Unfortunately, it looks like the forces of smear, slander, and threat have finally claimed their intended victim. With Palin's announcement that she won't run for president, the election is essentially over.
The calculus is fairly simple: the media and GOP establishment want Romney to be the nominee. Once a progressive is at the head of the Republican ticket, low turnout for Republicans will hand a narrow victory to Obama.
So here is how the election will go. The media hasn't seriously opened up on Herman Cain, but most assuredly they will. Cain has been in business for decades, and the liberal media will troll through every relationship, every business deal, every word he has ever spoken. If that fails, the lies will start. To see evidence of this, we need not look at far as Palin. Rick Perry, another progressive, was attacked for something that someone painted on a rock on land his family leased out. That narrative will be used to attack both Perry and Cain -- Perry for having "allowed" it and Cain for making a big deal over "nothing." Both narratives will be forwarded, potentially in the same program. Once the liberal media goes through Cain's past with a fine-toothed comb, they will doubtless find disgruntled business adversaries, accusations of infidelity, and more.
If Palin had been in the race, the smear tactics would have failed, as the establishment and media threw everything they could possibly throw to get her out of the race. Who knows what her personal reasons, in her heart of hearts, were for not running? Perhaps she feared for the safety of her family. At any rate, there is no other conservative that has as much of a head start on the slander as Palin did....

I don’t know about that, Hillary couldn’t win the nomination the last time and I don’t think her appeal has increased in the meantime. If the women of America, who are the majority of voters, wanted Hillary Clinton in the white house she would be there already. I have believed all along that the biggest obstacle Sarah Palin would have if she entered the race is that most women don’t want a woman president, my opinion has not changed and no one has even tried to prove me wrong yet. Someone please tell me why I should NOT believe this. I have voiced this opinion to a number of women I know personally and not one has challenged me, they have in fact agreed.
Women ARE the majority of registered voters and no one shall sit in the oval office without the approval of women. I don’t believe Hillary Clinton has or can gain that approval from the majority of women.

A Mitt Romney nomination pretty much cinches a second term for Obama
One thing that none of the commenters has brought up is that huge percentage of people who pay no income tax. Those people will be told that the mean old Republican will take away their gravy train. Add that group to the people who don’t work at all and are gaming the system for every nickel they can get the government to pay them, plus the hard-core Democrats who will vote against the GOP candidate just to satisfy their own fantasy-based opinions of the GOP, plus the seniors who are being told by AARP that the GOP wants to take away their SS and Medicare, and you have a constituency that will show up at the polls in huge numbers.
The only way that Obama will be defeated is if the R’s and the Indies who work for a living show up in huge numbers. With Romney as the nominee, I don’t see that happening. It will also affect all the down-ticket elections.
Between Obama’s billion dollar war chest and a media that will write or say whatever is necessary to demonize the Republican and deify Obama, the election will be lost. In short, in 2012, we’re screwed.

It wasn't Palin "worship" : it was pent-up enthusiasm that a major party finally had a candidate who not only "got it" but was someone *genuinely* from the grass roots, who had worked their way up, and and proven their good faith by resigning from a corrupt commission instead of playing ball. A woman who loved being a woman, who really loved her family instead of mouthing the words; pro-life words backed up by action at great cost; someone who punctured Obaama's pretensions early on ("when those Greek columns have gone back into some Hollywoood warehouse").
And it was clear she is HONEST. 24,000 emails released, subject to crowdsourcing by the New York Slimes and Washington Compost, were so clean that THEY swept the story under the rug after 48 hours.
The exact OPPOSITE of projecting our dreams on a blank slate, which is what Obaama was.
The only hope was bitter, vicious, uncontrolled, rabid HATRED and personal destruction.
