Who will have more pull in 2012: Tea party or Occupy Wall Street? (Freep this Poll)
South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | October 11, 2011 | Gary Stein

Posted on 10/11/2011 8:06:07 AM PDT by ConservativeStatement

Say what you will about the tea party -- and I've said plenty -- they did have an effect on elections.

The question now is, can the Occupy Wall Street folks have the same effect?

We've seen the protests the past weeks, although they seem more splintered than anything else. They are outraged about foreclosure fraud, joblessness, student loan availability, wealth imbalance, the federal debt, the fate of the middle class, you name it.

What is this, a joke? Those losers don’t even know how to vote. On the other hand, the effect of this mob may be to turn independents off, so both Occupy and the Tea Party will bring votes to republicans.

They must be kidding right?! No. They’re actually planting the seed of legitimacy for the occupy losers. Keep comparing to the Tea Party and eventually they’re both viewed the same.

No contest...It’s already over. The more the Fleabaggers disrupt our lives the more they lose.

Yeah, but they have the MSM behind them 100%. There are fewer "99%ers" in all of the protests across the nation than will normally show up at a single tea-party rally, but as far as the MSM is concerned, they are equivalent, more consequential, and superior in every way.

Watch for them to have influence way, way out of proportion to their numbers.

The tea party, without a doubt. They're organized, and they know how to effect an election. They'll get rid of Obama. (252 responses) 41%

Occupy Wall Street. This is a movement that is spreading, and people are upset. The movement gives voice to those people. (130 responses) 21%

The tea party knows what candidates it wants to back, and which ones it wants to eliminate. Like it or not, they know what they are doing. (165 responses) 27%

Occupy Wall Street, and a smart candidate will say they empathize with the group's ideas. It is the voice of the people. (67 responses) 11%

So the totals are 68% Tea Party to 32% stinky squatters.

Actually, it's not "pull" its "push". The more the Occupy people do, the more pics of protesters bathing in garbage, having sex in the open and defecating on cars, the more people will be pushed TOWARD the Tea Party which is the "alternative" for the weak-minded people in the center. I support the Occupy crowd ... the more they do, the better it is for the REST of America, they are showing "who" they are and "what" they believe in. When a Dem "sides" with them, then that Dem is siding with garbage, open sex and defecation. If that's what they believe in, fine with me. Let them define themselves, then in Nov 2012 THE PEOPLE will vote to get rid of the garbage and make America whole agin.

Bad poll, devides the Tea party vote over multiple options to make it look closer.

The tea party will win due to its much more reasonable aims. It is not trying to create a revolution in the way the world works. Just move the GOP to the right.

Know your enemy and know yourself and in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. The tea parties enemy is not the Democrats, but the RINO. We know our enemy. We are wiling to acknowledge the limits of reality. The tea party doesn't envision taking over New York or LA. So we make plans that don't require such measures. The occupy "whatever" groups are dispersing their effort in places like Davenport Iowa. They are putting 250 people in 50 cities rather than 15,000 people in one place. The tea party puts a million on the mall for a few hours then disperses to save our energy. They fight dirty, we fight smart. Short term they can win a few days of positive coverage. But just like the 1968 and 1972 elections the radicals and protesters can't win the big fight.

Did anyone at the Sun-Sentinel bother to proof read the text of the poll?

It should be 'affect' rather than 'effect'. Cause (affect) before effect.

73% combined score for the Tea Party.

We don’t have sex on the sidewalk or poop on police Cars, so we resonate more with “real” Americans. You know, the ones who vote, work, believe, and care about our country.

Wrong. How something will "affect" you is an example of the "effect" it will have. In all instances where they use the word, they use it absolutely correctly.

Dude.

From Wiktionary:

Affect and effect are sometimes confused. Affect conveys influence over something that already exists, but effect indicates the manifestation of new or original ideas or entities:

“...new governing coalitions during these realigning periods have effected major changes in governmental institutions.”
“...new governing coalitions during these realigning periods have affected major changes in governmental institutions.”

The former indicates that major changes were made as a result of new governing coalitions, while the latter indicates that before new governing coalitions, major changes were in place, and that the new governing coalitions had some influence over these existing changes.

The verbal noun uses of affect are distinguished from the verbal noun uses of effect more clearly than the regular verb forms. An affect is something that acts or acted upon something else. However, an effect is the result of an action (by something else).

Save your cuts and pastes from other imbeciles who don't know how properly to use the English Language. You're talking to someone whose writings are used in advanced literature courses in schools and universities on two continents, who chould read before age 4, and had an English professor for a mother.

Stop embarrassing yourself. In every single instance, they used the word entirely correctly. You are wrong. You can either learn something here, or insist on going through life as an idiot who is incapable of learning anything more than that which you youthink you know right now, but this discussion in over.
