Sarah Palin-affiliated law firm made early-state deadline inquiries
Politico ^ | 10/04/2011 | Maggie Haberman

Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines. Continue Reading

The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee.

As Ken notes, while he nor representatives of Palin’s campaign would comment on the calls, Palin is the only GOP politician eying the presidential race who is represented by the firm.

It wouldn’t be the first time that her representatives have sought information on the deadlines marking the ever-shifting GOP calendar.

The current thinking in GOP election law circles is that the first hard cut-off for entering the race is Oct. 28, when presidential candidates who hope to appear on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary would be required to submit a filing fee from a federally registered presidential campaign committee.

Pissing off the very people you need to have vote for you isn't exactly a winning campaign strategy. I've been gone for almost a week, and it's the same old tired theme of Palin stringing along her devotees. What will next week's hint be? Will she wear a red, white, and blue ribbon in her hair while on Greta?

Roughly 15 seconds after the announcement, 99% of all Palin supporters are going to be in such a state of elation that they will forget all about the wait. The other 1% will maybe grind their teeth a little, rend some of their clothing, and maybe butt their heads against the nearest wall. But within a few minutes, all will be forgotten and forgiven.

The notion that Palin supporters will be so embittered by having to wait a few extra weeks that they end up supporting Mitt Romney or Rick Perry, even after she gets in, is a ridiculous one.

With the election still over a year away, nobody is going care about the date that a given candidate got into the race.

Things can change. Wouldn’t it be embarrassing to announce after one of the filing dates? You verify, and verify again.

You completely forgot the cadre of hunters, ex-military, etc who have been sitting around, sipping coffee (or whatever) and just checking in now and then to admire the tactics of the lady.

Surest way to blow a chance at game (or, in the case of the military types, have somebody start shooting at you) is make a lot of noise. Particularly when you’re just about to take your own shot.

JMHO, “somebody’s” just got a nice sight picture and is probably just about to take a breath before squeezing the trigger.

Could be just another head fake, too......LOL

Thanks, guys, for the links and info. If I’m understanding correctly from combining your links, she would be required to have a federally registered presidential campaign committee only if she had received $5,000 in contributions to her campaign. At that point, it would be required that she file a statement of candidacy and register the campaign committee with the FEC.

Assuming she wanted to fly completely under the radar, she could conceivably let no one know, and have not accepted any campaign donations, then she could simply file her declaration with the NH Secretary of State and pay the filing fee.

If she chose option #2, it probably wouldn’t take more than a few days prior to the filing deadline to make sure everything went through okay prior to the deadline. If I was watching her like a hawk, as politico and others apparently are, it looks like they might have only a few days advance notice prior to the NH filing deadline, provided they have access to NH Secretary of State’s filings of declarations. I’d assume that’s public domain.

I’ve never had any doubts about her getting in the race eventually. It’s Sarah or nobody for me, and that’s how it’s been since ‘08. I’ll be voting for her no matter what.

LOSER Romney has NO chance in a real election.

He cheats.

Romney eliminates the ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE/DeathPanel issue.

Ineligible Romney also removes the fake BC issue.

Romney, who failed in the economy in Mass
as its wandering governor, will also negate the economy
issue.

Romney also eliminates the corruption issue.

IT’S UNANIMOUS FOR ROMNEY

Carville(D):
"It's a feel-good story, this Romney thing.
Romney is an ascendant guy
."

Sen. John Kerry (D) to Don Imus on RomneyCARE:
"I like this health care bill".

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D) on RomneyCARE:
"To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."

Mitt Romney wins much coveted Jimmy Carter endorsement

It won't be until after her money grab in South Korea, though, so we've got at least another 10 days or so.

For someone claiming to be Conservative, you sure do begrudge other people making money, just like those ignorant commie hippies currently infesting Wall Street.

A serious candidate wouldn’t call his base heartless for wanting to defend American soil from invading criminals.

I don't think the Federal and NH filings are mutually exclusive, or that the time order is such that one depends on the other. The typical candidate files with the FEC first, then in each state, but this order of events is not a requirement.

Each individual who is a candidate for federal office must file an FEC Form 2 within 15 days of becoming a candidate.
www.fec.gov/press/press2011/presidential_form2nm.shtml

There is separate reporting required, when a candidate solicits and/or accepts funds to operate a political campaign.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I actually was wrong...
