Michael Steele: Rick Perry’s in-state tuition plan for illegal immigrants "very conservative"
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/30/2011 | Nicholas Ballasy

Posted on 09/30/2011 1:51:37 PM PDT by martosko

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele told The Daily Caller that it was a “very conservative” decision for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry of Texas to give in-state college tuition rates to illegal immigrant students.

“I think it is actually fairly conservative to look at, very conservative, to look at solving the problem in a way that empowers people, gives them opportunities to get out of harms way — fiscally or whatever — and to move the state forward,” he told TheDC during an interview in Washington on Friday.

I would say that, considering the feds won’t enforce border security and Perry’s options as governor is not unlimited, Steele could be correct.

I'm sure you would, and you are an alien, illegal maybe.

You are very moderate, almost liberal in many opinions you've expressed on FR, and you probably feel more at home over at KOS or DU.

If Mikey Steele is your version of a conservative...

What is Palin's position on illegal immigration?

Not much different than Perry's.

I can't say for sure what Perry would do nationally about the illegals but I know Sarah Palin was graded a D by NumbersUSA and she has stated that deportation of illegals is not being realistic and she would support immigration reform.

If Illegal Immigration is your issue, Cain or Bachmann would be by far the two candidates to be looking at. They were both graded a B

So the electorate better smarten up and get on board with conservatives Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or Palin.

If illegal immigration is your issue you may want to remove Palin off your list.

Like Perry, she is rated a D on her illegal stance. Palin says deportation of illegals is unrealistic and she would support immigration reform (AKA Amnesty).

Cain and Bachmann are the two best candidates for illegal immigration if that's your issue.

Wow! An entire post of ignorance!

Perry confronted Obama face to face regarding border security and has been speaking out for a long time, you just now arriving to the party.

If you thought more and felt less, you’d realize that allowing the illegals in-state tuition is about the best of the available choices. It’s obvious that few Perry critics have faced or even given serious thought to the problems of illegals in Texas or anywhere else.

Sound byte policies that are popular with people like you are short sighted and solve nothing. Even if the ideals are correct, how do you implement them??!!

No one in their right mind thinks it possible to round’em all up and send’m back home.

No one the least bit familiar with the Texas border can realistically advocate a solid fence along the entire border.

The fact that the whole issue is far more complex than ‘fence’m out and send’m home’ is lost on people like you.

Less than 2% of adminssions to Texan colleges are illegals paying instate tuition.

Look at skyrocketing federal spending, foreclosure figures and unemployment rates and think about where this 2% in Texas really rates in the big scheme of things.

And again, no one is advocating this nationally, least of all Perry.

They can't legally work.

Texans are special and not just in the good way. At some point Texan nationalism (Tjas nationalism?) changed from remember the Alamo to we are like Mexico and different form the rest of America. They hate Yankees more than the irridentist and revanchist Mexicans invading. These ersatz nationalists mix a perverse localism with libertarianism into a rather toxic anti-American brew.

These are people who lived in Texas, attended high school.. , and are pursuing citizenship.”

An illegal alien does not have the option to pursue citizenship unless they get AMNESTY first.

You are basically telling every Mexican that if they come into the US illegally and freeload high school education for 3 years they get college in-state tuition + AMNESTY.

Anybody who defends this is either stupid or is deliberately trying to bring about the destruction of the country.

I would hardly be labelled a liberal where I’m at.

I would say that many might view me as liberal, because I’m not partisan and maybe that’s why people assume that I’m taking a liberal stance on an issue when I’m not really.

Well, another pro-illegal immigration advocate.

Part of your post said:"No one in their right mind thinks it possible to round’em all up and send’m back home."

You do not have to round them up to send them all home. As I posted at the beginning - do not feed them, do not allow them to work, do not offer LOW COST TUITION, do not provide any services to them. They will go home on their own.

By providing all those services to them they'll stay. Deny them and they'll go home.

I think you're the ignorant one when you can't see the simple solution. They're already leaving AZ and other states that enforces the law on illegal's. What part of that don't you understand. Oh, wait .... yep .... I get it. Another person drinking Liberal bleeding heart Kool-Aid.

And how, dose one show proof of paying taxes, when Texas has no income tax?

Sorry, that was just dumb. As in padded helment and water wings wearing dumb. Texas gets it's taxes from sales and property. Are you assuming these illegals live in their car and never gas it up? You do know that even food stamps have sales tax added, right?

Steel gave a good speech several years ago at the convention. Has he had a stroke or has his brain been invaded with liberal micro-parasites or something??? Steele is a MAJOR disappointment. Fail.

How do you prove you have paid sales taxes for three years. Do you save all your receipts. Food stamps don’t have sales taxes added in my state, we don’t pay tax on food. Your seriously telling me that all these illegal aliens own property?

Fur Shur 100% of every federal grant or payment to a state school should be eliminated.

Well, another pro-illegal immigration advocate.

You've just declared yourself just another bald faced lying sack of excrement who swallows for other liars.

It seems that when YOU can't answer the questions and YOU don't have a response, YOU start tossing labels that are lies.

You continue to lie, I'll continue to bitch slap you on here all day long.

Deal with the issues.

The Feds have created the problems; the states cannot fix the problems, only try to manage them.

Interestingly, Perry has pledged to fix the problems of illegal immigration at the federal level but you don't want to accept that.

Property taxes are usually included in the rent as part of it. No landlord is gonna let some family live rent free for three years. Eviction is not hugely difficult.
As far as Texas goes, there is sales tax on food (or at least some food), which is added to the bill automatically at the store and must be covered by the food stamps. Got a good friend who, through no fault of her own (see eviction comment), is currently on food stamps in Houston. She confirmed the sales tax is still added.
So, if you have lived there for three years, you have paid taxes for three years. It’s a simple fact of life.
