The Washington Post story revealing that Texas Governor Rick Perry hunted and hosted lawmakers at a hunting camp called Niggerhead is alarming and displays a new height in racial insensitivity in national politics. Mr. Perry should immediately fully explain how he could have gone to a ranch and hunted that is named after such an obvious racist term or he should withdrawl from the race. He is either blindly insensitive or hopelessly unaware of where he spends his time. Either way it makes one wonder if he is ready for prime time and certainly whether he is ready for the White House. Al needs to look around Twitter and see what black people were calling Justice Thomas last week over the Troy Davis case.
One person repeatedly called Thomas “porch monkey.” (Whatever that is, never heard of it, but assume it something racist.)
I wondered if it would be okay to call President Obama a “porch monkey,” since I disagreed with many of his political decisions.
No answer.
Remember, you can’t say niggardly either.
WTH are you even talking about?
Where is the link that supports your assertion of Cain’s affirmative action stance?
Brazilian nuts were also known by the name, “Niggertoe”
Perry was a Dem and House Rep in 1984, so its possible that it was painted over shortly after that. The thing that is odd is:
In several English-speaking countries, Niggerhead or nigger head is a mostly no longer current name for several things thought to resemble a black person ("nigger")'s head. The term was once widely used for all sorts of things, including products such as soap and chewing tobacco, but most often for geographic features such as hills and rocks. In the U.S., more than hundred "Niggerheads" and other place names now considered racially offensive were changed in 1962 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, but many local names remained unchanged.[1]
If most of these places names were changed in 1962, why didn't the Perry's change the name then, instead of waiting 20+ years? When did it become offensive to them?
To be fair, remember the vicious brawls that took place in 1999-2000 before George W. Bush strode forward out of the cloud of dust. Then Republicans all became lovey-dovey and threw their cheerleading to Bush. It was needed, too, with the very narrow win Bush got.
I think we have better caliber people this time around (especially if Sarah Palin is willing to fill a vacuum, should Cain not grow as hoped).
Very true.
If it was private and not on any map, there wouldn’t be any compulsory reason — besides Perry was still a Rat???
I would say it is Amanbyocht doing her very best to get Cain to say things that will give certain people something to complain about rather than focusing on the very issues and enemies that are destroying our Country.....namely, her messiah, Obamao.
.....and we fall for it every time.
I am series about this hole thing.
If most of these places names were changed in 1962, why didn't the Perry's change the name then, instead of waiting 20+ years? When did it become offensive to them?
Since they didn't own or lease the property from 1962. I mean to ask why they didn't just get rid of the rock after all these years since the name is STILL visible under the paint? Break it up and get rid of it.
“If most of these places names were changed in 1962, why didn’t the Perry’s change the name then, instead of waiting 20+ years? When did it become offensive to them?”
Perry’s family didn’t own the land. They LEASED it from the owner in the 80’s.
“Bob, Bob, Bob...I see that you dont read much, either. Theres a lot of that here at FR. I also see that you confuse your dreams with reality.”
Pretty insightful comment there...keep that brain of yours working.
Cain is counting on 1/3 of the black vote (his projection) if he’s the GOP nominee. His criticism of “Niggerhead” was to validate himself for that projected vote.
Right I already addressed that.
Those ought to stay and the literature not be bowdlerized, as a documentation of archaic usage (like the older thees and thous of Shakespearean times). At least America has no official literature and language police, unlike places like France where they are too clever by half in their insistence on plausible Frenchisms when rendering words that were invented in the English speaking world.
Is that what Larry Sinclair gave Obama?
Just an observation: been very little lightning around here lately. Think the mods are sitting back and watching people out themselves as closet pubs.
I do think there is a zot storm coming...
