Rick Perry scrambled for cash in upper Manhattan at what was supposed to be a quiet fundraiser with Hispanic businessmen - and instead turned into a local New York City political circus, replete with a gatecrashing appearance by Rep. Charles Rangel.
The event, which was coordinated by local Hispanic activists and New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers head Fernando Mateo, was half fundraiser and half meet-and-greet at a restaurant in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Continue Reading
Perry's people had expected the event to stay off record, including from any publicity. But instead, a media throng awaited Perry as he dodged into the restaurant to the waiting group at Papasito Mexican Grill of a couple dozen businessmen - and Rangel, who had waltzed in earlier.
"I wanted to make him feel comfortable," Rangel told reporters about his visit to an enemy camp event, which was held in his district.
"He's a statesman and we won't turn anyone away," said Mateo of Rangel, though he at least appeared less than pleased to see the congressman.
Rangel stayed for several minutes, telling reporters on his way out that he had shown up to make Perry feel more comfortable
"I would not want to embarrass him here," Rangel said, adding his opinion of Perry: "Hes tall and hes from Texas."
Mateo, however, was thrilled to see Perry, calling him "the medicine this country needs (right) now."

Rangel....fat and a tax cheat
Keeping it classy... /s
...Were humbled to have him here listening to the needs of small businesses, said Fernando Mateo, the head of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. A longtime Republican fund-raiser, Mr. Mateo said Mr. Perrys campaign contacted him to set up the hourlong event........
Charlie Rangel did show up, Mr. Mateo said of the Democrat who represents the area in the House. Hes a statesman in New York, and we were always taught by our parents to respect the elder.
Mr. Mateo said that Mr. Rangel did not stay for Mr. Perrys speech, but that he did welcome the Texan to the district.

March 2011 - “Harlem Is Losing a Piece of Clinton”
“When Bill Clinton officially began his post-presidency in Harlem in 2001, he was greeted with open arms thousands of them. At a plaza near his new office, at 55 West 125th Street, a crowd of 2,000 residents and civic leaders gathered on a hot July afternoon to celebrate the arrival of a neighbor whose presence, two blocks from the landmark Apollo Theater, seemed to put a presidential stamp of approval on the neighborhoods revival...............”

I read that "manure" thread -- had to laugh about the "wine bar" quote. Poor Ellicott City businesses!
You mean the Reagan who signed many gun control laws and the the Simpaon/Mazoli illegal alien amnesty?
.
Still bashing Reagan with the Perrybot talking points.
Good morning fieldmarshaldj.
When you're being censored by your colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives (under Speaker Nancy Pelosi no less) what's a politician to do????
He hands out turkeys to his constituents.
"Im putting today in front of me, Mr. Rangel told reporters curbside at 128th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, as dozens of bundled-up and mostly elderly women the lucky holders of about 120 tickets that were given out by several community groups waited inside for the congressman to start loading their grocery carts."

I hope they vote him out and get a REAL representative in that seat!
Nope. Still telling the truth. Reagan was closer to Huntsman than anybody else in the GOP race today. This indicates great progress in conservatism. Just look at what RR did, not what he said. Reagan was conservative in the 1980s; he was not conservative as we see it now. You can get as angry as you want, but the truth is Reagan did sign an amnesty for illegals, gun control laws and tax increases. That is the truth. Instead of dogging me out, why don’t you just show me where I am making suff up if I am so wrong? Show me where I am incorrect. The simple answer is that you can’t. The cold, hard truth is that Perry is more conservatice than Reagan was. How many gun control laws has Perry signed? Illegal alien amnesties? I think it is zero for Perry, but I may be wrong. Why don’t you point my errors out and educate me?
Theres been much griping about the ex-presidents lavish taste in office space (though certainly not by us). The move, according to CB Richard Ellis Roshan Shah, who represented the tenant along with Keith Caggiano, was about the nonprofits desire to control costs. That was probably the biggest factor, Mr. Shah said.
Asking rents for both the Harlem and Goldman Sachs FiDi spaces were both $40 a square foot, but the tenant was able to negotiate a lower rent downtown. Mr. Shah declined to say how much the foundation will pay because the deal is expected to close in three weeks. He did note that the sublandlord, Goldman Sachs, is going to build out the space.
The move will also allow the foundation to expand from 18,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet, while occupying a single floor instead of potentially being spread out over five. With every crisis that occurs in the world, when something happens in Haiti, for example, they need more staff, Mr. Shah noted. Theyve grown tremendously in terms of size.
Mr. Clinton will maintain a small office in the 8,000-square-foot space. But, after all, he can spread some of that love around. Hes had a very active role with Obama in some of the economic reform, Mr. Shah said, and it sends a positive message that hes going downtown. [end] Source
Truly, who can argue with this ? I mean, after all, Reagan's radical left wing agenda and his being made Jimmy Carter's Ambassador to China... All the right-wingers denouncing him in 1980 and coalescing around that Conservative paragon John Anderson. Yup, you are so right !
Ronald Reagan was and Rick Perry is a conservative.
The reason? Love of country and making it strong, successful, united and safe.
This arguing is not productive and in fact harmful.
Strangely enough, Rangel really wasn’t bad when he got his start in politics. I remember him when. But he’s a product of the black Dem machine, so his later evolution wasn’t that surprising.
