The lawmaker who authored the California Dream Act said Saturday that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed the bill allowing Illegal immigrants attending California universities to receive state financial aid.
Brown's office declined comment, and an announcement on the legislation has not yet been made.
But Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) said he was notified Saturday morning by the governor's aides that Brown has approved the measure, which makes illegal immigrants who are accepted into state universities eligible, starting in 2013, for Cal-Grant assistance.
The governor’s action also allows those without citizenship papers to tap into institutional grants while attending the University of California and California State University systems, and to get fee waivers in the California community college system.
Cedillo praised Brown as an "incredible leader with the vision and courage'' for signing the bill despite its great controversy.

Legislators in “non Dream act” states need to pass laws withholding their state’s proportionate amount in Fed Tax dollars. Let those states fund it on their own. There’s no reason the rest of us have to do it.
The 10th is becoming the most important amendment by the day. For the moment anyway.

This will be a great opportunity for a referendum and if they time it right, it could be placed on the November ballot, making it an issue in every legislative race.

Something fishy is going on. Last year we had furlough days in our CA school district to help with budget cuts. This year we were supposed to have at least as many. When we showed up to work this school year, we were told no furlough days were needed. How can that be? California is more broke than ever.
I think Obama is funneling money to CA in exchange for buying all the Hispanic votes. I also see a ton of road work being done; roads torn up two or three times in the last year and put back together. It’s just keeping the construction union employed and happy to garner their votes.
A secret deal between Obama and Brown? I wouldn’t doubt it. They’re both corrupt as hell Marxist/commie democrat bastards and Obama and the corrupt fed have trillions of secretly printed, er, electronically generated dollars flowing all over creation. * I agree, maybe Moonbeam knows a referendum is already set to go..no way this thing will see the light of day plus doesn’t go into effect until Jan 1, 2013.
Plenty of time to reverse because the backlash is going to be fierce. I hear that even moderate dems don’t agree with this.
