Small straw poll but interesting.
It looks like Cain has displaced MB as the main alternative to Mick Pomney.
Interesting, especially since the start of Cain's campaign had more stumbles than anyone except Gingrich. His gaffe's seem to have peaked when he visited a mosque and apologized to Muslims for saying he would never put a Muslim in his administration (the comment was dumb to begin with, apologizing for it made him look even weaker and unsure)
Since then, he's recovered surprising well and this latest straw poll win is certainly a trend. I was disappointed in Cain and wrote him off a few months ago, but he's hiting all the right notes lately. Just last week, the Perry Kristnas were claiming that all conservatives who opposed Perry was either a Ron Paul disruptor or a "purist" who was "waiting for Sarah" and would trash ANYONE not named "Sarah Palin". My how they've forgotten that talking point quickly since the Cain surge! Now they're convinced anyone who dislikes Perry is a Cain backer. ;-)
I suppose it's possible that a private-sector businessman could win the nomination...Wendell Wilikie pulled it off in 1940. But it's still a long shot. I would prefer Bachmann, but if the choices are Cain, Perry, or Romney when my state votes, I know who I'll be supporting and it ain't Mick Pomney.
Alot can change in a couple weeks, Perry supporters are learning that the hard way this week (evidently, Giuliani and Thompson's tanking in 2007 didn't convince them that the "front-runners" a year before the election aren't necessarily the "front-runners" when the actual primary starts and they shouldn't have counted their chickens before they hatch). Let's hope this holds by the time Jan. rolls around and the Iowa caucus begins.
