As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.
I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we wont hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover, Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.

Hope Pat McCrory jumps all over this and makes it sound as bad as it is. As chief executive of these United States, habeous corpous has been suspended. But to even imagine she would suggest suspending an entire article of the Constitution is beyond the pale.
Makes me embarrassed to be a North Carolinian today.
The whole issue was dropped when some quick survey work revealed that the every four year petition would win. Of course I am much older and wiser now.
The State legislatures, along with Congress, ought to meet once every six years. If that doesn't work, we can always try eight.
UPDATE 5:17 p.m.:
Perdues press secretary, Chris Mackey, claims the Governor was joking when she made the comment.
Come on Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of whats best for the people they serve, Mackey said in an email to TheDC.
Hugo Chavez agrees!
wtf I didn’t see the humor/satire keyword
Actually, at some level this is an interesting idea, but let’s wait until the Republicans have both houses and the Presidency.
The columnists at the NY Times have praised China as a model.. this shouldn’t be too much of a shock I guess
It shouldn't surprise anyone, especially here, when we hear, read or see a liberal pol desiring to "suspend democracy" especially elections when they suspect/know that they're going to get their a@@es handed to them in baskets.
I've been thinking that "the One" would dream up some way to "suspend the '12 Election to......."(you fill in the blank), so to learn that a lib gov has stepped out in front to pave the way for "the One" shouldn't surprise me.
Trial balloon?
Only if it is replaced by Federalism.
that was pretty much already assured...
And so it begins........will the sheeple go over the cliff?
They always make it sound so sensible, don’t they????
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. He hit the crack one to many times. People are going mad in our country. Time to drain the swamp as Pelosi likes to say.
WoW! We’ve been a nation for 235 years, and have been through many transitions, including the great depression. Yet, not once has anyone EVER called for the suspension of the Constitution in order to deal with an issue, any issue. This goes beyond the pale. Will the sheople who voted Obozo into office now get it that the dimocRATS are not interested in preserving or defending the Constitution of the U.S.?!?
Leaving the politicians who cause this mess in power is going to solve it how??
Down goes the Reichstag
God save the Queen (of NC)!
PING!
Beyond treachery! But I’ve long pondered if this loser and failing, vicious WH would harbor such tactics .. and feared it could be considered. Which Obama crone whispered that in her ear??
Gird your loins ... EAGLES UP!

And I always thought the FReepers who predicted such attempts were bonkers.
