Link only to RCP - cannot link to USA Today. This poll was conducted after the last debate. Last poll by USA Today/Gallup in early August (before Perry announced) showed Romney 24, Perry 17, Bachmann 13. A Gallup-only pull in mid-August, after Perry announced, showed Perry 29, Romney 17 and Bachmann 10. So it looks like Perry has continued to gain support, but Romney is also picking up support since late August, which has narrowed the gap. The RCP average shows the Perry lead down to 8.6%, which is a drop of about 3 points. So it does appear that the debate hurt him some, but it does not appear that Bachmann or Santorum benefited - it looks like Romney did.

Perry ping
Hmmm, so ROmney or Perry? I choose Perry. It will be interesting to see which third party candidate the trolls support.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
I think we'll see Perry stay strong in the last hour of the next debate. He did just fine until the last hour when he started crashing, his recent back surgery hasn't helped all that much.
It's much worse than merely irresponsible. And it should immediately DISqualify him for POTUS.
not the best timing for that cartoon...
In the short run, maybe it helped Romney but when one picks between the two, Perry and Romney, most of the support from the other candidates will go to Perry.
The only one who knows how to fly an Air Force plane is Rick Perry!
Does not appear that Cain got any of Bachmann’s ex support - interesting since he definitely lost some to her when she was on that roll a few weeks back. Looks like Perry and Romney picked most of it up.
Most people will come around. There will be a few deadenders who will be determined to waste their vote on some 3rd party schlub who has no chance to win, but for the most part beating Obama will carry the day for the vast majority of folks.
The one issue will be how the Palin die hards react when she announces she is not running for President. There is a chance she will continue teasing it out some more by announcing that she isn't running for "the Republican nomination for President in 2012". This would make some of them believe she might run an indie campaign and leave them on the sidelines for many more months.
At the end of the day though, I think most Republicans, conservatives and Tea Party folks want to kick Hussein's carcass out of the White House bad enough to vote for whomever the GOP nominates. My guess is the nominee is likely to be Perry, and I'd bet were are going to see a Perry/Rubio ticket.
FR has turned into a bastion of medocracy. Its been overrun with moderate and liberal republicans.
At the end of the day if true conservatives vote for either of these chumps hope is lost for this country.
It also would be quite tiring to anyone if all questions are designed for everyone on the stage to attack you. He had to spend most of his time on the defensive answering the same questions over and over.
I hope he learns how to turn all the attacks on him this week into an attack on Obama and not spend the entire time on defense.
Bret Baier will be the moderator this Thursday just maybe he’ll not set up the questions to attack Perry. It was as unfair as h*ll and those not seeing it are plain stupid. Let us hope Bret proves to be a good fair moderator.
I love how all you rino supporters defend the indefensible.
Funny,
You can just go right along and keep making excuses for someone who can,t debate well.
Those mean old debate moderators are so mean to Perry....wha wha...
