The biggest mischaracterization of Perry's position has been on immigration. The fact that he has more confidence in putting "boots on the ground" along the border, instead of relying on a fence that can be climbed over or tunneled under where there is no one around, is a logistical judgment, not a question of being against border control.
Texas Rangers already have been put along the border to guard the places where the federal government has failed to guard it. Former Sen. Rick Santorum's sound-bite attempts to paint Perry as soft on border control have apparently been politically successful, judging by polls.
But his repeated interrupting of Perry's presentation of his case during the recent debate is the kind of cheap political trick that contributes nothing to public understanding and much to public misunderstanding.
I have far more questions about those who would blow this error up into something that it is not. Error-free leaders don't exist â and we don't want to end up settling for a warm body.
Ultimately, this is not about Perry. It is about a process that can destroy any potential leader, even when the country needs a new leader with a character that the "gotcha" attackers demonstrate they do not have.

Very well said, dearest sister in Christ, and I strongly agree!
Yeah, That dang Rick Perry is against the 2nd amendment.

Good post by Sowell...
Well, heck. If that’s the criteria to win a Presidency of this fine land, I’ll jump in!
I solemnly promise never to call anyone heartless or racist.
Are you now going to vote for me? Or do issues matter?
That’s the biggest reason I’m supporting Perry. I think he’s the best hope we have of shrinking the size and scope of the Federal government.
That, and his record on jobs and economic growth are very good as well.
And your solution is a multi-billion dollar fence when we are already so in hock to China that our great-great-great-great grandchildren will still be working to pay it off?
How about a no-cost solution? Pass a law rescind all benefits for anyone who is not a US citizen.
Boom, problem solved. But it's not a fence, so all the Fence-bots will automatically denounce it.
That’s all good. Now, shouldn’t you be trying to convince people to support your candidate?
Well, considering I’m posting from South Korea, there is a time difference.
You make good points.
That said, name a Republican candidate that actually is strong on immigration. You won’t find one.
Which is why this is a red herring. No matter what candidate you chose, you’ll get the same deal.
So, we have to look at the other pressing issues on the table. Jobs, economic growth, deficits, overregulation, Obamacare, the continually expanding encroachment of the Federal government into every aspect of our lives, etc, etc, etc.
And on these issues, there are clear differences in our current crop of Presidential candidates.
I believe Perry is the strongest on job and economic growth... which will help tame the deficit. Also, he’s got a very strong record on pushing back the over-regulation of our businesses, which boosts economic growth. Additionally, he’s good on keeping taxes low - another plus in my book. All of which creates jobs, which is the most pressing issue for tens of millions of American voters.
And finally, he’s very vocal on making the Federal government as inconsequential as possible. Which means reducing the size and scope of it.
As my tagline suggests, I *REALLY* want to see that. Plus, that helps with the deficit if you are eliminating the bureaucracry that creates it.
Steal away. I recommend hosting your own copy instead of hot-linking to my site so that if I move or delete the image you won't lose it.
I don’t have a candidate yet.
Have you stopped beating your wife yet?
Thank you. I downloaded it to my photobucket account. I never hotlink from fellow freepers. It's bad form, I consider it a theft of bandwidth. Thanks again, it's a great graphic! :)
Just like John Kerry, pictures are deceptive.
Perry is not what he pretends to be.
I’ll have to start first, and I’m kind of busy right now.
To real gun owners, it’s certainly not an obscure piece of mail.
I understand why Perry has refused to answer the questionaire. His owners oppose gun rights, so it is a lose - lose proposition to him. This is what I’m trying to point out to the air-heads that blindly support Perry.
The real Perry is ugly in every way. He is not his own man, he has been bought for a small price.
Just a couple of the many tyrants that think guns are OK for them, but not others.
(Diane Finestein, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, Ricky Ricardo...)
If you get time, post a link of where all the other candidates answered this questionnaire. I’d be curious to see their positions are well.
My, my we're thinned skin. Let me guess... Palin2012?
Perhaps Perry is done as you say. But one thing for sure. Even Rush Limbaugh considers Perry to be a conservative. There are two front runners: Romney and Perry.
Romney has the RINO vote and Romney detests the Tea Party and Romney is the media's candidate..
While Rick Perry and Cain and their supporters are out there attacking Obama, Romney, his supporters and the supporters of unannounced conservative candidates are attacking other republicans from Rick Perry and now this week Herman Cain. So, either Herman Cain is a RINO two or there is an alterier motive for the attacks. Remember, RINO John McCain loved to attack other republicans also. It's a trait RINOs have... attacking other republicans.
Rick Perry has the conservative vote. To deny that is to deny that conservatism is winning. He may not be as conservative as each of us want on certain issues be he IS the conservative of the two and he is one of a few conservatives running. Romney is not.
The only people trying to call Perry a RINO are those who have unannounced conservatives they want to win. But they know that to jump in now would slip the ticket with conservative Rick Perry giving Romney the the nomination. The last thing those supporters of unannounced conservative candidates want is for their candidate to be marked The Nader of the republican party. Therefore they must try to mark Perry (the conservative) as a RINO as to not be blamed for a Romney victory.
And if that's not enough. The same people calling Perry a RINO (and not appearing to be threatened by RINO Romney are the same ones that were bashing Cain all this week. Cain is NO RINO either.
If RINOism were the real reason for the bashing of Perry... surely Romney would have been the first target as he is an obvious Rino.
But it's Perry and Perry alone (except Cain)being attacked. The attacks are because Perry is INDEED a conservative and a threat to any announced conservatives the supporters hope to jump into the race.
