A new Rasmussen poll is pouring salt on Texas Gov. Rick Perry's wounds.
The struggling one-time front-runner is now trailing President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup 49 percent to 35 percent. Obama was leading Perry six or fewer points in two recent Rasmussen polls — and Perry narrowly polled ahead of Obama in early September.
Perry would fare worse than businessman Herman Cain, who in a poll last week trailed Obama 42 percent to 39 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney polls even with Obama — the best of the Republican presidential candidates.

Thank you. You’re right. They are morale-busters. They were never going to support Perry anyway so they feel free to make ridiculous remarks that attack his character. In Texas, we have a fairly conservative legislature made up of members of both parties. Perry does nothing on his own and must have full support of the Lietenant Governor and the legislature to implement any program. He has to take the blame for failed decisions and has very little opportunity to claim the victory of success when it happens. The unattractive pictures of him shooting, or the remarks about his accent are juvenile....almost like 7-year old boy talk. Nonsense. No state like Texas is going to re-elect an idiot. Perry is held in high esteem by actual working, sitting governors of other states.
With Cain surging from nothing and nowhere, we are watching a political cartoon. Imagine being able to say you would hire a Alan Greenspan-like to the Fed and the conservatives cheering. Jerks. The Tea Party went off stage and off their rockers with the exit of Sarah Palin.
There are two kinds of politicians: those that are pandering opportunists, and those who will become pandering opportunists.

It’s simple! All the conventional polls are wrong and the Facebook Internet poll that says what you want to believe is the right one.
I’m aware you always have the last word, no matter what. Never varies. Doesn’t bother me.
In the above post I linked to the “Internet Facebook” poll, your words.
All I knew about it was its different methodology from what I’ve know. People watching videos of Bams vs videos of Romney, Cain, Perry, plus reading their bios. Results were poll respondents said all three were better than Bams.
I don’t even know if the respondents were screened for their preferences before participating in the poll.
Haven’t followed it that closely.
I will say this, common sense tells me Obama would not crush the GOP nominee in an actual election as opposed to a poll, regardless of nominee unless it was someone perceived to be unqualified or otherwise a silly option who couldn’t win a race for dog catcher.
Rasmussen is a valid source.
But polls are polls, not elections, and it’s a snapshot, unless it goes on for a long time.

It is quite possible that he confused the whole 1700s = 18th century thing and knew that “its off by one century” and just went the wrong way. Sure, he wasn’t perfect, but most of us say things that are wrong from time to time. You are very fortunate to have the gift of perfection. Congratulations, but please cut the rest of us some slack!
Imho, he’s not terribly bright and simply didn’t know that he was wrong, or why.
I don’t know if/how they were screened either. I think polling through Facebook is a great idea and might actually become more reliable than other forms of polling, if done right. There really isn’t a way of telling whether this particular one was or not.
Polls are a snapshot, but there are definitely verifiable trends, with Perry falling in every poll and heading quickly towards the bottom in FL,SC,NH, and IA.
It would seem that the idea of what Rick Perry would bring to the table is what was popular when he first came on the scene. People have since seen the reality and found it lacking. I’m very happy about that, since I find him completely unsuitable for the highest office in the land, but opinions vary.
Anyone but the most devoted follower would have to wonder about Perry’s ability to compete in the general at this point, based on his performance. And that doesn’t even deal with the myriad problems with his record.

I think he really isn’t all that bright, and he isn’t much of a conservative, but I thought he would hold up better than this. Oh well. I’d always been opposed to him running for president, laughed about it in fact, but suddenly this summer, for one shining second, it made sense.
I don’t know anything bad about Cain so far and I don’t think he’s unelectable. I think he’s eminently ready to be President.
Given that Maine is basically the size of a large Texas county, cut Texans some slack about leaving.
Please don’t count me in that category. It’s Perry or Cain for me. If Newt didn’t have all the baggage, he would be one helluva candidate. Would love to see him a debate with Bowbama.

Lets do get real on this gaffe. Its a freaking gaffe. He got confused and subtracted one from the century instead of adding one. He didn’t run someone over in his car or call Cain the “n-word”. If you can’t support anyone who makes an incorrect statement, then I will assume that you have never voted in an american election.
Or is this just “gotcha politics” and you only hold the candidate you don’t support to an impossible standard of 100% perfection in all things? I expect more from a conservative.
For the record, I support Cain and Bachmann. Perry is a guy I will not support unless he wins the nomination. However, I will not play gotcha politics on any Republican candidate because we deserve better than that. Beat Perry on the issues, not the gaffes!
I don’t believe it was a gaffe. I believe he genuinely doesn’t understand that the 16th century is the period of the 1500s. That’s my point of view. Sorry if it conflicts with yours.

Yes I was. But our nation is in bad trouble and we face a muslim communist president running for re-election and we know that his machine will use every illegal and dirty trick in the book to win. There are more important things to consider than simple gaffes. Perry was an Air Force pilot and flew C-130s. No one gets to where he is by being as stupid as you think he is. I’ll go after Perry for his record and his vision for America. That’s my point of view.
