Poll: Two-thirds of Republicans say minds are not made up

Las Vegas, Nevada— One day before a CNN Western Republican presidential debate, a new national survey indicates that Mitt Romney and Herman Cain are essentially tied for the lead in the race for the GOP nomination, with Rick Perry dropping to a distant third.

.....According to the poll [CNN/ORC International Poll], only one third of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they will definitely support the candidate they are currently backing, with two thirds saying they may change their minds.

"With only 33% of all Republicans saying that their minds are made up, it's far too early to say the race is over, or even that is has boiled down to a mano-a-mano fight between Romney and Cain," says Holland.

The survey indicates that most Republicans say they are satisfied with the field of GOP candidates still in the race, although only one in five describe themselves as very satisfied. Republicans who back the tea party are more satisfied with the field of candidates than Republicans who are neutral toward the tea party.

Nonsense. It is the Perry supporters who have a particularly bizarre affliction of believing he is either a solid Conservative, solidly honest and/or solidly articulate (or continuing to cling to the belief that he is “leading” in the polls). No different than the Slick Willard supporters of yore.

This is TERRIBLE news for Der Slickmeister! He’s had years of a headstart in money, name recognition, campaigning, endorsements, revinventing himself, media management, panding to the conservative base, and slick orchestrations— while Cain’s meteoric rise is all based on what people perceive as SUBSTANCE. And he’s just getting started. Once he gets more of the grassroots support and then the money and the primary machine behind him, it’s over for Governor Brillcream.

I’d take Bolton anyday just to see heads pop at the UN and the GoP .. Palin would pop every liberal talking head from Maine to Mauna Loa and the GoP, beyond that.. it’s hard to Trump them.. but I’ll keep looking ;-)

So you don’t want to vote for a Conservative for President.

Well Cain has been the front runner or tied with Romney for a much shorter time than Perry was. Cain has not lifted a finger to attack Romney, Perry has.

I do not trust Cain to do this or he would. Perry is lower in some polls than Gingrich yet Cain still will not attack Romney. Even Gingrich called Romney a Rockefeller Republican.

If Cain refuses to hit Romney with anything meaningful, seeing as they are 1 and 2 then I will support the guy with 15 million to spend doing it.

If Perry drops out, don't suppose his support will go to Cain, it may go to Newt. Mine will.

By the way, if you look at the polls Perry is in double digits, Cain and Romney remain around the mid to high 20's and now Newt is reaching into the double digits.

there are 3 months to go. Perry has 5 million a month to spend even if he doesn't raise another cent.

You and your Rovian storm will have to wait.

What people are remembering is how a month ago it was Perry vrs Romney and everyone else was suppose to drop out or they were accused of "just being Romney's spoiler".

People are merely appreciating the irony that one of the primary attack lines of the Perry camp is coming back to bite them on the butt now.

Wrong. Cain ripped into Romney big-time yesterday.

You need fresh Perry talking points, apparently.

What’s the matter fieldmarshaldj?

1/3 of 1/3 not looking so meteoric?

I am definitely in that group of undecided voters. All I know at this point is that I will NOT vote for Romney/Cain.

There is no way I would vote for a TALKER like Cain who has no governing record to judge him with

However, if Perry were to win the nomination, I'm sure you would be one of those telling us we have to vote for the GOP nominee.

Sorry you don’t get to have it both ways. Either you have to admit the Perry Camp rhetoric for the last month has been completely stupid or you have to live up to your own stated standard and demand Perry now drop out to avoid being “Romney’s spoiler”

Actually, you are misreading the polling. 2/3 are not totally committed and are open to change their minds.

What changes their minds?

Media. For the majority, it will be media. Pure and simple advertising. “I like what I see.”

Romney & Perry have tons of money. They can change minds with that. CA, NY, FL, big states with big delegate counts.

No money, you have to rely on retail politics. That works in small states with few delegates.

Cain will need to burn at least 3-4 million a month to compete. If he is your candidate, you need to send him money now.

Herman Cain is a TALKER. He has not enacted any policy to judge him with or voted on any policy judge him with. Throwing red meat bumper sticker rhetoric and joking around is good for the RED MEAT crowds/CRAZIES but not for me. I do not follow TALKERS an for sure I do not vote for them.

Well Cain was all I heart Romney, until his own momentum picked up and he decided he had a chance.

If he’s attacking Romney now, that’s a change.

He changes a lot.

You Perry-bots cannot have it both ways. You either have to now admit your camping tactics for the last month were completely stupid or now demand Perry get out of the race to avoid being "Romney's spoiler'.
