SHOCK POLL: Herman Cain Leads GOP Nationally! (PPP Poll has Romney trailing by 8 points)
Business Insider ^ | 10/12/2011 | Zeke Miller

Posted on 10/12/2011 12:37:00 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Businessman Herman Cain has risen to the top of a national poll of Republican primary voters, upending the GOP field yet again this cycle.

Cain has the support of 30 percent of Republicans in the Public Policy Polling survey, trailed by Mitt Romney at 22 percent, Newt Gingrich at 15 percent, and Rick Perry at 14 percent. Cain is also the second choice of 24 percent of those polled — the highest of any candidate.

In a two-person race, Romney would lead Perry 48-38, Cain would lead Romney 48-36, and Cain would destroy Perry 55-27.

The poll was conducted before last night's Washington Post-Bloomberg debate, in which Cain alienated some members of the tea party (his largest constituency) by saying he admired Alan Greenspan's leadership of the Federal Reserve.

PPP has a checkered history with polling — and this poll has a VERY large 4.5 percent margin of error — so don't read too much into this just yet.

Well said!!!

I posted this on another thread - but in line with your comment on the $2000 flat screen TV.

There is no ‘poverty’ in the US. Everyone has shelter, clothing, food, hot & cold running water, heat, lights, labor saving appliances, transportation, health care and entertainment.

An elderly neighbor and I were reminiscing on our childhood. Several siblings shared a tub of water to bathe. Food was never thrown out but served in sandwiches or in a stew. Clothing was hand-washed and hung on a line. Clothes were repaired & not donated to charity until outgrown. Water was drawn from a well. Heating from a wood stove and food baked in its oven. Walking was not an optional exercise - but transportation. Taxis & trains were a luxury reserved for family gatherings and funerals. Houses were small and well kept. Fresh vegetables came with dirt attached.

I see Gingrich is coming up fast. Unlike Perry-and I suspect Cain-Newt won’t stumble. Romney will only win if enough conservatives hang around to split the vote.

This has been addressed multiple times.

Newt has been a resident of Virginia for several years.

I'd much rather have a motivational speaker telling me positive things than to have a President like the current guy who goes around telling people he's sorry for all the sins I've committed.

I'm tired of apologies.

He supported Romney when the only choices were Romney and McInsane. Easily forgivable. La Raza Rick endorsed Trudy Giuliani back when there were still conservatives in the race! And Cain WILL win the nomination and the general, he’s now ahead in every poll, and he won’t fade. We won’t let socialist RINOs like Myth/Huntsman/Perry get their way!

Wow. Speaks volumes.

He’s still only at 60 percent name recognition? There’s a huge gap in intensity.

Herman needs to keep speaking, keep getting his name out there.

so you’re voting for 0bama, since he is the ONLY one running with experience as president? ;-)

That’s quite shameful.

Ron Paul might well have some legitimate criticisms but L.Ron is an awful lot like Obama ~ the fault is always in someone else.

Sorry to say it but L.Ron, like Obama, needs consigned to the dustbins of history.

Herman Cain surging is a sign that the people who support the GOP DO NOT want the GOP establishment to CHOSE their canidiate.

Since I’m a home owner in NJ, I think I’m in a better position to say that Christie has proven to be a bigger bloviator and media hog that the horrible Jon Corzine ever was. A 45 minute farewell speech to the troops when he wasn’t even resigning from anything. He spends taxpayers’ money running around the country and taking vacations where he cannot be reached (making last winter’s blizzard a political disaster) and refusing to condemn the Ground Zero mosque where 700 Jerseyites died in the World Trade Towers (4 from my town). And I voted for the bum!

PPP is part of the opinion shaping branch of the DNC.
I like Cain, but this one is not to be taken seriously.

I’m glad to see Newt climb out of the pack (as a Georgia boy I’m proud to have two Georgian’s in the race—yea, I know Newt was an army brat; didn’t move to GA till an adult; and now lives in Va, but so what? I’ll claim who I want).

That is the TRUTH. It’s almost gotted to Dewey defeats Truman levels of disbelief. They just cannot get themselves to believe how powerful the TEA Party movement is.

As predicted by many here, Newt is bubbling into the top tier.

Do you think Newt would accept the VP spot if asked by Cain? He would provide the institutional knowledge that Cain doesn't necessarily have. (Plus I would love to see Newt debate Joe Biden)

The idea of Cain debating Obama and Gingrich debating Biden makes me want to throw a party. Can you imagine? They’d be LEGENDARY.
