ohio today.

Any of the 56 other states if he's like Obama.
