Perry: We Don't Need to Elect the 'Smoothest Debater'
National Review ^ | Sept. 23, 2011 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 09/23/2011 11:07:54 AM PDT by Clairity

In his CPAC speech today, Rick Perry came out swinging, criticizing Romneycare vigorously and stressing that there was no connection between good debating and good governing.

"As conservatives, we know that values and vision matter," Perry said. "It's not who is the slickest candidate or the smoothest debater that we need to elect. We need to elect the candidate with the best record and the best vision for this country."

I think I have informed you before, the government has paid farmers for years to fence off running water from farm animals. Further, we built the sewage treatment plant for Juarez Mexico, before that the little bitty river was sort of brown colored south of El Paso. We also built the one in California to stop them from pumping raw sewage in the ocean.

I do not have much time to elaborate my views. We cannot make assumptions because we do not have the full picture. I am on the same page as you, believe me. We who know are not naive.

Perry is suffering from terminal “ foot-in-mouth “ disease : )

Among other things...

Okay, assuming for the sake of argument that the other Republican candidates, their supporters, and the media were inclined to give Perry a pass on his debate skills (and I don’t think that’s likely somehow), what evidence whatsoever is there that the Democrat nominee will?

Perry has asked for National Guard troops on the border. Obama has not obliged. They find massive graves in Mexican towns and decapitated bodies are put on display there. It is reported weekly.

They are killing mayors, policeman, and anyone else that get in their way. Dead bodies in the street in tourist areas such as Acapulco. Drug and gun runners are a bigger problem right now then those that have sought refuge here.

I was the first one that pointed out, that illegals would get unearned income tax credit in arrears, in the Jorge amnesty bill, I would bet Perry has the same bill ready.

Perry would likely be far worse than Bush could have ever been. Perry has spent most of political career pandering to ILLEGAL aliens and, with his comments these past two debates has made it clear that if you, a United States citizen do not agree with his pandering you are a racist.

Perry would be a disaster for the Republican Party and for this country. We came far too close to amnesty with a President George W. Bush. That amnesty would become reality with a President Perry and once it did Republicans would probably never win another national election.

With the technology available today, a fence is not necessary. “Boots on the ground” as Perry said, combined with the technology would be efficient.

Sorry, no hero, no bot either. Haven't endorsed anyone, yet.

I will defend Perry and any good conservative against YOU misfits, malcontents and smear merchants on this forum who engage in innuendo and use Democrat talking points to attack and trash. Even with Perry's less than ideal immigration position, he remains a solid conservative who has done a good job as Texas Governor. I thank Perry for taking on the liberal Myth Romney in a head to head matchup for the GOP nomination. If the choices boil down to those two, I'll take Perry.

No doubt about it. Perry's debate performance last night did suck. But its unacceptable to just sit back and let Willard start picking up a head of steam, jump ahead in the polls and roll on to the nomination. The last person we need as the GOP nominee is Myth Romney.

And I did save that post where you stated a 2nd Obama term would be better than a Perry first term. Makes sense I guess, if you're a liberal or living in the twilight zone.

One of Ronald Reagan’s debates was absolutely awful. Worse than anyone last night. He admitted he was over prepped. He shook it off and came back strong. Does anyone else remember this?

If a Mexican kid has lived in TX for 3 years and has graduated from a TX high school they get in state tuition. It doesn't cost us because they are paying the same as all other kids. Some of them have been here most of their lives...and didn't get here on their own.

I have a bigger problem with the welfare benefits their parents might be getting.

The kids didn't come here to get in state tuition. That's ridiculous to even suggest...and is not an enticement...benefits are.

What's the differnce between a free public education which is mandated by federal law...and paying instate tuition to further their education? They're paying...instate tuition.

BTW, I hate illegal immigration!

He did not say he supported open borders. If you can find where he said it, then please link it up.

Sorry, no hero, no bot either. Haven't endorsed anyone, yet.

lol! You’re confused.

You’ve spent weeks if not months defending RINO Mitt Perry. For you to say you haven't endorsed him is cowardly. It’s also about as fallacious as me saying I support him even though I have spent weeks posting negative things about him and his liberal record. It just doesn’t pass the laugh test.

Perry is not a conservative. Conservatives don't support ILLEGAL aliens. Conservatives don't label as 'heartless' real conservatives who disagree with their pandering to the ILLEGAL aliens. Conservatives don't use political power to force parents to tell the government they do not want an unproven and unnecessary vaccine in their young daughters’ veins. Conservatives don't support superhighways through America that would benefit Mexico but harm America. I could go on but I've seen your denials before so what’s the point.

Perry is a loser. I said his popularity would wane once his liberal record made the light of day and it has. You’re free to continue defending him all you please but at least be honest about it. You support him despite the fact that he is not conservative. You can continue to deny it but your posting history proves you do.

Perry's comments in two debates makes it clear that if we, as United States citizens, do not agree with his pandering, we are racists. Perry has spent most of his political career pandering to ILLEGAL aliens...... handing out govt freebies, enticing hordes of them them over the border, looking away as the savage Zetas cartels setup drug operations in Dallas, etc, etc, etc.

Keep in mind, a rank political opportunist like Perry does not lift his little finger unless he gets a payoff.

So for Perry to blithely thumb his nose at his own country and its citizens........?????

So it really ticks me off to see illegal aliens coming across the border in Texas so they can put their own kids through school at no expense to them

That is downright false.

They PAY the same rates as any resident of Texas. Nothing is free. Try again.
