The 2012 Republican field largely slammed President Obamas decision, which the president announced Friday, to end the Iraq war and bring U.S. troops home by the end of 2011, suggesting that the move was a purely political one.
Republicans have suddenly found themselves running against a president who has notched clear foreign policy victories over the last year, among them the May killing of Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki last month. But the narrative among Republicans is of a president whos an apologist for American foreign policy, of a commander-in-chief who is weak and ineffectual.
On Friday, shortly after Obama announced that by the end of the year, tens of thousands of U.S. troops will pack up their gear and board convoys for the journey home, leading Obama rival Mitt Romney released this statement:
President Obamas astonishing failure to secure an orderly transition in Iraq has unnecessarily put at risk the victories that were won through the blood and sacrifice of thousands of American men and women, Romney wrote. The unavoidable question is whether this decision is the result of a naked political calculation or simply sheer ineptitude in negotiations with the Iraqi government. The American people deserve to hear the recommendations that were made by our military commanders in Iraq.
It didnt take long for the Obama campaign to slam Romney for his lack of a plan to end the Iraq war.
Mitt Romneys foreign policy experience is limited to his work as a finance executive shipping American jobs overseas, LaBolt slammed.
The President kept his pledge to the nation to end the war in Iraq in a responsible way. He has promoted our security in Afghanistan and eliminated key Al Qaeda leaders while strengthening American leadership around the world, LaBolt said.

Since when is an assasination a greta foreign policy victory?
Don’t get me wrong I am glad these people are removed from our planet, but it is not a great foreign policy victory.
It is more like an act that if it were done by a Republican President the Washington Post would be soiling themselves over.

Pretty hard to see how we could leave troops there if the Iraqi governmental can’t put a political coalition that will allow them to stay - at the moment we can’t even get the Iraq agree to legal immunity from capricious prosecution under Iraqi law after the current agreement expires.
This is an insult to all vile things.
To heck with the Iraq war, where we really need to declare victory and get out is the war on poverty. Once the boom starts from ending the current Obaminable policies the next president should do so.
The muslim terrorist wants our muslim terrorist leader to stay in the WH another 4 years to make sure Israel is annihilated and this country is totally destroyed within. They will not invade Iraq after we leave knowing that it would only cause them to lose their stanch ally from the political fallout. If Obama is reelected for another 4 years, he will turn on this country the likes we have never seen. His muslim ties as well as his anti-Christian beliefs will be the seed for the antichrist’s entry.
O worked on getting the coalition just as hard as he worked on getting consensus on national health and putting together a budget......
I would hardly call those "policies".
Perfectly said. The withdrawal plan was Bush’s from 2008. Obama still claims it as his own.
The victory in Iraq is due to the blood and sacrifice of our troops, and the strong leadership of President Bush, against the will of the wimpy usurper who opposed everything that brought us the success we've had.
I only pray that this politically driven (and I believe irresponsible) decision to withdraw all troops doesn't result in the bloodshed of more innocent Iraqis.
The only irresponsible part was the U.S. ever invading and then throwing a trillion $$ down a third world shithole. Not to mention the American lives lost. It’s their country. It’s their responsibility. They want to slaughter each, let them.
“I only pray that this politically driven (and I believe irresponsible) decision to withdraw all troops doesn’t result in the bloodshed of more innocent Iraqis. “
Yeah, but it will. Even if there’s just a “bump”. You know, it’s about religion. They all hate each other - the Shia and the Sunni. The only thing they can ever agree upon is killing Jews. And in Iraq, there’s the third angle from the Kurds.
I think seeing a bunch of Iraqi citizens killed would be the best we could hope for. The worst is a religion based civil war and a new foothold for AQ and/or an Iran sponsored government or terror organization of some kind.

At any rate, there's no way to argue with one who knows so little, so I'm not going to even try.
Again.....one can't argue with abject ignorance, so there's no point in trying.
You want to save the Iraqi’s. YOU who owe them EVERYTHING. March on over there and git er done.
Again.....there's no point in arguing with abject ignorance. Do your homework and get back to me in a few years.
