Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has not spoken to close allies in recent days and is set to break her own self-imposed deadline of the end of September to make a decision on a presidential run.
Becky Beach, Palins top fundraiser in Iowa and a close friend who is usually kept in the loop on the former governors plans, told The Hill that she had not heard from Palin in weeks about whether or not she would run in 2012.
[For] somebody like me, is a title and is a campaign too shackling? Palin said. Does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handlers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what political pundits want it to be? Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? Thats the biggest contemplation piece in my process.
Palin has slipped into single digits in numerous polls of potential Republican candidates since Texas Gov. Rick Perry got into the race, and many of the top Republican campaign operatives have already been scooped up. It looks increasingly unlikely that she will run for president.
But Beach said that if Palin does decide to run she could still be a formidable candidate.
I think its going to be so unconventional if she decides to run a few weeks arent going to matter one way or the other. If she decides to run the enthusiasm will be there, I dont think shes going to be handicapped [by the timing].
Spokesmen from Palins political action committee did not return repeated calls for comment.
I have glumly accepted the fact that she isn’t running.
She has till October 1st and then I will be on the Cain Train.
Hard ballot deadlines are up in a month. No amount of strategy can get around coming up short in a delegate count.
I still haven't seen that documented anywhere -- other folks are saying it's January 15, not October 15. Besides, you can pretty much write off Utah as a Mitt win anyway (and of course, it will have NOTHING to do with Mormonism. No siree...)
while the deadlines for many other states land on Oct. 31
One state, Florida, not "many". South Carolina is next on November 1. Both states have relatively low barriers to entry, so a last-minute entry in both cases is plausible.
But since the Republicans are no longer using “winner-take-all” primaries, she could miss a few states, and if the other candidates split the vote enough (which they will if there are still 9 of them), she might not be that far behind.
SO I don’t think she is “too late” from that perspective, although it might be too late for other reasons. More likely, if she decides not to run, it won’t be because she waited too long, but because she really just decided it wasn’t what she wanted to do.
I am finding it harder to believe (I never fully bought it), that her waiting is all part of some grand strategy. I believe her when she says she is still trying to decide, and still looking to see if an existing candidate will emerge that she can support and has a good chance of winning. And if that is correct, the fact that it is getting later and later could just indicate that she isn’t jumping at the chance to enter the race.
But why speculate? We’ll all know eventually.
She’ll run. After all the effort and prep she’d done, of course she will.
She is playing a game of chicken with the GOP. Not only will she have to battle the Dems, she’s got an immediate battle with the establishment GOP on her hands.
They are going to hand us Mitt Romney, just like they did McCain, come hellp or high water... and whether we likeit or not.
Super Tuesday is I think around the first week of March. Whatever the ballot deadlines are for those states I would think would be her upper limit for a realistic chance. I don’t know what their last dates are but I would think we’d likely be talking Nov. I think every day she waits past Oct 1 it’s going to be a longer and longer shot.
Two things struck me in her interview. First she was really made up and her hair well done, yet she had on a “running” suit. Strange. When she said goodnight to Greta she threw in this, “See ya soon”. I’ve never heard her use that kind of closing comment. I think she was sending clues for us not to get discouraged.
To be fair to the electorate I think it’s time she declare one way or another.... Keeping too many Cain supporters from making a commitment to him because she MIGHT run
I caught that in the interview but I'm just patiently waiting for her announcement. We have until Oct 31st.
The deadline to get on the Utah primary ballot is Oct. 15
That is not what Utah says is the deadline:
Becoming a Federal Candidate
Office : President
Filing Dates : Between between July 1 of the year before the primary election will be held and 5 p.m. on January 15 of the year in which the primary election will be held
http://elections.utah.gov/register/becoming-a-federal-candidate
They are not interested in facts.
You may be right .But If Sara doesnt jump in, most of her supporters will pick Cain. They have the same fundamental values. They couldnt be more different on the outside but strikingly the same on the inside. They share the same heart and soul. God fearing America loving patriots.
so is the earliest deadline 10/31 for all 50 states?
Let us know when you look up the 49. It is fairly obvious the author of this article didn’t bother.
It took me less than 2 minutes to find it on the Utah web site. But I don’t intend to look up all of them.
I should have added, I did look up Iowa and New Hampshire.
NH is: The filing period will be between the first Monday in November and the third Friday in November.
IA is in 2012.
It’s certainly a misleading headline.
It is NOT a “self-imposed deadline,” as this lying report suggests.
And apparently the article is also wrong about the primary dates.
I’m sure that Palin is balancing all of the various factors, and is quite capable of making the decision for herself. She has very skillfully kept her name in the forefront while many midget candidates have come and gone, rising in the polls and then falling out again. These same people were saying months ago that it was too late—but they were obviously wrong.
My current choice is certainly Palin/Cain. But of course it’s up to whoever is chosen as candidate for President to pick her VP. Certainly it wouldn’t surprise me if Sarah chose Cain. It would be a great ticket.
Palin is not late... everyone else is early. When she wins, it will be just in time.
