AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of "get the old geezer."
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn't enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear - his pride.
Shea was near the Valley Green Inn, on Forbidden Drive, in the Wissahickon Valley Park, about 1:15 p.m. Monday when he was hit from behind.
"I felt a real something to the head, a real blow to the head from behind," he said. "It knocked me to the ground; that was the biggie."
Shea said the four assailants continued to beat him for minutes while he was on the ground. He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts.
Police and Shea said that at least one of the attackers used a rock to hit him, causing deep cuts above his eyes. They all kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, conscious the entire time.
"There was only one I really saw well because he came back to kick me," Shea said. "The others spent a great deal of the time laughing."
The real "stunner" to Shea is that they left without trying to take his wallet, keys or cellphone.
"I think it was just to get the old geezer," Shea said. "They were some bad kids with rancid souls."

Funny how we as a society will cover up a racial hate crime by referring to it as an age related hate crime. Go figure.

We need some more Charles Bronsons to pose as victims in high crime areas.

Well said ole' man. This is a good guy. I hope when he goes back walking next week he has a sawed off shot gun slung over his shoulder ready for action. As he said, the walk does him good. Carrying the gun will keep the scum away and give him a little resistance training in the carrying. If he has to shoot. He'll develop more hand strength and flexibility.

Had Mr. Shea not been in such good shape, for an 84 year old man, he probably would be dead. He definitely needs to exercise his trigger finger more though, preferably with a pistol in hand.
Totality of comments self censored. Just too bad this gentleman doesn’t frequent areas with large populations of armed individuals. His own armaments may not have been of help in this attack, but witnesses certainly would have been able to assist.

This is just another one of those attacks referred to as a “game” called Knockout King, where gangs of young black males pick a defenseless and often elderly or handicapped white, Asian or Hispanic victim at random and suddenly attack him (or her). I think the whole point is to show off to each other how brutal and pitiless they can be.
That’s considered a good thing in that “community.” One of the problems is that because it’s generally taboo to report these attacks honestly, there’s not a lot of public condemnation of it by more responsible blacks.
Reminds me a little bit of, “A Clockwork Orange”. For those haven’t read it. A Clockwork Orange is a 1962 dystopian novella by Anthony Burgess. The basic plot follows a gang of sadistic teenage criminals as they run amok, beating, raping, and murdering with gleeful abandon in the London of the near-future. Or a scene from Fahrenheit 451, where a car full of 12- to 16-year-olds try to run Montag down and kill him just for fun. Both books from 50 years ago seem to be coming to fruition.
Knockout King is pervasive and generally ignored. Go to a search engine and find how many other attacks get a mention.
