Well it is entirely possible that all the candidates unite against Cain in the attempt to throw this to Romney at the last minute. But some of these folks will have to drop out early, and if you didn’t love Perry or Romney by now, you won’t when your guy or gal drops out. It all depends on how many delegates each person has and how far they go to get them.
I don’t think the party could withstand that kind of crap, though. The Democrats did that to Hillary - they literally took her delegates away from her by changing the rules ex post facto. It almost destroyed the party if Hillary didn’t take the SS position it might have. On the right, with the advent of the TEA Party, there is no way the TEA Party would stay loyal to the GOP if Cain had 45% of the delegates and lost because the hacks united to throw their delegates to Romney.
I think there is sense to a Cain/Newt ticket, with Newt being there to give Gravitas to Cain’s ideas and of course to help the Executive work with Congress. There are few people how to work Congress and Newt is one of the few. I know he is not desired by most social conservatives, there is merit to the idea of this ticket because it help negate the biggest problem Cain faces - lack of experience in politics. And that is what could save the day in the end, both for the nomination and for the White House.

Yes - I have been saying that for a while now. It works. It makes sense. People say Cain lacks political experience to get his idea through a Congress, even a GOP Congress. Well Newt knows how the House works. And as VP he will sit there with all the Senators every day, as President Pro-Tem of the Senate he even gets to use their steam room :-)
Newt gives Cain lots of help in moving his agenda through Congress. It also blunts the criticism that he doesn’t have political experience. It is not his job as president to be a politician. It is his job to lead the nation. Let the VEEP do the politicking for him.

I agree with your posts that Newt could prop up Cain. Only because he would need that very much or he will be trounced the moment his feet hit the washington pavement.
But the more I hear that Cain isn’t laying the “ground work” he needs in the states, such as iowa etc. the more I question is his ultimate plan to run but with the idea he’d be willing to serve in Washington in any capacity they might offer...and that by running he has the visual and platform to be noticed he would not have otherwise.
Either way he would be good for the nation I think....few that disagree IMO.
I cannot believe that even 45% or more people think Bama deserves a 2nd term. As to Cain, perhaps but where was Newt in the poll and is Romney still really stuck in the low 20;s. If so, some one other than Mitt will be the nominee unless there is no real front runner and Herm is the flavor of the month. As long as debates go on, the candidates with less money still have a chance to stick around. My guess is and Zog and Ras and Gallup will have to see how this is at the end of the OWS destruction,that Obama’s re-elect numbers will be more like 40%, the Dem numbers that come up in all polls before an election. Supposedly, if an incum is under 50% , he is toast. We shall see if the loons win out over the patriots.

Cain is definitely improving, but these Zogby poll numbers are an outlier.
Cain is the “October Rocket”
Perry was the “September Rocket”
Bachman was the “August Rocket”

Love Cain, but I don’t think he can beat Obama. He will be “Palinized” during the General Election if he gets the Repub nod.
2012 election is about ONE thing, and ONE thing only.... who do Americans think is most competent to get us out of this mess. They really don’t think Obama can. But the republican candidate has to be perceived as competent to fix the problems. This 2012 race will not be about pure ideology for most Americans. It will not be a minutia that we political junkies bat around all day. It will be simple. Who can fix this mess? Is the republican better qualified than Obama.
Cain would be great. But most Americans realized they hired a rookie in Obama. I am afraid they will see Cain as the new republican rookie.
I don’t agree that Cain’s a rookie. I believe the more the lamestream calls him pizza boy or Godfather whatever, they’ll seal in the fact that he is a successful businesman and CEO material. He can kick the community agitator’s ass around the block without breaking a sweat. It’s not the left we need fret about... it’s the lame old stupid party’s elite that will torpedo Cain. They’re every bit as corrupt as the dems, and they have to cover their turf. Nobody gonna clean up Dodge on my watch!

Sounds like a good way of adding to Cain's black vote. Blacks with decent, non-government jobs are not happy with Obama. Add a Cain-bashing MSM and Cain may get 40% of the black vote.
