People voted for an inarticulate populist in 2000 and we ended up with a big financial crash and Obama.
Cain was a CEO and understands monetary policy. We’re going to have to deal with some very complicated financial problems and I don’t think any of these other guys and gals can handle it.

Hey, I understand the “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” shtick. It’s very appealing to think that the “Common Man” goes and puts the hurt on DC. It’s fantasy.
Give me a Republican Senate and almost any of the candidates and we’ll get some results. But don’t expect sweeping global change in government. That’s not how it works.

Cain has LOTS of great conservative ideas, easily better than anyone on the stage. Tell us what they are in ENGLISH. Just tell me what the plan is! When he did Thursday night it was not complicated, and not quite as too over-simplified as 999.

That is why it is very dangerous to introduce an entirely NEW tax such as a National Sales Tax. The new tax never goes away and simply becomes a brand new drug to get addicted to.
If Republican President Cain introduces "9-9-9" in 2013, what is to prevent Democrat President Jones in, say, 2018, from jacking up Cain's idea to "19-19-19" or "29-29-29"?
The National Sales Tax also DOUBLE TAXES those of us who, like I did, actually "funded my retirement with private investments" and by being a frugal spender and a high SAVER.
I will get the privilege of having been taxed at 36% when I EARNED the money and then, with the saved money that was left over, I will then be Federally taxed AGAIN, at 9% when I spend my savings.
($100 earned in 2010) - (36% Income Tax in 2010) = ($64 saved in 2010)
($64 in saved money spent in 2014 under 9-9-9) - (9% National Sales Tax) = ($58.24 in buying power in 2014)
Between earning in 2010 and spending in 2014, that $100 will have been DOUBLE TAXED for a total rate of 41.74%

By the Way Polybius, you forgot to mention that that’s the FEDERAL taxes alone (Unless you added the State income tax into your calculation). Now, add to that the 6-10% in State sales tax, and you may very well be paying over 50% and that may not even include state income tax and municipal sales taxes.

Magritte and I had some interesting interaction the other day. I checked its posting history and it appears to me that magritte is a political operative; either RNC or DNC. It chastised me for thinking that homosexuals don’t belong in the military.
All it ever comments on are political horse race type issues, never ever posts its viewpoint on anything, and is anti-conservative 100%. Now he’s dissing Cain, he disses Palin every chance he gets from what I can tell. IIRC by scanning his posting history he did post something positive about Romney at one point. Romney of course being a Dem fave.

I’m happy if Cain’s catchy little 999 comes down to your level. He’s a hellofa lot more complex man than that, aspiring to a hellofa lot more complex job than that. I sure hope the average voter does not need 999 to think Cain is smart or to understand him. If that’s the standard, then we are in a lot worse shape than most imagine.
Thank you so much for that update and clarification. I am thrilled that Cain handed Romney and Perry their respective hats in Orlando. It will be interesting to see what the MSM does over the next week to try to prop up their favored sons.

I was just adding my point. Palin's kind comments about Cain (and vice-versa) do not represent an endorsement. Perry supporters abused similar comments by Palin about Perry. I hope not to see the same from Cain supporters.

I mentioned this in an earlier post.
Cain needs to ditch the national sales tax idea and instead simply worry about cutting spending and existing taxes.
The problem isn't the plan, it's what DC would do with it.
They are addicted to the existing code because of the control it gives them.

That’s all good and well, but Cain has plenty of the same private sector experience and track record of turning around companies, WITHOUT the baggage of being a phony who changes positions as often as changing socks.
Of course I’ll hold my nose and vote Romney in the general over Obama, but I wont be very happy about it if that’s our choice. This guy just can’t be trusted. He put in a state health care plan that MANDATED the state’s citizens to buy health insurance. There’s nothing at all conservative about that.
On abortion, just look on YouTube for his 2002 Mass Gov debate hosted by Tim Russert. The guy repeatedly insists that he’s for “a woman’s right to choose” and denies ever asking for the endorsement of a pro-life group. He even brings in his mother as a pioneer because she was pro-choice in 1970, when that was a very unpopular position. In this video, he becomes very indignant that his opponent DARE question his commitment to a “woman’s right to choose.” Sounded very much the same as when he re-buffed Perry’s charges in the debate the other night.
Then, only 5 years later in 2007, Romney has a sudden change of heart and becomes pro-life-coincidentally right after leaving office in Mass and just in time to run for POTUS. This alone is bad enough, then there are his statements on global warming, making Mass a “sanctuary state” but now suddenly he’s a strong opponent of amnesty. The list goes on and on. The other night, he was given a prime opportunity to call Obama a socialist-which I think is pretty obvious and a fairly benign term for him, and he wouldn’t take it. Instead, he dances around the issue.
Sorry-this guy just can’t be trusted. If Romney is elected, you wont have any idea who you are getting until after he is sworn in. With the future of our republic hanging in the balance, can we really afford to roll the dice with a guy like that?
No, that was only the Federal income taxes. I was one of the evil high earners.
The more I paid, the more the Democrats said that I did not "pay my fair share".
Fine. I retired last August in my mid 50's, I am still living frugally with lots of savings and Obama will not get one more dollar of income taxes out of me.
I'm much happier now. :-)
