For many liberal pundits, the blame for the circus that will unfold this week at the UN with the start of a debate over Palestinian statehood is to be assigned to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu whom they wrongly claim has obstructed peace talks. Others are inclined, with more justice, to put the onus for the problem on Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas whose pursuit of UN recognition of statehood without first making peace with Israel is seen as both futile and counter-productive to the end that he claims to seek.
But the lion's share of the blame ought to fall on President Obama. [exceprt]

Will we be around in 2012?
I’m convinced that the US will NOT veto this in the Security Council. It will be payback for NY-09.
I agree. Obama doesn’t want to be remembered by the world as the US president who vetoed Palestinian statehood.
This is what happened when a child was raised as ‘extra special’ without having to EARN anything with his own effort. Almost everything is hand picked and handed to him.
You’d think for a smart guy like Obama, after the failed Chicago Olympics bid, he would have learned the world did/does not revolve around what he said/says.
“(Liberal) Chicken coming home to roost”, indeed.
I can’t believe that Dumbo still does well in some polls. This country is infested with liberal idiots.
President Obama’s own words on Palestinian statehood are being used in a new radio ad airing in the Middle East even as the State Department announced Thursday that the U.S. would veto any bid for recognition in the United Nations of a new Palestine.
Thursday’s announcement that the U.S. will veto an effort in the U.N. Security Council to give Palestinians their own country comes after Reuters reported that a new ad produced for the Palestinian Authority references remarks the president made in 2010 before the U.N. General Assembly.
At the time, Obama said: “When we come back here next year, we can have an agreement that can lead to a new member of the United Nations, an independent, sovereign state of Palestine living in peace with Israel.”
In the ad, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas says, “He must have meant it.”
Good question...and one that keeps my up at night.
Obama will likely let the State Department promise a veto right up until the eleventh hour, then he will reverse that, saying he did his best for peace, but has to do the right thing, etc. Hillary’s going to lose some face, but that’s what she’s there for.
I’d agree 100% with your comment, but for one thing: you call Obama a “smart guy.” I’m still searching for the slightest bit of evidence that his IQ exceeds room temperature in Antarctica. Affirmative action pushed Dumbo far beyond whatever native abilities he might have...and a slick media sales job carried him into the end zone.
Instead of a veto, he votes ‘Present’.
If a veto is needed, the US will cast it. I say that with 100% certainty. Right now, US diplomatic efforts are focussed on getting enough votes in the Security Council so they won’t have to cast a veto. Or we must convince the Palestinians not to pursue it, presumably thru some major concession.
There is a certain ‘sophistry’, if you will, on display. And to ‘survive’ the Chicago style politicking (even with sponsors), you have to have some ‘smarts’. That doesn’t mean the guy is a smart guy.
The act is very superficial, and won’t survive even a little scrutiny. Lucky for you and me, the guy is also extremely self-absorbed and extra lazy (why should he work to earn anything? everything has been handed to him.)
Like you said, without the wholesale libs/media support, he’s lucky he can hold any ‘real world’ job.
That’s also what happens when we allow a non-American to run for president.
Well, we know who brought the bedbugs to the UN building, don’t we? So anyone who are our friends....watch out for the bedbugs!!!!!
Well, it's infested with idiots. Some are liberals. Some are "independents" who only wake up from their snooze when it's time to vote. I think a lot of them don't know who they are going to vote for until a week or two before the election.
They don't know what they believe or why.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

I would be surprised if the US does NOT veto it. Not because of NY-09, (indeed, if that were the calculus they’d be afraid of losing every other Jewish democrat seat!) but because they have already made way too many policy blunders wrt this issue.
The mistake Obama made, and Netanyahu made his case very clear for days in advance so Obama could not pretend he didn’t know better, was way back when Obama said Israel should have to freeze building in Jerusalem. This had never, ever been a precondition to negotiate.
Once Obama said Israel should freeze settlements in Jerusalem, the Palestinians would NEVER let that go. Why would they? Israel built in Jerusalem and the Palestinians “negotiated” for 15 years. Once they got the USA to amend the Oslo accords in their favor, Obama became more Palestinian than the Palestinians. He gave them something they never asked for and was never an issue for 15 years. From then on they insisted that all settlements had to freeze before they could negotiate, which of course Netanyahu could not agree to permanently (though he did freeze them for 10 months waiting for the PA to negotiate).
Because of Obama’s blunder, the Palestinians decided they never have to negotiate with Israel, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain waiting for the USA and others to pressure Israel to give them what they want without anything in return. And more and more Obama appeased the Arabs, so more and more the Palestinians realized they don’t have to do anything. The Saudis told them Obama was a pussycat and they saw Obama had his hands full with Iraq and Afghanistan too. So the Pals realized since much of the world already wanted Israel to pull back and give up Jerusalem, and the USA now was not longer an ally of Israel, they could just threaten and demand things. Even Obama wanted to take it back he could not. They have been playing Obama like a fool. Which he has been.
Another reason the PA is doing this now, is because they are a little bit afraid. The PA rulers are old. They want to establish their state, because they fear Hamas, they fear a popular uprising, and they know if there is an uprising Obama won’t support them individually any more than he did our ally Mubarak. Even if Obama hates Israel and wants a Pal state doesn’t mean he will defend the PA rulers. So they want to cement their gravy train now, before they get too old and before the next 2 generations oust them. These PA guys are the PLO - from the 1960s. They are all in their 80’s. They have to do it now from their perspective, for their kids and grandkids to cement their share of the loot, the contracts, etc in the future. But what they are going to get, even if they got a “state” vote this week, isn’t much of a state. It is still separate from Gaza and the refugees are still in camps.
Of course there are those who think Obama hates Israel and is doing all this to pretend he looks inept when in fact he is doing it on purpose. It does make you wonder. Either way though this whole thing stems from that one mistake. And it is a giant mistake. To make amends, the UN security council could vote on something like “All Palestinian refugees are to be resettled in the state of Palestine” which I doubt would pass but would at least help make Israel feel less isolated. As for Jerusalem, I don’t know what the language of the vote will say, but Jerusalem has not been a Palestinian capital ever before, not even over the last 20 years, I don’t know how or why the UN could conceive of giving it to them now, totally out of the blue. But of course as the old saying goes, if Algeria proposed a vote that the world was flat and Israel flattened it, the UN would vote 120-24 with 42 abstentions.
