Is screening the canal not feasible? So as to catch every single carp that tries to swim up that way?

Considering farm raised talapia is fed by the poop of farm raised striped bass - I guess anything can make it to the table.... I haven't eaten a bite of Tilapia since I saw that episode of Dirty Jobs. Bleecchh!

"healthy, ready-to-serve meals" for the needy How about adding them to school lunch programs nationwide? What better way to get rid of this nuisance fish than by using school children all over the country to transfer them from lunch trays in to trash cans?

In some restaurants and groceries you can get wild tilapia - very good and without the bleeechh! Just stay away from the, ahem, “farm raised” type.
But you have the right idea, I quit eating the farm raised after that same episode. That was TMI for sure.

They can't be commercially sold in any kind of amount due to the supposed mercury contamination. People should really be asking themselves why Illinois has so much control over the great lakes these days despite having a minimal stake in them.
Obama has stepped into the middle of the court fight between illinois and 5 other states along with Canada. He's appointed two czars and done all he can to help his Chicago buds.
There are Japanese companies that lead fishing tours here for Steelhead fishing at the Tippi Dam on the Manistee river.

Pay some fishermen to fish the dickens out of the carp. Kids don’t like fish patties all that well, but they’ll gladly eat fish sticks. It would also be lower in mercury than most wild fish, so healthier.

If you fry it till its blackened and then dump enough Tabasco sauce on it, you'll find some Cajuns somewhere to eat it when they're hungry enough.
Asian Carp are not good game fish and more especially, they are not good eating. The fish are bottom dwellers and they are oily and smelly. No chef, no matter where he hails from, can change those facts.

That's what they say. Strict low limits have been placed on the sale of great lakes fish because of it. Personally I'm not so sure. Fishing guides have been eating great lakes fish nearly daily for years with no appreciable rise in mercury levels in their bodies.
