Two years ago, two major Republican campaigns swarmed the California GOP fall convention, confident that they could drum up the support to beat three-term incumbent Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer, who was considered vulnerable because of her low voter-approval ratings.
This year, as 1,000 GOP activists gather today in Los Angeles for their fall convention, things are different, as even the California Republican Party chairman has no idea who will take on 19-year-incumbent Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein next year - and no major candidates have stepped up.
But the landscape may change soon, analysts said, given Feinstein's recent campaign money problems and a Field Poll released today that gives one of California's most consistently popular politicians a 41 percent approval rating, the lowest of her Senate career.

Actually, Michael Reagan is considering a challenge to DiFi:
Ahahahaha! Oh brother. One day of a full campaign schedule and he’ll hang it up.
Orly Taitz to run for senate on birther platform. Down goes the kenyan!
They need a candidate named “Dorothy” who has a large pail of water.
ummmm...no.
You’re probably right. I don’t think she is defeatable in stupidland.
I’ve been reading in the papers (the LAT and WSJ) that a corrupt operative named (Durkee) squandered all of DiFi’s campaign cash. Also the latest Field Poll shows BHO’s popularity in the state plummeting. Add to the mix Michael Reagan might enter the race. It starts getting at the very least, very interesting.
If this economy does not improve within the next 12 months, we won’t be talking about red states and blue states. It will be a TOTAL BLOWOUT. If GOP candidates can win in Massachusetts and Brooklyn and Queens, they can win ANYWHERE including CA.
As with Barbara Boxhead in 2010, I speculate folks will cast ballots... but the votes have already been counted! (Not)Feinstun and BO win!
I hope you are right. With respect, I don’t think you are right wrt CA. I’d be delighted to be proven wrong. CA will have to get a lot worse before the “thinking” turns around. That’s the Dem strength: There IS no thinking. There is just “we have to vote for the people who are on our side”. As the illegal population increases and the working population drains out of state, this goes only one way. EVEN IF things were to continue on their present path of utter destruction, quite frankly I do think CA can turn around before 2016.
The Dems out here do not connect the state’s budget issues with excess spending. The deficit is a badge of honor. They think “here is where I want to be” (and with our weather, nobody could blame anyone for wanting to be out here) and “here is where I want to take back CA for Mexico”.
They will probably do it. You’ve heard of “Baja California”? Well, California itself will probably turn into Mexico del Norte”.
Tom Campbell could win one of the Senatorial posts, but he isn't pure enough for some. He isn't what you would call a great campaigner/speaker, but man he knows numbers, economics and Reaganomics.
Based on what? Tom Campbell was my rep for years, and he is a terrible candidate. He is also liberal enough that when he was in Congress, he was always endorsed by the teachers union.
DiFi is probably seen as “too conservative” in CA; hence her “weakness”. No GOP challenger need waste his or her time or money on this.
If that Taitz loon won the GOP nomination she'd lose to Feinstein by 50 points. Fortunately Orly won't be our candidate.
Isn’t she one of the evil wealthy dems that funneled funds to her husband’s business and never got in trouble for it?
So does Michael Reagan, carrier and defender of his father’s legacy.
