Perry: We Don't Need to Elect the 'Smoothest Debater'
National Review ^ | Sept. 23, 2011 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 09/23/2011 11:07:54 AM PDT by Clairity

In his CPAC speech today, Rick Perry came out swinging, criticizing Romneycare vigorously and stressing that there was no connection between good debating and good governing.

"As conservatives, we know that values and vision matter," Perry said. "It's not who is the slickest candidate or the smoothest debater that we need to elect. We need to elect the candidate with the best record and the best vision for this country."

I must say this election is getting fun for being so early in the game. I even read some articles that said Perry’s campaign is over. In the MSM’s eyes, Perry’s is over but Huntsman is right up there in the top contenders? Their logic is rather irrational. Maybe they are trying to ‘speak it into existence’.

Governor Perry is right. President Obama is as smooth as they come and I doubt George Washington was a slick word slinger either. But sadly, glibness is at a premium these days and in the media age little consideration is given to substance as opposed to style.

The law is the law.

Don’t blame American citizens, the no fault kids can blame their parents.

Morning after riposte.

EVERYBODY can think of what SHOULD have been the applicable response after the encounter, but the tape is still out there, subject only to limited editing.

Can Rick Perry somehow shed this “country bumpkin” persona sufficiently, so he can let some of his strengths and advantages come into focus?

I want to believe, really I do, but when there is someone standing in the wings, like Herman Cain, the world can wait only so long for a recovery from a fumble.

As they say, those who won’t learn from history, are condemned to repeat it.

Two words...

Rick McCain.

Good grief! What conservatives are going to toss those illegal immigrants brought here through no fault of their own and who are applying and waiting on citizenship papers?

There are estimated to be 15-20 million illegal aliens in the USA today and they are here because of attitudes like the one you just posted.

Since there is no real punishment, rather there is reward for being here illegally, more just keep coming.

It started with emergency hospital care.

Early on, after emergency care, illegals were deported, but the bleeding hearts called that cruel.

Then came schooling, then came welfare, then came all the relatives of the illegals.

And now, Rita, you bleeding heart conservative, you are tugging at the heart strings of us "heartless conservatives" that want to OBEY THE LAW AND SEND THE ILLEGALS BACK.

IOW, he isn't a good liar.

I reject that conclusion.

Being substantive on the issues doesn't make you a liar.

Thinking on your feet doesn't make you a liar.

Stringing 3 coherent sentences together doesn't make you a liar.

Can you imagine him in a 2 hour debate one on one with Obama (and the liberal inquisitors)?

Epic Fail Rick Perry Style

I like Rick Perry; but the issues to support the honest US taxpayer are so obvious they should make any debate a no-brainer:

* hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money to Goldman-Sachs and AIG, private investment firms fo rtheir own survival?

* a Kelo decision that gives the State the right to confiscate private property just for its own aggrandizement?

* millions and millions of cheating illegal invaders sucking on the resources of the American taxpayer?

* Supreme Court appointments which advocate the power of the State to cheat the taxpayers who pay for it?

* corrupt rewards to polical supporters ala Soros, et. al?

* a national healthcare coups that actually controls an individual's responsibility for his own bodily healthcare, and taxes the whole society for it?

How can any one lose a debate against the Left (unless of course if the Media controls the questions)?

Why should my daughter, a U.S. citizen, have to pay more than an illegal to attend Texas A&M? Answer me that.

Glad to! Because your daughter hasn't lived in TX for three years!

If your daughter can get a sports scholarship to A&M she won't be required to pay OOS tuition...and if it's in baskeball she'll be on the National Championship team.

BTW, 16,000 thousand illegals don't go to U of T as Romney suggested.

“Perry: We Don’t Need to Elect the ‘Smoothest Debater’”

How about if we nominate a candidate that is smart enough not to verbally, publicly attack a large portion of the electorate?

LOL, we do need someone that is smarter than a box of rocks. That leaves Perry in Texas.

I thought FReepers don’t want Romney to be the nominee

That's what I thought. As much as I like Perry and think he's a decent guy, he wasn't well prepared for the debate and didn't do his homework. He's going to have to work on the back and forth exchanges, especially if he goes up against the teleprompter.

I couldn't care less about debates. To me, they are a waste of time because you know that the candidates have been rehearsed ahead of time on exactly what to say right down to the scripted "sound bites" that have been pre-tested in focus groups. In presidential politics, it's leadership and core conservative American values that I look for.

Rick Perry did not display those conservative American values last night. I've worked hard all my life, put myself through school at my own expense and I am in process of putting my kids through school at my own expense.

So it really ticks me off to see illegal aliens coming across the border in Texas so they can put their own kids through school at no expense to them.

If Rick Perry is going to consider me "heartless" because I have a problem with that, then I do not want him representing me in any political office.

Read his book “Fed Up.”

He'll be “Fed Up” when Obama creames him in one debate after the other. I'm sorry but debate performances do mean a great deal and Obama is a well oiled machine when it comes to debates and he will have the media machine behind him.
