In FL Straw Poll, a Late Surge for Herman Cain (more Perry debate fallout)
The Washington Examiner ^ | Saturday, September 24, 2011 | Byron York

ORLANDO -- There's no scientific polling, but talks with dozens of delegates who will vote in today's Florida straw poll suggest that many are making last-minute decisions to vote for Herman Cain.

What seems to be happening is this: A lot of delegates came to Orlando planning to vote for Rick Perry. But Perry's poor performance at Thursday night's Fox News-Google debate gave them pause and re-opened the question of whom they will support. And many of the conservatives who were attracted to Perry will, when asked for a second choice, naturally gravitate to Cain, who, it just happens, had a particularly good debate on Thursday. So with Perry not commanding the loyalty he did just 48 hours ago, Cain appears to be picking up support.

Careful. Depending on how this goes today, we may end up finding out (being told) that “these straw polls really don't mean anything”.

The Perry Campaign had made Governor Perry sound like he was to politics what Rocky Marciano is to boxing. After three poor debate performances, Perry appears more like Toro Moreno.

>>> Cains support may “surge” from 1 to 2%

What are Cain’s negatives?

Read the guys name and tagline, he clearly is just a Perrybot.

I thought Cain was outstanding and he would get my support.

Romney and everyone else made Perry look like the RINO pro illegal phony that he is.

Sorry TexasFReeper, I think your RINO hero is in trouble.

So they polled the delegates before the real poll.

Totally meaningless.

I think it’s more than that. And I think Perry was on to something about the combination of “Newt/Cain” into one persona.

What helps Cain is he was the first to come out and articulate actual plans for getting the economy to turn-around (the 9/9/9 plan is easy and straightforward for voters to remember. It’s a great idea. It will be interesting to see what happens if Palin were to get in to see the argument between 9/9/9/ and 0% corporate rate.

I think what will happen is if Cain picks up steam, you’ll find more media reports about his health and them trying to scare voters that the cancer might come back.

At this point of time in 2007 the top two candidates were Huckabee and Fred Thompson and there was no serious thought that McCain could push others aside including Romney and move into the top 2 spots. If you are going to be a political junkie and follow this stuff day in and day out you have to have a lot of patience and perseverance.

Loved the vintage vid of Cain smacking down Slick Willy on nationalized healthcare...and this was over HillaryCare in the ‘90s!!

So much for the conservatives/Tea Party being racist......you’ll never hear this being pointed out in the MSM.

I love Cain too, he’d be my first choice IF he can get by the RINO block of the Repubs.......

THANK YOU GOD!!!! My prayers are being answered. Yes Palin is my first choice but to have a REAL conservative win this thing would be incredible.

Cain is my first choice of the declared candidates but I am realistic that much of politics now is media and marketing and he needs to make some major moves before he can overcome that roadblock.

The MSM will say that Cain is not really black.

Count on it.

Newt / Cain mmm mmm mmm

Too bad Newt has so much baggage though, because he would creame Obama in a debate.

I like Cain - he has interesting ideas and I don’t think he’d be swayed by politics as usual.
