Herman Cain defends '9-9-9' tax plan on 'Meet the Press'
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 16, 2011 | Brian Bennett

Herman Cain tested the national spotlight Sunday as the Republican presidential primary’s newest front-runner.

Facing tough questions during a 25-minute one-on-one interview on NBC’s "Meet the Press," Cain acknowledged that his plan to simplify the tax code would raise taxes for “some” people and clarified his position that he doesn’t believe abortion should be an option in instances of rape and incest.

Scrapping the current federal tax code — which he described as a “10-million-word mess” — would eliminate a host of invisible taxes and eventually reduce prices, Cain said.

Some economists have pointed out that Cain’s plan would shift the tax burden further from the rich to the poor and middle class.

"Some people will pay more. But most people will pay less," said the former Godfather’s Pizza executive and a former chairman of the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City when pressed by host David Gregory about the effects of his tax plan.

Cain said the biggest appeal of his plan is its simplicity. The plan calls for a 9% personal income tax, a 9% corporate tax, and a 9% federal sales tax.

Video game enthusiasts have pointed out that Cain’s plan is the same tax schedule used in the computer game SimCity 4.

When asked how he would get the "9-9-9" plan through Congress, Cain said he would drum up public support.

“The American people understand it and are going to demand it,” he said.

Citing the simplicity of his positions and his conservative credentials, Cain said he doesn’t think his front-runner status will peter out like other GOP candidates who surged in the polls only to fade away earlier this year.

“I don't think Herman Cain will be a flavor of the week," he said.

9-9-9 does “not add a new tax”, it replaces a corrupted failed tax system with a simple, transparent broader tax code. It replaces, not adds, to the current tax code.

What do think continually lying about 9-9-9 does to your credibility as a Freeper?

“why don’t you stop spamming every thread with the same fraudulent attack post “

Says the King of Spam, who not only spams every Perry thread with the same post, from the leftist media that is misleading, unverifiable and basically a lie — but even posts the same thing several times on the SAME thread.

Thank you for the link to the show. I just watched it and found his views on the border and illegals interesting.

David Gregory: “Would you deport illegal immigrants in the country right now?”

Herman Cain: “Here is my approach to illegal immigration. Here again, this is what’s resonating with the people. How I would solve the problem. It’s not as simple as, would you deport. We must secure the border. It would be a combination of a physical fence, technology and in some areas we might have to put troops there. We must secure the border. Secondly we must promote the path to citizenship that’s already there. We need to clean up the bureaucracy. Third enforce the laws that are already there. The way you do that is number four, which is a bold idea – empower the states to do what the federal government can’t do and won’t do as far as dealing with illegals that are in the United States today.” – Herman Cain: Meet the Press – October 16, 2011

How about this Perrybots? How about you drop the smear attack campaign postings and try making a case for your candidate for once?

Odd how the Perrybots and the Romneybots are using the exact same campaign tactics. The never ever make a case FOR their candidate, they merely slander and lie about all the other ones.

So which campaign are you Perrybots actually working for?

I agree. Thank God that all but the most simple minded (Yes I do mean you) understand that isn't what he's saying.

Putting aside your insults that you seem to think will accomplish anything by doing, who do you think decide the general election? It's not you. It's the guy who doesn't see the difference in the two parties. It's the guy who doesn't pay attention to politics until just before the election because he is too busy working his ass off to keep his family fed and his lights on. He is going to pick the guy who says "I am going to make your life better". Obama got that in 2008 and McCain didn't.

Is Cain's plan a good plan? Sure, it's a good place to start. Is it great for people like us who have skin in the game that think it's sucks that 47% of Americans pay no taxes, hell yeah it is. But to win the General the Conservative has to get most of that 47% to vote for him. They are not going to vote for the guy who is telling them that when he gets elected they are going to lose part of their income and they aren't going to hear you trying to explain how it benefits them in the long run. I will support Cain if he is the Nominee but he can not win the General Election shouting 9-9-9 at every question he is asked and Obama and the left will eat him up for it.

If you disagree, fine, that's your right. But cut out the insults, that's a Leftist tactic and beneath this Community.

Where have I attacked, lied or slandered?

Have you read the thread?

btw — When I do post threads on Gov. Rick Perry, swarms of anti-Perry posters come onto those thread and they aren’t polite to Gov. Perry or to me — they do what you just accused me of. And when I post threads and include links and information to support Gov. Rick Perry, I’m accused of being some agent for his campaign and that I should be banned from FR.

Did you have anything else to add?

No, but I want to save the Republic and the 47% of Americans that pay no Federal Income taxes now are not going to vote for a guy who says he is going to make them pay it. They don't understand that they pay them and don't know it and Obama and the Left is going to do everything they can to make sure that there is too much noise for them to figure it out. We have to win this election or we are screwed and an inexperienced man saying I am going to tax everyone is not going to win against a guy saying he is going to give you everything.

This Nation is at a tipping point, can you imagine what Obama will do when he has four years without worrying about getting elected again.

If it reduces your tax burden why would you need those deductions? I don’t know about you but I don’t think I’d stay with the status quo to keep a couple of deductions when I can lower the amount I have to pay. And if you know anything about politics, every suggestion is a way to start a discussion. This is one that we absolutely need to have. Why not some kind of flat tax (which a 9% is) that has everyone paying, no loopholes, deductions, etc. The law could be written so that increasing the rate is harder than trying to pull a tooth with 2 q-tips and a rubber band.

Why don't you follow your own advice?

Wonder why Perry hasn’t been invited to Gregory’s dance?

Perhaps even the liberals realize he is not news worthy.
