... We were talking about religions in Germany. I said, Im a Christian. I think being a homosexual is wrong, he said. It wasnt directed to anyone except my friend who was sitting behind me. I guess [the teacher] heard me. He started yelling. He told me he was going to write me an infraction and send me to the office.

You’re out of your mind. So wintertime, trisham and I must under coercion take 15 to 20 of your students, or we have no right to say anything.
I have home schooled not only my own children but helped home school many others. I taught kids to read using my own invented materials very quickly and children enjoyed learning when I taught them. But I’m sure that all means nothing to you. Oh, and when my kids did wing up going to public school for a year when I coudlnt’ teach them at home, they both entered the “gifted and talented” track or whatever it’s called because they were so far ahead of their grade. One was in the 95% of everything, the other was in the 95% of everything other than math.
The principal told me they’d likely have to be moved to a lower grade when I first enrolled them, since I was a high school dropout and did not use any regular cirriculum while home schooling. He was shocked beyond belief when he saw how academcally advanced they were.
Sounds to me as though you’re eaten up with something.
Ahem - for a teacher you seem to fail the "context" issue. Wintertime obviously means in connection with education.
Not snarking at all. If you have a better idea I will contribute to your campagin and go door to door for you.
I choose to work from within the system.
Eaten up NO just sick and tied of Wintertime and her ilks whining and doing nothing to improve it. She used the public schools for her own selfish wants and then has the gall to tell me to quit my job and others how to raise their kds when she can't convince her own children to do it.
Yeah cover for her that is good. This is just one example of her going off the deep end and then trying to say what she "really meant". Keep enabling her, that way she won't get the medical she really needs.
Once I home schooled a ten or eleven year old girl who had had some public schooling and some home schooling. Her mother couldnt’ handle her and there were family “issues”. I took care of her at my home for about 3 or 4 months. She was way, way behind her age level in everything, could not sit still, could not concentrate, hated any schoolwork, etc. Her handwriting was atrocious. It was a challenge but I loved that child.
So, I worked out a plan (plus I HAD to use the stupid workbooks provided, which made it more difficult). She was allowed to do 20 minutes of schooling, and then 5 or 10 minutes outside to play with the cats or whatever she wanted. We worked on her handwriting very carefully. She received no punishments. We did some other things as well.
After a few weeks, her handwriting was gazillion times better, and she started begging to do more than 20 minutes so she could “finish” things that used to take her days to finish. I wouldn’t let her do school longer until a month or so, then she was allowed 25 minutes of schoolwork and 10 minutes active play.
Each child is different.
Unfortunately when she went back home the previous agenda was followed which was extremely counter productive. But at least she had those months with me, and now as a late teenager, she attends a wonderful private school far away from home and loves every minute of it!
So you choose to work within the system. Why do people that have differing views than yourself terrify and anger you so much? None of us are telling you that you should quit teaching tomorrow.
Yeah cover for her that is good. This is just one example of her going off the deep end and then trying to say what she "really meant". Keep enabling her, that way she won't get the medical she really needs.
And that comment above shows a total lack of class, politeness, respect and perhaps sobriety.
Awesome story!

WOW, talk about jumping the shark.
A) Like I said go back and read some of the things said to me and about Public high school teachers in general on this thread alone and you will be commending me for my restraint, if you are honest that is.
B) I give the exact same amount of respect that I am my profession receive.
C) I restrict myself to a sip of the Precious Blood a Mass on the weekends due to a medical condition.
I think you misread the article. It was the assistant principal, not the the principal, who suspended the kid. So then, it was the action of the head principal in reversing the other guy’s act of suspension that I was praising.
I think that that you are correct. My apologies. Thank you for the enlightenment.
If you want to organize a group of people to school your children, and finance it with your own money, go for it. The citizens of this country are under no obligation to pay to educate your children.
This is a starwman. No one here is calling for the the **immediate** shut down of all government schooling on Monday. The vast majority of conservatives recognize that vouchers, tax credits, charters, and gradually charging increasing amounts of tuition at government schooling are policies that would lead to building a private infrastructure. The goal though should be complete shut down of all government schooling and complete separation of school and state. Personally, I think a transition of 15 to 20 would be sufficient time.
But...Let's say the godless and socialist-funded government schools did close on Monday. What would happen?
There would be chaos for about two weeks, but then private organizations would rally. Larger businesses would open schools on site for the children of their workers. Churches would open low tuition or even completely volunteer run schools. Kinder Care and day care centers of this type would hire teachers and add 1st through 8th grade. Former teachers would open "day care" in their homes but they would really be one-room-schools or mini-schools.
There is one exception: By Wednesday, Mormons would have tuition-free schools staffed by highly motivated, highly competent, and well educated volunteers.
How about you take the offer I have made to wintertime, and that she has refused time after time. I will give you a list of about 15-20 students at my school and you take them for 1 year and prove to me how good your theories are
Have you ever looked at the New York Times section that advertises for summer camps? The **private** market fills every possible need for every type of child imaginable: Diabetic, retarded, cerebral palsy, amputees, cancer victims, delinquents, drug addicts, ADD and ADHD. And there are camps for every possible interest: French camps, tennis, soccer, theater, art, sports camps of every kind.
From your statement it appears that you do not want these difficult children and would like to dump them on me.
In a private system of schooling there really would be teachers who would **love** these children, **welcome** these children, have a **talent* for working with these children. It appears than in your school they are seen as a troublesome burden. Hopefully, the teachers in your can restrain their dislike for these children, because if their contempt and dislike bleed through, it would be CHILD ABUSE to emotionally mistreat them in any way.
It is my response to her suggestion that government schools be closed on Monday, and that you or I should take 15 to 20 of her most difficult students.
I haven’t read every comment on the thread. I can only speak then for my own comments in regards to people telling you to quit; I didn’t say that.
You need some anger management or something.
Wintertime - Very Well Said! (clapping emoticon!!!)
