No trick: Christie, Palin face Halloween deadline
CNN ^ | Sept. 28, 2011 | Robert Yoon

Possible presidential hopefuls like former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may have more on their minds than trick-or-treaters and costumes this Halloween.

The date usually associated with candy-seeking children this year also marks the deadline to file to get on the Florida Republican primary ballot, likely to be held on January 31, 2012. It is the first of many deadlines candidates must meet in order to appear on the ballots in various state presidential primary contests.

The filing deadline for South Carolina's GOP primary is the following day, November 1. Other states with November filing deadlines include Michigan and Missouri, which require candidates to file paperwork by the 15th and the 22nd respectively.

About time. Getting sick of the “will he or won’t she” garbage. To the point now where I just don’t give a damn.

Christie needs to stay in New Jersey and take care of what he started there..If he wants to run then give it four years..

Palin needs to get in now if she is going to run..We need her or Rick Perry or both..

This actually means they would want to file well before this, first to both control the media by not having a last minute filing on the 31st come out of nowhere, and second, to have some contingency time just in case there is a problem with the paperwork or a clerk holds it up.

Christie is in. I hope Palin is.

But I’ve stopped worrying about it. We’ll have to play the hand we’re dealt. Right now, we have a pair of threes.

“It is the first of many deadlines candidates must meet in order to appear on the ballots in various state presidential primary contests.”

CNN is full of crap as always. Now that FLA moved up their primary, NH has already moved their primary filing date to mid Oct and the rest of the early states are sure to follow.

The field of candidates is set now, because there isn't enough time left to file everything for the early state primaries for anyone without a campaign in full swing.

I don’t know when the drop-dead date is for a candidate to announce and still win the nomination. What I do know is that for every filing deadline not made, that candidate doesn’t get any delegates. Even cutting it close to a deadline is dangerous because of the risk of getting your nomination petition denied to due bureaucratic snafu, sometimes deliberate.

They also risk defections of money and manpower as well as missing the momentum and media train. Not to say someone couldn’t overcome those odds, but the later you wait, the more you don’t control your own destiny. Luck happens in politics but I prefer the other of not having to hope for things to break my way on long shot odds.

So whether we’re talking about Palin, Christie, or someone else, I think now that we’re in October the window closes a bit each day. Absolute decision time to jump in is getting close.

Florida is being manipulated to push forward their vote to make IA NH SC and NV push theirs forward. I think it’s on purpose to make it harder for someone ...like Palin ...to come in late. I think Romney is sure he has this locked up if he can hold off Palin.

I don’t get why people don’t understand what she says herself. She does NOT want to be beholden to big money, big government, establishment GOP, and especially to the media. She will do it HER way. That’s it. That’s all.

All the filing dates are being moved up, it is not too late for anyone to get in. It isn't a matter of just rushing down at the last minute and filling out a form.

Voter lists have to be collected, checked and double checked. It is over, the field is set.
